The Constitution of Makin’ Treble Preamble: Under Article I, section two, of the Student Government Association Constitution, the following organization is hereby granted approval to function as a student organization for the best interest of the University community. It is the duty of this student organization to follow the Student Government Association’s Constitution and Policy Series. A club or organization shall be defined as non-exclusive in its membership and actions if it​ ​extends equal opportunity to all qualified individuals without regard to Protected Characteristics. Qualified individuals are defined as those who meet the expectations and standards of the organizations’ inherent purpose.

Article I: Name A. The name of this organization shall be Makin’ Treble.

Article II: Purpose A. The purpose of Makin’ Treble is to provide female undergraduate students with an outlet for performance, and an opportunity to produce their own works. Ultimately, Makin’ Treble would like to provide a service to the Hofstra and Local Community that allows students to enjoy a different form of music.

Article III: Club Advisor A. The club advisor is determined by affiliation with the Music Department.

B. The club advisor of this group is responsible for assistance with problem-solving within the group and the administration.

C. The duties of the Club Advisor shall be the following: a. Mentor and advise this organization on how best to fulfill its purpose. b. Hold members and officers of this organization accountable. c. Provide structure for the meetings of this organization and serve as a resource for all members and officers during meetings.

Article IV: Membership A. Any full-time undergraduate female (female being defined as anyone who identifies with the female gender, expression, or experience) may become a member by audition only.

B. Status of Members a. Members shall be recognized as active if they attend at least two rehearsals a week and all scheduled performances unless excused by E-board. b. If their attendance does not coincide with the policy, they will be asked to become an inactive member until they are prepared to do so. c. If you have been inactive for more than one semester, you will be required to re-audition in order to be accepted into the group.

C. Mid-Year Auditions

a. Auditions shall be held at the beginning of every semester if determined they are necessary by the E-board. b. Dates will be determined by holding a poll and having current members vote which days they are available to hear the auditions of potential new members.

Articles V: Duties of Officers and their Elections A. Officers Their duties shall be as follows: a. President: Go to SGA meetings, oversee all E-board operations, primary contact between group and outside of group, managing gigs and on and off-campus appearances, paperwork, and reserving spaces. b. Public Relations: All public relations and fundraising (flyers, advertising). c. Vice President: Notes on meetings, contact within the group, takes rehearsal and e-board meeting notes, keeps track of attendance at rehearsals and gigs, and enforces attendance policy. d. Treasurer/Fundraising Chair: In charge of handling budget, appropriations, collecting and disbursing money. They are also responsible for brainstorming fundraising (tabling, restaurant partnerships, etc.) as well as designing and pricing merchandise. e. Music Director: Run song selection, arrange songs/delegate arranging to others, run all rehearsals/warm ups, and assist the President with any tasks.

B. Election Rules a. Elections will be held at the end of every academic year. i.

Election dates will be determined by holding a poll and having current members vote which days they are available to help elect officers. b. An E-board member will facilitate the elections if they are not running for a second semester. c. Nominations are first taken by the entire group, then the ballots are placed. d. The potential candidates present themselves and their mission to the group, then they are required to leave the room while the votes are being cast. i.

The vote is a closed vote, determined by a show of hands only visible to the election facilitator. e. The order of elections are as follows: President, Music Director, Vice President, Treasurer/Fundraising Chair, Public Relations f. There will be an SGA member present to facilitate the election.

Article VI: Meetings A. Rehearsals shall be held three times a week while classes are in session. It is mandatory for members to attend one weekday and one Sunday rehearsal. The exact time shall be determined by a music director and a majority agreement.

B. E-Board Meetings shall be conducted as determined by the E-Board.

Article VII: Removal of Officers A. If it is determined that an official within the group cannot meet or is not meeting the requirements as determined by the constitution, removal from the E-board shall be determined with the following 4

procedure: a. The proposal shall be first brought to the attention of the President. b. If the issue is regarding the President, the concern shall be brought to the Music Director c. The President shall then conduct an E-Board meeting regarding the Issue. d. If a solution is not able to be found, the problem at hand shall be addressed to the group. e. A ¾ of the active membership present vote is required to remove an officer f. A member of SGA’s Rules committee shall be present for impeachment proceedings to occur.

Article VIII: Methods of Amendment A. The attention of the proposed amendment shall be brought to an E-Board Member.

B. The E-Board will then conduct a meeting, to bring several possible solutions to the group.The amendment shall then be determined by a group vote. If 3⁄4 of the group share the same opinion, then steps shall be taken to proceed with the amendment.

C. D. Proposed amendments to this constitution shall be presented at any regular meeting and shall be ratified by two-thirds (2/3) vote of the active members present and voting at the following regular meeting.

E. Any amendments made to this constitution must be presented to and approved by the Student Government Association’s Rules Committee before going into effect.

Article IX: Fundraising A. Fundraising shall be coordinated by the Treasurer/Fundraising Chair B. Fundraising shall be used to offset costs for merchandise, transportation to off campus performance, recording and audio requirements, and the planning of invitational and events.

Article X: Logistics A. Events: Makin’ Treble’s rehearsal process finishes off with a concert, involving mandatory attendance from each member, at the end of each semester. a. Events shall be hosted at a time and date that is determined by all the members from a poll made by the President and the location shall be determined by the availability of on campus locations.

ARTICLE I - NAME The name of this organization is The Hofstra University Dutchmen.

ARTICLE II - PURPOSE The purpose of this group is to arrange, rehearse and perform a cappella music for the entertainment of the Hofstra Community and surrounding community. The group shall be an all-male a cappella group.

The music performed shall be arranged by members of the group and performances shall occur on and off Hofstra’s campus. The ultimate goal of the group is to enhance members’ knowledge of a cappella music, allow creative expression through music, singing and performing, and to entertain the Hofstra and Long Island Community.

ARTICLE III - MEMBERSHIP A. Any full-time undergraduate male (male being defined as anyone who identifies with the male gender, expression, or experience) may become a member by audition only.

B. Status of Members a. Members shall be recognized as active if they attend at least two rehearsals a week and all scheduled performances unless excused by eboard. b. If their attendance does not coincide with the policy, they shall be asked to become an inactive member until they are prepared to do so. c. If a member has been inactive for more than one semester, they shall be required to re-audition in order to be accepted into the group.

C. Attendance/Tardiness of performers.

1. Three (3) unexcused absences shall result in a dismissal from performance at what executive board deems to be biggest performance of that semester. If the performer is a soloist, their solo shall be given to the individual deemed to be their understudy.

However, their attendance is still required at the performance.

2. Four (4) unexcused absences shall result in a meeting with executive board to discuss the issue.

3. Five (5) unexcused absences shall result in dismissal from the group for the remainder of the semester with the opportunity to re-audition the following semester.

4. Two (2) unexcused instances of tardiness shall result in one unexcused absence on the performer’s record.

5. Arrival to a rehearsal/meeting or performance forty-five (45) minutes late shall count as an unexcused absence on the performer’s record.

6. The Executive Board members shall decide what constitutes as unexcused for all instances.

7. If a performer is a member of a club or other co-curricular activity that requires him to miss no more than one rehearsal a week, but they reserves the right to negotiate their own attendance agreement with the current executive board.

8. The aforementioned shall be counted per semester. Each semester, each member/performer starts anew.

ARTICLE IV- OFFICERS AND ELECTIONS Section 1. The titles and names of the Executive Board shall be: A. President: They shall run rehearsals and delegate the breakdown of music rehearsals to the musical director prior to the start of each rehearsal, with room for flexibility. President and VP shall jointly oversee all administrative decisions affecting the group. The President also assumes the responsibility of any other officers in their absence.

B. Vice President: They shall take on responsibilities for performances, directions, travel arrangements, phone calls, and contact lists pertaining to performance venues, times, etc.

They shall keep records of what goes on during meetings, maintain detailed logs of members’ attendance, and maintain a calendar of all group events. They shall also assume the role and responsibilities of the President in their absence.

C. Musical Director: They shall work closely with the President and VP and be responsible for teaching parts of each song with the corresponding arranger(s). They shall maintain the music library of both past and present songs and provide copies of music to EACH active member/performer of the group upon presenting the piece to the organization for rehearsal.

Additionally, they shall be the primary arranger for the organization, although anyone may

volunteer to arrange if they so desire.

D. Treasurer: They are responsible for all the financial responsibilities of the group. Duties shall include dealing with requests for refund payments to group members/performers, and keeping a detailed log of the money/assets/credit for the group.

E. Social Media Chair: They shall take the responsibility of publicity for the group. Their primary role shall be to effectively coordinate all online social media management responsibilities. This includes regularly engaging with online community via Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Soundcloud, etc. Other duties shall include utilizing Hofstra resources for printing and advertising on campus, including acquiring approval for said advertisements by OSLE. The Executive Board positions shall be held for one academic year.

Section 2. Executive Board Procedures A. The Executive Board shall meet at least once a week to discuss the status of all administrative decisions, the group itself, and future goals.

B. Any action of the present Executive Board must always be for the common good of the group.

C. Executive Board decisions may only pass with a two-thirds (2/3) vote.

Section 3. The decisions made by the Executive Board may be overturned by a two-thirds (2/3) vote from the active members/performers.

Section 4. Election Procedure A. Elections shall be held during the first meeting in May for the Executive Board B. The President shall take the nominations from the floor. Any active member/performer may be nominated by any eligible active member/performer for any office.

C. There shall be a closed ballot and election. Each decision, yes or no, must be decided by a two-thirds (2/3) majority.

D. All ballots must be cast in person.

E. The order of voting shall be President, Vice President, Musical Director, Treasurer, Publicity Chair, and Secretary.

F. Elected Officials shall take office at the first meeting of the semester immediately following

their election.

G. Procedure in the event of resignation, removal, or vacancy: 1.

Any vacancy in the President position shall result in the succession of the Vice President until an emergency election can be held.

2.

If for any reason the Vice President cannot assume the position as President, an election shall take place as soon as possible to elect a new President.

3.

Any vacancies in any other office shall be temporarily filled by an appointment by the remaining Executive Board members until a proper election may be held.

ARTICLE V-MEETINGS Section 1. Rehearsals/Meetings shall be held twice a week on Sundays and Wednesdays.

A. The President, VP, and Musical Director shall preside over all regular rehearsals.

B. If any current member/performer would like to work on a piece of music for the group, it is their responsibility to bring it up to the Musical Director. The process of learning a musical piece shall be in conjunction with both the musical director and the arranger(s).

Section 2. Informational Meetings A. Any member may propose to have an impromptu informational meeting for any reason. a. In order to conduct an impromptu informational meeting, a member must contact all members of the executive board and state their reason for holding the meeting b. The member who proposed the meeting must then work with the executive board to arrange a date, time, and location to hold the impromptu meeting B. If any subject is discussed that needs voting, a majority must be implemented to pass the vote ARTICLE VI-REMOVAL OF MEMBERS Section 1. If it is determined that a member/performer/officer is not fulfilling the duties of their position, or is violating the rules and procedures of the club, they shall be removed in the following manor: A. A special meeting must be called as explained in Article V, Section 2 so that a member or members may call attention to the charges of the individual in question.

B. The Executive Board shall inform the individual of when and where the impeachment vote shall take place. If requested by the individual in question for written verification of the charges being brought on, the Executive Board must provide such.

C. The individual shall have a chance to rebut the charges at the impeachment vote.

D. After all procedures have been carried out, a two-thirds (2/3) vote of all active members,

performers, and officers is required to remove the individual.

ARTICLE VII-METHOD OF AMENDMENT Section 1. Proposed amendments to this constitution shall be presented at any regular meeting and shall be ratified by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the active members present and voting at the following regular meeting.

Section 2. All amendments must be approved by the Rules Committee of the Student Government Association. *This document’s latest date of revision was on Sunday, September 22nd, 2019.

Chair Farooqui moves to suspend the rules to approve the senate minutes a) Motion seconded (1) Motion passes 2. National Society of Black Engineers Presents a) Their e-board only has the first couple positions filled, they still need to fulfill torch chair and academic excellence chair. b) They offer members leadership training, professional development, and they want to collect minority students in STEM in a safe place and they want their members to find mentorship in this club. They want to positively impact the community of minority students in STEM majors. c) They don’t enjoy when they walk into a classroom and they’re the only minority, so they want there to be a place for students to feel safe. d) They have many professional goals for the semester, including attending conferences. If SGA recognized, they would be allocated funds to be able to attend these conferences. e) They hold social events as well. They had people come out and do ice cream meetups and speed dating sessions to get to know each other better. They also have combined with other clubs to do panels about being a STEM major and finding success, etc. f) They want to be able to collaborate with even more clubs, and they want to implement mentor programs in the Hempstead area, which would also be made easier if SGA recognized.

(a) They have about 10-15 people (2) Comptroller Bathija asks how they see their club sustaining over the years because their eboard is mainly upperclassmen. (a) They have been communicating a lot with freshmen and sophomores because they feel that it’s important to have them involved as well.

(3) Senator Stark asks if they could speak a little bit about how SGA recognition would help their club (a) They need the financial resources to help their members, and do things such as attending conferences and go into tutoring programs outside of the Hofstra community.

Without financial support, they wouldn't be able to have access to these resources. (i) Club Relations Chair Alameda moves to recognize NSBE. (a) Motion seconded (i) By a vote of 20-0-0, National Society of Black Engineers becomes SGA recognized.

B. Hofstra Hedge Fund Association Club Recognition 1. Provides hands on learning experience for all of the hofstra community and helps students analyze stocks and things of that nature.

2. COre values of Hardline Capital: they encourage professional development. Most of their new members are freshmen, and they help them edit their resume, linkedin, and things like that. They also are aware of the issue of diversity and partnering with other clubs on campus to encourage diversity. They also want to foster a fun environment, and want to bring a fun approach to learning and understanding finance.

3. They like to give back to the community. They do fundraisers and on-campus things like tabling to give back. They are attending the walk for ALS on saturday.

4. They really discuss day-to-day activities in the stock market,and help new students be aware of what's going on in the finance world. They teach their members how to analyze stocks and taxes, and they get students familiar with speaking in front of crowds and being professional. They also execute trades with fake money so they get hands on experience of how to execute trades.

5. They have a mentorship program for all new members. A lot of new members dont understand thee stock market, so they have a mentorship program to help new students learn from older students. They have other committees as well to get more people involved and participate in club meetings. 6. They also want to organize guest speaker events so people in the club and outside of the club can learn from experts in the field. They want to give their members an outside perspective. They want to teach everyone how they can apply these skills.

They want to use Zarb resources and get funding for educational trips into the city in order to make their events possible. 1. Senator Stark begins by saying that this resolution will show SGA’s support in the library renovations. When they did the survey for Spring into Action week, the students responded to why they think we need library renovations and students are clearly concerned about it.

1. Compass wants two sga reps to sit on an advisory board about new renovations that are coming to the student center in 2020. This is a good opportunity to be able to voice your opinion. They’re going to set up the meeting as soon as they get their committees together. It will be on a first come first serve basis 2. We will need all hands on deck for pride expo. We will all be building the float in place of office hours.

B. Vice President - K.Dimes 1. If anyone wants to sit on the diversity advisory board, it starts at 3pm tomorrow in the dean of students conference room C. Comptroller- Bathija 1. Met with OSLE administrators about how to streamline club allocations. We have access to two databases: Access and Excel, but we are combining it into one database to keep track of club spending more efficiently. Everything is still in the works 2. Wants to streamline spending more within clubs, but this is more of a mid-semester goal.

Call to Order at 8:05 PM Pres & VP Updates A. Representatives 1. Compass Dining a) Knows everyone in SGA is very busy and giving everyone the benefit of the doubt for not signing up, but let’s make sure we’re keeping an eye out for people getting involved in SGA, but regardless, we have JT and David as our Compass representatives.

2. Bookstore Advisory Committee a) Meets Wednesday mornings at 9:30 am. Looking for a representative.

This person would be overseeing the design of apparel, and doesn’t meet weekly, so not a huge time commitment.

3. SAC/USenate a) Looking for an SGA rep. At USenate. Rep. wouldn’t be talking or participating in meetings, they just would be observing and then bringing news back to Senate. The position is opened to Cabinet first, and if no one in Cabinet is interested, we will reach out to Senate. USenate meets on Mondays at 3:30 on a monthly basis.

B. Preparing Senate for seeing the acapella groups/clarifying policy 1. Before the clubs come in tomorrow, President Harley wants all senators to know that their constitutions are not unconstitutional, and the groups (dutchmen and treble) don’t have to be recognized together.

C. Sponsoring Events 1. Black Student Union

a) BSU asked us to sponsor an event with them. They need $700 to fully sponsor this event. This is a conversation to have with Comptroller Bathija. If SGA does co-sponsor, we will help with PR and with contracting for the event. The event is having “The Loan Doctor” come to campus to do a workshop with students about student loans, and the event will be open to all students. It will be a very helpful resource for students. It will be on October 10th at 8 pm.

2. Kathleen a) OSAPA is bringing the “arrive alive” tour to Hofstra, a program dedicated to educating students about driving under the influence. It’s a simulation that includes VR and realistic technology to help people understand the consequences of driving under the influence. The tour group will be here for 6 hours, and OSAPA has requested $500 for this event. Again, this event has to be discussed with Comptroller Bathija.

D. Elections Bash run of show 1. Email every person who got elected, and tell them to come to the greenhouse at 6:30.

2. At senate, we will call the meeting to order, and then swear in the justices, then the senators.

3. Afterward, we will have a section of the agenda called “special business” (TBD) where we will all mingle and meet the new senators.

III.

Matters at Hand A. Restructuring conversation: Chairperson Alameda 1. Club Relations discussed restructuring SGA, which turned into a huge conversation that spiraled into concrete ideas. They made a small powerpoint with ideas, which will be presented to Senate at some point in the near future.

Chairman Alameda asks if Senate can debate about this in an informal way a) Chairman Farooqui says that we can have an unmoderated caucus under Robert’s Rules.

2. The ideas are very drastic, and this would potentially be the biggest change to SGA ever, according to Chairman Alameda. The powerpoint that they have created so far basically discusses constraints about our current structure, what Club Relations would like to see for SGA going forward, and then a brief outline

of the restructure proposal outline. This restructuring would get rid of committees altogether, and create two “chambers” (also TBD) in place of committees and chair positions. This restructuring also would operate as an unmoderated caucus led by the Vice President, but other than that, we would not adhere to strict Robert’s rules.

B. Pride Expo details: Chairperson Firooz 1. Pride Expo is this Saturday from 12-2.

2. Chairwoman Firooz moves to make attendance at pride expo from 12-2 mandatory on Saturday for returning senators a) Motion seconded (1) Motion passes with a vote of 6-0-1.

3. Painting for pride expo was made mandatory in place of an office hour for Senators, but in the future we will make rules like this clearer in the motions so everyone has full understanding of the rules.

4. Changes to the reallocation process: Comptroller Bathija IV.

Chair Check-In A. Appropriations: Chairperson Cote 1. Five clubs were seen 2. Having some technical difficulties with GetInvolvedHU 3. There were some funding issues with HAMA, so the Appropriations minutes may look a little messy.

B. Club Relations: Chairperson Alameda 1. Nothing super pressing for Club Relations, but meeting date for club training has to be moved because clubs have to be given two weeks notice.

C. Public Relations: Chairperson Rielly 1. Public relations has four new associates. a) President Harley wants to make sure everyone is aware that the associate position is still a time commitment, so we can’t let associates slack off with attendance. Also, make sure your senators and associates feel comfortable and willing to share their opinions in committee meetings. b) VP Dimes mentions that last year, before she was put on her committee, she had some information shared with her about what her committee was. She thinks this is a good idea and that next week, all chair members

should give a brief overview at the meeting about what their committee does.

2. Date for headshot night will be scheduled soon, and it will most likely be on October 10th. An announcement will be made at Senate. Depending on the weather, they may be taken in the gazebo.

3. Denise liked the idea of the stickers, so a design will be created soon and then we will order the stickers. They will probably say “lead with pride.”

4. Also discussed website updates. Updated pictures need to be put on the website.

The website also might include an SGA help center where people can send in questions if they don’t know who to reach out to.

5. The Newsletter is going to be called “The Decorum For ‘Em.” 6. In Canvas session, they brainstormed layout for the newsletter.

7. Also brainstormed an idea board to put possibly in the secretary's office for people to write their ideas down.

D. Rules: Chairperson Farooqui 1. 2 senatorial actions this week. Makin’ Treble and the Dutchmen will be coming for recognition. They will come at 7:15 and 7:30.

2. 3 constitution updates were made in Rules committee. a) Chairwoman Osner will be the designated person to send out election emails.

E. Spirit: Chairperson Firooz 1. Chairwoman Firooz will not be at Senate tomorrow night.

2. Spirit mainly discussed Pride Unleashed week. One of the main events they want to put on is the movie in the arena, which didn’t work out last year.

3. We are trying to move away from giveaways, but some small prizes like popsockets will still be given out. Fanny packs were also in the discussion as a prize.

4. Pep rally will happen Wednesday, and then cupcake wars will be happening right after the pep rally.

5. On the night of the movie, we will have smores, as well as having the concession stand in the arena open.

F. Student Services: Chairperson Osner 1. Student services has two new associates and one senator.

2. They also got responses back about sponsorships for Student Appreciation Week.

3. The sustainability initiative and the Hempstead initiative are the top two initiatives Student Services will be focusing on in the near future.

4. Chairwoman Osner will present information about the It’s On Us ambassador at Senate tomorrow night for new Senators.
