the butterfly effect fall semester edition
WHAT IS THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT? The butterfly effect is the theory that if a butterfly flaps its wing in South Africa, it can generate a big enough air current to cause a tornado in North America. I decided to name the Governor’s newsletter ‘the butterfly effect’ to serve as a reminder that we can make HUGE impact with our actions, no matter how small they may seem. The purpose of this publication is to inspire and educate the members of the New York District of Circle K International who wish to make a difference in their communities. Additionally, this publication will serve to recognize those who have flapped their wings and made an impact on our world.

INTRODUCTION Hello Mighty New York District! My name is Renee Girard and I am your District Governor for the 2014-2015 service year. As a senior at Cornell University, I have been in the Kiwanis Family for 7 years. My favorite service project is Ronald McDonald House!
I had the pleasure of meeting the now Immediate Past President of Kiwanis International, Gunter Gasser, when I represented Circle K at the New York District Kiwanis Convention! He was truly inspiring and I loved chatting with him. [pictured from left to right: New York District Kiwanis Governor, Eric Paul, Myself, and IP Kiwanis President, Gunter Gasser]

THE GOVERNOR’S PROJECT
The Governor’s Project this year is called Small Hands, Big Future. It challenges the Circle K members of the New York District to do service for children. In addition, I am asking
that fall funds raised for the Governor’s Project go to It’s My Heart, an organization that aids children with congenital heart disease and their families. My brother has congenital heart disease, so this is a cause very close to me. Additionally, I hope that through the Governor’s project Circle K clubs will be participate in more service with their local Kiwanis clubs since Kiwanis’ main focus is helping children. Please send all donations to: It’s My Heart Inc. 1304 Langham Creek #235 Houston, Texas 77084 Reporting: Report your funds raised on your MRF For more information visit: http://www.itsmyheart.org/
