WEEKLY BULLETIN 19 1ANUARY 2024

QOTW:

If you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours!

Dear Parents,

Message from the Head

We’ve had a lovely, if somewhat crisp and frosty, week at HHS! Our Kindness Tree is starting to bloom, as those who have received acts of kindness from others have added their blossoms to the branches. This week, our Tuesday assembly was about World Religion Day, (which we celebrated today in school) with a special focus on the teaching of major world religions that unify us. If only international leaders and politicians would adhere to the same teaching; the world would truly be a better place! Hopefully you will have received my email from the 5th January about the sensitive matter of pupil gender questioning in schools. The government has released some non-statutory guidance around this issue and I look forward to sharing this with you in our Monday Zoom call; joining details are on the page below. Wishing you a super weekend, Mrs Brown and the Team

Votes For Schools THIS WEEK'S VOTE TOPIC Would you feel comfortable having a conversation about your mental health? (Primary 7-11) | Is it easy to talk about your feelings? (Primary 5-7)

In recent years, more and more mental health charities have been encouraging us to talk about our mental health to help us through challenging times. But many of these ideas have been around for thousands of years in different cultures and civilisations. Over 4000 years ago, in Ancient Egypt, Egyptian doctors created sleep temples to help distressed people who were unwell . They discussed the meaning of their dreams, and talked about what their future might be like. They also studied the mental health of their patients, helping them to share their knowledge with others. Those who were grieving or filled with anxious thoughts were given the chance to paint, listen to music and walk outdoors to help them recover .

Quick Guide to Emotional Literacy Emotional Literacy refers to our ability to recognise our emotions, and the strategies we use to cope with difficult feelings.
