This month’s theme: EBONY JEWELWINGS by @majesstiq and @izzysnaturejournal
Ebony jewelwings look like dragonflies, but they’re actually damselflies.
Damselflies are generally smaller and thinner than dragonflies, and tuck their wings into their bodies at rest.
Jewel-toned Fellas
Jewelwings were named after the color of the male body, shown here.

They can be found almost anywhere in the eastern US living in wooded areas near streams or rivers, and summertime is their mating season.
Welcome to The Comfort Zone, where we provide discussions and resources related to mental health.
Topic of the Month: Mindful Eating
FOOD & SENSORY ISSUES
People with autism, ADHD, and sensory processing disorder often struggle with sensory issues surrounding food. For some, issues such as ARFID arise at a young age, and some children may be characterized as “picky eaters” before they are given a formal diagnosis. Thus, a lot of resources have been developed for children, but can still be useful for neurodivergent adults. One way to accommodate ourselves is to make mealtimes more sensory-friendly - check out this mealtime checklist from Autism Dietician. Another strategy is to practice mindful eating to integrate the senses and regulate the nervous system.
RESOURCES
Depending on whether you are sensory-seeking or sensoryavoidant, mindful eating may or may not work for you. Try out both of these approaches and see which is more helpful for you!

How & why to practice Mindful Eating
& the next page provides a worksheet to use while practicing mindful eating!
Sight:
Sound: What do you hear as you open, bite, and chew it?
Smell: What do you smell before, during, and after cooking and eating?
Taste: Is it bitter, salty, sour, etc? Does the taste change?
