Holy Family Community, Holy Family High School first opened its doors 100 years ago in 1922. Since that time, over 6,000 students have passed through our halls and contributed to the great tradition of our school community. The people in the building change, the building itself has changed, but our mission remains consistent – Holy Family offers a Catholic learning environment that stresses academic excellence, fosters mutual respect, demands responsibility and encourages self-growth. Seven years ago, we implemented the Vision 100 strategy document and the Campus Master Plan process. Today we see the fruits of that work. We have expanded our curricular and extra-curricular offerings and revised our math curriculum and added several STEM electives. Our Chapel was remodeled, a turf sports field was installed, our music department added three new rooms, a new gymnasium was built along with a new fitness center, and we expanded our counseling center and added additional school and college counselors. Our look ahead builds upon those successes. We are a very good school today, but true institutional greatness comes from a willingness to constantly transform yourself. In 2019 we retained the Boston-based Catholic educational consulting firm Partners in Mission to assist us with creating Vision 2020 - a strategic plan for Holy Family High School that will guide us into our second century.

While the pandemic paused some of our efforts, the Holy Family Board of Trustees and the Vision 2020 Steering Committee have worked passionately on this strategy. They drew on the perspectives of alumni, parents, faculty, administrators, and staff to articulate goals, objectives and action steps. The Vision 2020 strategic plan captures the key components of both processes and provides a blueprint for areas of emphasis in the coming five years. Matt Hauptly Principal, Holy Family High School Alex Ariniello Chair, Holy Family High School Board of Trustees Co-Chair, Vision 2020 Committee Jody Giacomini Co-Chair, Vision 2020 Committee

The Vision 2020 Strategic Plan indicates several directions of growth while giving strong emphasis on the investment in people. While this plan was developed during a pandemic that presented challenges like none other in the school’s history, what emerged speaks clearly to fact that physical changes to a building are not as vital as the quality of people who work within its walls. What is most visible is not always what is most vital.

With the oversight of Partners in Mission, we have chosen to focus on seven areas that will have transformational impact on our students and the overall Holy Family High School experience. This plan will be our roadmap for the next five years and has strategic focus in seven areas:

Academics

Enrollment Management

Advancement

& Marketing

Catholic Identity & Student Life

Finance

Facilities

Governance

Academics STRATEGIC GOAL Holy Family will attract, develop, and retain educators who embody the Catholic worldview and demonstrate mastery of content knowledge, the ability to communicate content in a meaningful and engaging way, and build relationships with students and recognize the unique gifts each brings.

Objectives Attract and retain top Catholic school educators through strategic recruiting channels with competitive compensation structures. Develop a growth-centered evaluation system including onboarding and support through professional development opportunities.

We Will • Perform salary analysis of Holy Family’s compensation structure as compared to surrounding school districts. • Bring all faculty to 85% of the average compensation level of the four surrounding school districts by the 2022-23 school year and to 90% by the 2023-24 school year. • Explore the addition of a merit-based component to Holy Family’s pay scale to complement our purely seniority-based system. • Identify funding sources (Tuition, Fund for Holy Family, Endowments, etc.) to make salary growth targets feasible and sustainable. • Analyze the impact that compensation increases will have on tuition increases. • Develop an administrative liaison program where faculty are assigned an individual administrator as their point of contact for questions/concerns. • Develop an onboarding process that leverages department chairs, instructional coaches, and the administration to bring new faculty and staff into alignment with the school mission and culture. • Consider the addition of an administrator to oversee curriculum, instruction, educational technology, onboarding, and professional development. • Develop an evaluation tool that can be used to give faculty quick insight into how they are progressing in terms of their teaching and their alignment to mission and professional norms. • Develop a rubric that provides faculty a thorough understanding of Holy Family’s norms of positivity, professionalism, and problem-solving. • Conduct bi-annual faculty climate surveys to understand and respond to teachers’ needs and concerns.

STRATEGIC GOAL Centered in the Catholic tradition of excellence, Holy Family will sustain an academically rigorous, differentiated, and comprehensive set of course offerings to support and challenge a wide range of diverse learners, which develops their skills and ensures the highest level of preparedness for their future.

Objectives Develop and implement courses that meet the needs and interests of a broad range of students (variety of future careers, financial literacy, fundamentals of math, and life preparedness skills). Support students who are identified as those who may struggle academically or otherwise. Implement consistent onboarding strategies for students that will enable them to successfully navigate the Holy Family curriculum.

We Will • Work with faculty, guided studies, counseling, and administration to define and develop metrics for identifying struggling students. • Start dialogue with schools of excellence locally and nationally to get a sense of how they identify and support students who struggle academically. • Survey students, parents, and faculty to gather their input regarding future course additions. • Compare Holy Family’s curricular and academic extracurricular offerings to the comparable public, private, and Catholic schools in the state and region. • Explore additional offerings that will meet the needs of students who come to Holy Family at a deficit in Math. • Incorporate the feedback of department chairs into the master schedule to reduce scheduling conflicts.

Catholic Identity/Student Life STRATEGIC GOAL Foster personal, individual relationships with Jesus Christ by creating and enhancing a safe, sacred place to live, learn and grow in faith. Ensure each student experiences love, community and support to develop as a whole person and understand their dignity as a human being and child of God, capable and confident to express and live their faith.

Objectives Develop an environment that enables students to grow in their personal faith. Encourage a deeper sacramental life by increasing awareness, relevance, and availability of the Sacraments providing opportunities for students to express faith and live the mission. Strengthen and expand student-led initiatives to address issues of individual dignity, inclusion, and belonging. Build community and maintain the small school community feeling by fostering stronger faculty and student relationships. Create a system or enhance the capability to identify and support students struggling with social and/or mental health issues.

We Will • Work to improve the promotion of Catholic culture on campus by improving the Catholic aesthetics of key spaces of community on the Holy Family campus. • Work with the Archdiocese of Denver and the Leadership Council of the Unity in Diversity group to expand the reach of the group as well as the scope of the activities it undertakes. • Engage in dialogue with schools locally and nationally that use the house system, the advisee system, prayer-partners, etc., to determine which system might best help Holy Family ensure that each student has a teacher they have a close relationship with and a peer support group that spans across all grades and social groups. • Coordinate stronger communications between admissions, counseling, guided studies, and teaching faculty to ensure that we are proactively addressing student mental health concerns.

Enrollment Management/ Marketing STRATEGIC GOAL Through its optimal enrollment and retention of students, Holy Family will build an inclusive community based on its Catholic identity.

Objectives

Develop affordable and sustainable student recruitment and marketing plan with a cohesive, unified message. Explore new populations to focus enrollment efforts as an outreach to non-traditional Holy Family communities. Establish consistency in branding of Holy Family logo, colors, across all initiatives.

We Will • Develop a freshman FAQ that helps new parents adjust to the norms and expectations of the Holy Family community. • Update branding guide and take steps to ensure that all faculty, staff, administration, coaches, and team ambassadors are aware of it and understand its importance. • Conduct branding audits to ensure compliance with current branding standards. • Effectively communicate the strong Financial Aid program and our commitment to enrolling qualified candidates from all socioeconomic backgrounds, ensuring that when tuition increases occur, Holy Family remains accessible. • Audit website to ensure that information is up to date, branding and imagery are consistent, and that the browser experience is consistent with that of our benchmark schools.

Advancement STRATEGIC GOAL Develop diverse and sustainable funding sources to ensure that Holy Family provides a high-quality, accessible Catholic learning experience for another century.

Objectives Expand event and non-event fundraising opportunities by evaluating best practices from other successful Catholic or Independent schools.

We Will • Audit the effectiveness of each advancement initiative (event and non-event) to ensure a proper return for the time and staff commitment. Make necessary adjustments based on this review. • Continue to grow Alumni Weekend events to further engage alumni involvement with the school. • Audit school software systems to ensure that all systems used by admissions, advancement, alumni, athletics, academics, business office, etc., communicate effectively to accumulate data necessary to make timely and appropriate asks of alumni, current parents, and past parents. • Enhance strategy and tactics to grow the return on the annual appeal.

Facilities STRATEGIC GOAL Taking into consideration the Master Plan, continue to invest in facilities and technology to accomplish the school’s mission and address the ongoing growth and needs of the school through the promotion of technological innovation and campus-wide infrastructure.

Objectives

Update and continue the implementation of the Master Plan to enhance aesthetics and create additional functional space. Support the Performing Arts with upgrades to the current facilities. Develop a plan that will lead to a new Performing Arts facility. Support and address facility needs to promote the growth of STEM and technology initiatives.

We Will • Evaluate how well campus and grounds serve current and potential future curricular programs, extracurricular programs, and administrative needs. • List, estimate the cost of and prioritize all major capital projects. • Evaluate options to improve, expand, or add on to the current Performing Arts facility. • Evaluate the best model for offering tech support for current and future programming. • Ascertain how the facility needs to be upgraded to offer richer STEM offerings as well as more access to those offerings.

Finance STRATEGIC GOAL Maintain and enhance solid fiscal operations while exploring transformational opportunities to ensure the ongoing vitality of the school.

Objectives

Advance the school mission by establishing and supporting an effective long-range tuition model and faculty compensation model. Grow the current endowment to meet the financial needs of a diverse population and retain faculty. Partner with Advancement to identify and expand revenue sources to keep tuition affordable and meet the demands of our growing Catholic community.

We Will • Gather Board of Members, Board of Trustees, and administrative team to discuss and come to a decision on goals for enrollment, compensation, and capital projects over a 10-year horizon. • Educate the donor population on the importance of a strong endowment. • Fundraise strategically to grow the endowment to 7-10 million by 2027. • Work to ensure that tuition increases are offset by other revenue sources to keep Holy Family accessible. • Work with the Archdiocese to develop long-range policies for: • Catholic/non-Catholic tuition differentials • Funding of Archdiocese staff-student discounts • Funding of other financial aid

Governance STRATEGIC GOAL Establish the optimal governance model to advance the mission, vision, and strategic plan.

Objectives

Assess the current and optimal governance structure to meet the strategic planning initiatives. Assess the current operating structure for an optimal day-to-day operations management. Integrate best practices that promote diversity, innovation, and transparency for all governance and operational structures.

We Will • Create and publicize an updated org chart and job descriptions that reflect current roles as well as future positions that may be added as finances allow. • Study President/Principal model. Assess the track record of the model in at least three other Catholic high schools. • Educate stakeholders how the new org structure will change day-to-day operations. • Seek to attract candidates from more diverse backgrounds to make the faculty more representative of the student body. • Conduct bi-annual faculty climate surveys to anticipate and address faculty concerns.
