laboratories housing plant science research often require particular design attention The unique combination of offices, laboratories, and greenhouses for conducting plant growth experiments are subject to significant design conditions, as they must maintain safe and precise environmental control over a wide range of space temperatures, humidity, air quality, and air movement. Orientation must be carefully chosen to minimize shadows cast on any greenhouses. Open, flexible, and modular laboratories are recommended to promote both interaction and allow for the changing nature of funded research programs and visiting investigators. Sophisticated electrical and mechanical systems are required to meet the critical loads of the laboratories, plant growth rooms and chambers, greenhouses and computational labs.

buildings that support animal health + agricultural science can cover an extremely broad range of science and facility needs Whether for academic research, government testing or private industry, those planning new or renovated facilities often require significant consultation on program, scope, cost, and schedules for projects that must be accomplished within limited budgets. Add to that the community concern that may arise over perceived hazards or animal well-being, and it’s easy to see why those building facilities for Animal Health and Agricultural Science are looking for an experienced hand to guide them through the programming and design process. With facilities may range from Companion Animal Health to Veterinary Research and Animal Vaccine Development, to Diagnostics to large-scale federal testing facilities, HOK brings a significant depth of experience from one of the largest Science + Technology practices with significant focus in Animal Health and Agricultural Facilities. This has given us insight into the unique processes involved in this facility type, as well as operational and security requirements designed to protect both animal and human health and safety. We work quickly and expertly to plan, design these special buildings, answering the critical issues around: • Labs to deal with Zoonotic and Vector-Borne Disease study • Labs for Rapid Diagnostics of Animal Disease • Flexible surge labs • AAVLD accreditation
