Having led Chanel since 1983, Karl Lagerfeld was one of the most lauded fashion industry designers. In addition to designing his own line, Silvia Fendi and he worked together to design the ready-to-wear lines for Fendi and Chanel.
Lagerfeld’s aesthetic was infused with cultural and historical allusions, and he was praised for his brilliance similar to that of the Renaissance.
Lagerfeld was born in Germany and is the son of a successful businessman in Hamburg. Once his family immigrated to France, Lagerfeld began his schooling at St. Anne’s School and later completed it at Lycée Montaigne, where he prioritised art and history.
After winning the jackets category in a design contest sponsored by the International Wool Secretariat in 1955, Lagerfeld was
appointed Pierre Balmain’s assistant. After working for Balmain for three years, he moved to Jean Patou in 1958 and worked on the creation of ten haute couture collections there. After a brief spell with the Rome-based couture firm Tiziano, Lagerfeld started working as a freelancer for the French clothing brand Chloé in 1964. Each season, Lagerfeld first only created a few items, but soon he was creating the complete line. He had a brief design partnership with Curiel in 1965, and then he started working with Fendi.
Alain Wertheimer, the chairman of Chanel, requested that Karl Lagerfeld create for the brand in 1982. Everyone said, “Don’t touch it, it’s dead, it will never come back,” Lagerfeld told The New York Times. But by that point, I considered it a challenge. The fashion designer would later reinvent the house’s standards
For new generations worldwide, Lagerfeld has created cult garments using the house’s bouclé tweed, pearls, two-tone shoes, and interlocking Cs. In recent years, Lagerfeld developed Chanel’s métiers d’art, runway exhibits intended to emphasise the skill of companies like Desrues, Lessage, and Barrie Knitwear.
In 1984, the designer launched his own brand, Karl Lagerfeld, and admitted to Vogue that he had never dreamed of having his name on a storefront. ‘We’ll do it now because it’s the appropriate time, and since I came up with the name, why not utilise it?’ In 2005, Lagerfeld sold the company to the Tommy Hilfiger organisation. He continued to be its principal creative and took an active part in the creation of the designs. Together with his design skills, Lagerfeld was a talented photographer and filmmaker who frequently used images and moving pictures to bring Chanel’s history to life. He also shot and creatively directed all of Chanel’s advertising. He passed away on February 19th, 2019 in Paris. (Amed, 2019)

Generation Z is the most accepting generation. They want and fight for equality for all and this means that all brands should be inclusie to everybody, no matter who they are.
Chanel has a reputation of having a specific clientelle. This clientelle is small white women in the upper class. This is shown through the models they use. The supermoels used are all of a similar size and ethnicity. As Chanel is a luxury brand, they use models who are well known in the industry and who have a large following as a way of bringing attention and recognition to the catwalk shows and the capaigns they create. The models are also all young , which to me shows that Chanel are trying to draw in younger buyers while upholding their reputation for the older generations who have always bought from them.
Martine Rose is an inclusive brand who caters for everyone and the models they use proves this. While looking through Martine Roses’ collections, i realised that the models are not the same as one another, although they have some similarities, there is no one type of person used.
It is important that the brands show models that people can relate to. This way when people are looking through the collections, they can see how they would look in the clothes they are debating buying. This colaboration needs to be inclusive but still keep Chanel’s exclusivity. This collection also needs to speak to Chanel’s existing clientelle and be desirable to them as well as new customers.

Both brands create streetwear meaning that this collection is the perfect pieces of both brands. The have been able to create pieces which are releavent to both brands and a perfect addition to both of the brands that doesnt take away from the brand message.
The collaboration that i have created includes polo shirts, headphones , sunglases and other accessories. This is a lifestyle and fashion brand targeted towards generation Z. Chanel need to uopdate their target market in order to stay relevant. Although Chanel’s reputation proceeds them, they need to be able to maintain this for the years to come. I have chosen Andrew Aimson to model for the collaboration and to showcase rhe pieces. Andrew is an aspiring actor who studies acting at the University of Chester and dreams that one day he will be able to play The Doctor on the BBC series Doctor Who.
This is what inspired Andrew to persue his dreams of acting and moved out of Stockport where he grew up to Chester.
My target market for my collaboration is Generation Z. It is primerily aimed towards men however, anyone can buy the pieces and wear them. I think that the collaboration would also be worn by edgy members of the older generations and would hope that they would enjoy wearing the pieces in the collec-
tion.
I want this collection to bring people together.
