A report by Year 10 student Natasha Hussain: On Thursday 22nd March, the Black Country Chamber committee members, Amman Ahmed, Molly Handley, Ezha Jahangir and myself visited Sky Academy Skills Studio in London. Upon our arrival, we were divided into two groups where individuals were given roles such as presenter, reporter, producer and director in order to create their own Sky News report about voting for young adults. Each group was placed in a different studio to shoot, edit and produce their sections of the news report.

Once completed, both recordings were edited and joined together, creating a final Sky News report. Later we were given a tour of the Sky Sports section where we saw presenter, Kirsty Gallacher and the sports team record a report. It was a great day and we are looking forward to our next trip with the Chamber to The Houses of Parliament.

Mrs Turton, AIG & Career Aspirations Advisor: A group of Year 9 students have been visiting Halesowen College on Wednesday afternoons to try out some of the courses they have on offer. Here is what some of the students said about their visits.

Ellie Jarrett: We have been going to the college every Wednesday. The taster sessions give us an insight into the courses available. My favourite so far was Graphic Design which I didn’t expect to enjoy.”

Aaron White: “I have really enjoyed visiting Halesowen College. I love all the activities we have taken part in. My favourite was Art in which we changed the cover of a magazine. It’s a fun place to be.”

Year 7 Parents’ Evening takes place on Wednesday 18th April from 4.30pm to 6.30pm. Letters explaining the online booking system have been posted home.

The Academy closes today for the Easter break.

Monday 16th April is a staff training day.

To celebrate gaining the highest number of achievement points in March, the following students are the highest performing boy and girl in their year group and are our Students of the Month for March. Congratulations to them all.

YEAR 7 Shanika Martin (7WOR): “I was surprised when I got called to Mr Landers office to receive this award. I think I was chosen because of my respect for teachers and my Achievement Points. I am very proud!

Owen Dovey (7WOR): “I am very proud of myself for getting student of the Month, and I’m sure my parents will be. I have got this award for working very hard and doing all of my homework.”

YEAR 8 Katie Cartwright (8HMT): “I am so proud of myself for getting Student of the Month. I have been working so hard to do this.”

Emil Kondracki (8ALM): ”I am proud of my achievement and I will continue to work hard throughout the rest of Year 8.”

YEAR 9 Nital Patel (9WES): “I am proud to have earned this award. I put hard work into all of my lessons and I will continue with this effort.”

Fabio Godla (9WES): “I have settled in great to Holly Hall and things are going alright for me. To be honest I didn’t realise how great I was doing until I got Student of the Month.”

YEAR 10 Molly Handley (10KTU): “I am very proud of this achievement. I will work hard to achieve this for a third time. Thank you to all the amazing people who surround me.”

Deen Rafi (10KTU): “I am ecstatic! This is the second time I have received this award and I am very proud of myself. I know my Mom and Dad will be too.”

YEAR 11 Chloe Di Franco (11CLK): Mrs Turton said “Chloe is a very pleasant and hardworking student. She always tries her best and is very deserving of this award. Well done Chloe!”

Tayyab Khan (11HAL): “I am very pleased to get this award. dedication into my work and I am glad to see it pay off.”

Mr Biddlecombe, PE Teacher: On Monday a group of students took part in the Black Country Handball Tournament at WV Active (Aldersley). We competed at under 13s - Year 7/8, and under 15s Year 9/10. At the tournament we met two teams from Walsall, Sandwell and Wolverhampton, and one more team from Dudley. It was a strong tournament to play in.

A report by Year 10 student Amman Ahmed: We recently ran a competition where Year 7 students were invited to decorate an egg. We received some brilliant designs. Congratulations to the Morrison Andrade and Zenab Saeed, their designs were chosen as the winners.

All eggs have been displayed in the Student Shop and the top three designers received an Easter egg each.

Thank you to everyone who has purchased from the Student Shop so far this year. Happy Easter!

Both girls teams finished 8th in the tournament.

They had fought competition from many other schools in the lead up to the tournament, so this was a very respectable position to finish in.

Miss Wade, Head of MFL: On Monday twenty Year 11 French students attended the PiXL (Partners in Excellence) student conference at the East Midlands Conference Centre, Nottingham.

After taking advantage of the free tea and coffee the students attended a number of fast paced sessions which tested their vocabulary and grammar knowledge as well as equipping them with final exam hints and tips.

The students represented the Academy well and excellent contributions were made, particularly

by Yousaf Bhatti, Krystal Burudi, Tayyab Khan and Priyankaa Patel.

The Year 7/8 team was: Armeliah Akhtar, Katie Criddle, Paige Drabble, Charmaine Ndoro, Musi Masawi, Nazanin Miran, Holly Piddington and Safiya Wright-Chambers.

The Year 9/10 team was: Algesa Alistafa, Blessing Cubes, Donnae Fullerton, Natasha Hall, Sherrice Harris, Shannon Hollis, Courtney Mallen, Ellie-Mae McConnell, Tilly Mae Rhodes and Cydney Sutton.

The Year 7/8 boys finished in 5th position.

The team was: Rhys Edmonds, Brandon Franklin, Ilyaas Iqbal, Zohaib Majid, Evans Manase, Tyreece McDonald, Ryan Miller, Isaac Nicklin, Dylan Newman, Darren Omobogie.

The Year 9/10 Boys finished in 5th position The team was: Alex Billingsley, Tiernan Clarke, Iwan Edmonds, Jack Griffiths, Danyal Khan, Jordan Kondo, Brandon Newman, Ross Portman and Jamie Shanks.

Mr Landers, Principal: With Year 11 GCSE examinations fast approaching, we are running a revision programme during the Easter break. Letters and timetables have been posted home to parents.
