Common Amenities Although there are many different living areas available on campus, each residence hall offers similar amenities. For example, each has laundry, study, and kitchen facilities in common areas of the building. Typically, rooms are furnished with a bed, dresser, wardrobe or closet, desk, chair, and wastebasket for each student. The residence halls have a robust, high speed, wireless network that students can access streaming to their tablets and laptops using whatever streaming services they subscribe to. Cooking/Refrigerator/Microwave Cooking is permitted only in the kitchen areas of each residence hall. Residents may cook in their rooms only if they use a University-approved refrigerator/microwave unit. Common area kitchens are equipped with an oven, stove, and/or microwave. There are various food and beverage vending machines located in the lobbies or lounges of the residence halls. Several of our residence halls offer newly renovated kitchens where students can gather to prepare or share a meal, or simply relax while enjoying a spectacular view of Hofstra's campus and the surrounding community. Residents may bring a refrigerator to campus for their residence hall room or suite (one per room or two per suite). The refrigerator must be an energy-efficient model and may not exceed 5 cubic feet in size. Personal microwaves are prohibited in residence hall rooms and suites. The University has made arrangements with a vendor to provide both refrigerator and refrigerator/microwave rental units at competitive prices. You will receive specific information regarding this rental service during the summer, since it is best to make this decision in consultation with your roommate. For safety reasons, only refrigerator/freezer/ microwave multiunits rented through a University-sanctioned vendor are permitted in on-campus residence halls. Personal refrigerators, including refrigerator/freezer/microwave multiunits rented through the University-sanctioned vendor, are prohibited in the Graduate Residence Hall rooms and suites. Linens The Office of Residence Life has partnered with Our Campus Market to provide Hofstra students and families with a convenient, affordable way to ensure that you have sheets that will fit the extra-long mattresses in our residence halls. The Our Campus Market program has all your campus living needs, from extra-long twin sheets and comforters to matching towels and storage items. For more information, please visit Our Campus Market at OCM.com/hof. Security Each residence hall is monitored by resident safety representatives. There is a sign-in procedure at the Public Safety booth of each building and complex. All persons entering a residence hall, both residents and nonresidents, must present acceptable identification before being admitted to the building. The only acceptable form of identification for a Hofstra student is a current and valid HofstraCard. All residents are encouraged to consider ways to insure their belongings (e.g., renter's insurance).
