Letter from the Editor Hello Mighty New York District, Happy holidays y’all! Wishing you all the best and cheers to a happy new year! Welcome 2015! Speaking of the new year, the end of the 2014-2015 service year is quickly approaching. What does this mean? It means a big Circle K event is in preparation! Yes! The 53rd Annual District Convention, hunger games themed! More information on DCON will be in this newsletter so keep reading. This is the second issue of Circling the Empire. Two more will come in February and around DCON (March). I wish to include farewells from the district board and to highlight our service year’s accomplishments! In this publication you will find a recap of events and important information from the district. This newsletter serves as another source of information. Past Events
K-Family Picnic We had over 60 attendees at the picnic from seven Circle K clubs, ten Key Clubs, and one Kiwanis Club. We raised a total of $374 for the Eliminate Project. Activities included prom dressing, whip/shaving cream to the face, ninja, cookie eating with the face, and avoiding the bees in the park. Thank you to everyone who came out!
Past Events
DLSSP District Large Scale Service Project This year, DLSSP was held at Kamp Kiwanis with over 80 attendees. At DLSSP, CKI clubs from across the state get together for a weekend and volunteer together at large service projects organized by the district. DLSSP is a great way for members to get a chance to meet, network, and make friends with Circle-K members from colleges and universities all around New York State. This year, despite the cold and rainy weather, CKIers came together to repaint cabins, clean the pond, organize books, and prepare the camp in any way possible for future campers.
Past Events
NY Speaking NY Speaking is the NY district’s annual fall conference. It is held at the Lakeside Georgian Resort. Each year, we bring professional and leadership development workshops to members of the district led by fellow Circle K members. Along with these workshops are fun ice breakers and games! Throughout the event, there are teams competing for points and prizes!

Governor’s Project
Small Hands, Big Future
The Governor’s Project this year is called Small Hands, Big Future. It challenges the Circle K members of the New York District to do service for children. In addition, I am asking that fall funds raised for the Governor’s Project go to It’s My Heart, an organization that aids children with congenital heart disease and their families. My brother has congenital heart disease, so this is a cause very close to me. Additionally, I hope that through the Governor’s project Circle K clubs will be participate in more service with their local Kiwanis clubs since Kiwanis’ main focus is helping children. ~ Governor Renee Girard ~ Please send all donations to: It’s My Heart Inc.
