WEEKLY BULLETIN 24 November 2023

QOTW: "Knowing" what's right counts for little unless you "do" right.

Message from the Head Dear Parents, In a world dominated by screens, guiding our primary-aged children toward healthy digital habits is more important than ever: the technology isn't going away and devices are only going to become more and more used by our Generation Alpha children. Here are some practical tips and insights on fostering a balanced approach to screen time. If we can get our little ones doing this at Primary School, the teenage road will be much more manageable! Understanding Screen Time Guidelines: Clarify recommended screen time and explain the importance of balance. Highlight the benefits of quality screen time, such as educational apps and interactive learning experiences. Create a Family Media Plan: Try developing a Family Media Plan that includes designated screen time hours, offline activities, and device-free zones, including at restaurants and parties. Be curious: Do you know what your child is up to online? If you ask them to show you, will they openly do so? If not.... Set a Good Example: Establish device-free family moments to strengthen bonds. Digital Safety and Security: Have open conversations about potential online risks and ask your children to explain what they would do if someone was unkind to them online: do they know where the report button is? Encourage Outdoor Play and Offline Activities: Screen time must be balanced with physical activity and offline hobbies: bake, cook, make paper airplanes ...! Wishing you all a lovely weekend, Kindest regards,

Mrs Brown and HHS Team

VOTES FOR SCHOOLS This week’s Votes Topic: Would you know how to support a friend if someone important to them died?

According to a recent survey by Winston’s Wish, 55% of children have only spoken to a family member about their grief, while nearly 10% have never spoken to anyone at all .

What is Votes For Schools? Votes For Schools is a personal development program we use at HHS It is designed to empower young voices, building oracy, confidence and critical thinking. Each week, a new subject is discussed and voted upon, both before and then again after having learned more about both sides of the argument. Remember, there's no "right" or "wrong" - The children are learning to argue for/against a position. This includes how to respectfully disagree with someone and calmly defend our point of view. Having meaningful discussions with your children is very important. “Votes for Schools” helps your child improve their persuasive arguing skills whilst building their understanding of the complexities of the world around them
