The Helene Fortunoff Theater, Monroe Lecture Center, South Campus Come and feel the experiential insight into West African culture. In West Africa, there is no audience when music is performed, everyone participates. The group will present a number of traditional pieces, with drumming, singing and dancing, and will play Gahu, Kinka, Agbekor, Bamaaya, Echauffment, Kpanlogo and more. The performers will invite and instruct you how to join in the music during a few of our recreational dances. In Fall 2022, Hofstra University will be starting its own West African Drumming, Singing and Dancing ensemble. This is a great chance to hear and to participate in the music.
