I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy Easter.

The Easter message is one of peace and hope. We should all give some thought to what unites us rather than what divides us and work to promote tolerance and respect in our community.

It is a very exciting time for the Academy with our new £1.6million Sports Centre opening for students after the holiday. I hope every student will get involved in the exciting opportunities which will be on offer in the new building as they strive to be the best they can be.

I hope you will all enjoy the holiday but will spare a thought for all our students taking external examinations who will be working very hard over the break with their revision. We wish them every success in their summer examinations.

Year 8 students took part in a first aid course delivered

by Heartstart. They learnt many aspects of first aid, which could one day enable them to save a life.

Art student Rebecca Westwood (10HAL) has created a sculpture based around the Mexican ‘Day of the Dead’.

Year 11 students received their e a rl y en tr y exam results Elisha Allison (11TAY) and Harrison Johal (11SPE) both gained an A* in Mathematics.

Redhill School when they attended the Dudley Community Safety Partnership’s Annual Debate Competition at Dudley Town Hall.

A group of Year 10 gifted and talented students enjoyed a visit to Oxford University. They took part in a range of interesting and varied activities.

Eight students along with a family member took part in the healthy families cooking programme which was enjoyed by all. Michael Price, Chair of Governors also visited the first session.

Year 8 students began meditation in class, as part of their work on Buddhism.

The Orchard produced its first crop of apples which were used in Scotty G’s. The FruitFull Schools Project which funded the orchard presented the Academy with a wooden plaque to display in the orchard.

This term, Scotty G’s has continued to provide food of excellent quality and variety with all of our meats and vegetables being sourced locally. Each half term we hold a themed day where we introduce foods from around the world.

Megan Paynter (8ARE) was the only person in Dudley to be chosen to attend the 23 rd World Scout Jamboree which is being held in Kirara-Hama in Japan in 2015.

During the Spring Term we supported Sport Relief. Staff dressed up and students tried their luck on a tombola. Everyone had the chance to raise money in a sponsored run. We will inform you of how much we have raised in a future edition of INsight.

We held a Holocaust Memorial Day where staff and students of Holly Hall remembered the needless deaths of the Holocaust.

Head Boy Harrison Johal (11SPE), Deputy Head Girl Shannice Oakley (11SPE) and Mr Taylor visited Dudley College for their annual Holocaust Memorial Service where they heard from Holocaust survivor Mala Tribich.

On Enrichment Day each Year 7 class were asked to design a poster to advertise the Army Cadet Force.

Students produced some fantastic work and the finalists were: Muskaan Ansar (7SSH), Cory Arrowsmith (7MSL), Amilia Moss (7MIL), Priyankaa Patel (7MIL), Prabhjot Sohal (7KSM) and Karolina Szarafiniak (7VJH). First place was given to Muskaan Ansar, in second place was Karolina Szarafiniak and Amilia Moss was third. Their designs can be seen on the Enrichment Day page.

Muskaan’s design will be emailed to the detachment where we hope it will be put in on display.

Gifted and talented students from Years 7, 8, 9 and 10 attended a talk by Hugo Clarke of the Curzon I ns t i t ut e a bo ut t he contribution made by Commonwealth soldiers to World War One. He was also joined by Ian Austin, MP for Dudley North, Afzal Amin, prospective Conservative party candidate for Dudley North, and representatives of the Academy's Governing body.

Students in Science enjoyed taking part in practical lessons to aid their learning.

Gifted students achieved 6 silver and 8 bronze awards in the UKMT Intermediate Maths Challenge. Jordan Sefton (9WES) also qualified to go through to the next round.

Year 10 Business Studies students went on a two day residential trip to the University of Wolverhampton.

They worked as a team to come up with a creative solution to a real-life business challenge.

Year 10 CoPE students recycled wooden pallets. They designed and made a range of attractive planters.

Some of the planters will be placed outside the entrance to the new Sports Centre.

Every half term, Mr Nation runs a Mathematics competition. All students are invited to enter.

Tayyab Khan (7VJH) and Adam Holloway (7SIM) were prize winners.

They both won a £10 W H Smiths voucher.

Maymunah Bashir (7KSM) gave a motivational talk to Year 11 students in an assembly. She talked of her experiences so far in Year 7 and impressed that nothing should stand in your way to succeed; she has not let her visual impairment stop her from achieving her goals.

Dudley Youth Council (DYC) came in to the Academy to advise our student led leadership programme team leaders and deputies on how to apply to be a part of the Dudley Youth Council. Pavanya Witharanage (10THO), Jacob Maybury (11YOR) and Paige Moran (9DHE) were chosen as School Community Reps for the Dudley area.

Enrichment Day activities are an important part of life at Holly Hall. Students are able to take part in a wide range of activities which enhance their curriculum.

Main contractors Deeleys worked hard to ensure that the new build would be completed on time.

17 January doors and windows were being fitted and installation of electrical and mechanical services began.

14 February facia boards were applied, adding finishing touches to the building.

14 March the plastering was almost complete and more light fittings installed and the heating was turned on.

28 March more fixtures and fittings were installed including the disabled toilet.

24 January mild weather aided progress. Plumbing and electrical work continued.

28 February over the half term break some interior lighting was installed and canopies built over exterior doors.

7 February interior work continued.

Dividing walls were erected and the false ceiling started taking shape.

7 March the boiler and intricate pipe work were installed.

21 March the brickwork was finished and the scaffolding taken down.

Lights were working and outside access to the main buildings commenced. Head Boy, Harrison Johal (11SPE) and Head Girl, Sophie Gibbons (11HMT) had a guided tour.

4 April the sports hall floor was laid and the dance studio mirrors were fitted.

8 April alarms and security cameras were up and running.

The U16 girls basketball team were given the opportunity to train at Dudley College with the College ladies team.

A group of boys from Years 7 to 10 worked with a professional choreographer to create a dance for the boys Film Dance Project. Malachi Allison (7MSL), Keaton Arthurs (7MSL), Marshall Gayle (7MSL), Marlon Gayle (7SIM), Tyreece Renford (9KEL), Billy Shillingford (10BRO) and Lonan Willis (9ALM) showcased their performance at Dudley Town Hall to hundreds of people. They received fantastic feedback with comments such as "The most mature and well behaved boys we have seen" and "A very motivational performance".

The students will be performing their dance to the Academy during assemblies.

Year 7 and Year 9 football teams entered a Futsal tournament. Both teams were fantastic competitors.

A group of students were rewarded with a trip to the England National Finals at the new Worcester Arena.

Fifteen students took part in a PGL Dance weekend at Boreatton Park in Shrewbury.

A message from Public Health England There has been an increase in scarlet fever notifications during February 2014, with 868 new cases reported compared to 591 from the same period in 2013.

Scarlet fever is caused by bacteria and is characterised by a rash. The main symptoms include a nasty sore throat and fever. The rash is a fine, raised red rash which disappears momentarily when pressed. It can be spread by close contact to the patient, though rarely through indirect contact through objects and hands. The incubation period is usually one to three days. If you suspect that someone has scarlet fever, contact their doctor who will prescribe Penicillin if scarlet fever is confirmed. This will reduce the length of the illness and the possibility of rare complications.

Babies and people with a low resistance to infection should avoid contact with patients.

People are infectious from the day the sore throat starts until 24 hours after starting antibiotics.
