YOUTH PROGRAMS We believe the values and skills learned early on are vital building blocks for life. At the Greater Holyoke YMCA, children and teens learn values and positive behaviors while exploring their unique talents and interests. Kids realize their potential in our programs; that makes for confident kids today and engaged adults tomorrow!

PIKE/EEL—Ages 3–5 This is a beginner-level program as well as a class for those who have some swimming skills but still need the aid of a bubble. All children will be taught pool rules, breath control (bubbles, bobs), and experience swimming and floating on both their front and back.

PIKE & PARENT—Ages 3–5 Many children are ready for the structure of a Pike class but feel more secure in the company of their favorite grown-up! Using the same format as our Pike lesson, adults participate with children, assist instructor and have fun.

EEL—Ages 3-5 This class is for preschoolers who are able to swim a double bubble the length of the pool without assistance. They must also be comfortable with going underwater all the way. This lesson will work on building endurance on their front with their face in the water and swimming on their back.

YOUTH SWIMMING The sooner the safer! YMCA swim lessons teach safety and responsibility around the water. Participants gain confidence and self-esteem as they work to become better, safer swimmers. Swim lessons are available for all ages and abilities. If you are uncertain which level is appropriate, please contact us to schedule a swim test prior to registration.

PRESCHOOL SWIM LESSONS WATER BABIES—Ages 6–35 months Water Babies will focus on developing the comfort level of the young swimmer. Instructional advice will be shared with parents to assist in their child’s swim experience. Parents are encouraged to ask questions and share with each other as we splash and have fun swimming!

STARFISH—Ages 3–5 Starfish is for those preschoolers who are swimming at least 15 feet without a flotation aid and are also comfortable being on their back and going underwater. Swimmers will learn more indepth skills, such as rotary breathing and backstroke.
