The Right Program for You School of Health Sciences and Human Services According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, an estimated 25 percent of all new jobs created in the next seven years will be in the health care industry, and the Hofstra University School of Health Sciences and Human Services (HSHS) is poised to meet the growing need for the next generation of qualified practitioners, managers and health care policy makers who will work in homes, schools, clinics, workplaces, government and community agencies, hospitals and other health care facilities. Through course work, practical learning experiences and internships in areas such as rehabilitation, counseling and therapy, physician assistant studies, speech-language pathology, audiology, public health and health management, students become effective and compassionate clinicians, evidence-based practitioners and advocates who promote health equity. The curriculum is grounded in the liberal arts and sciences, giving students a strong foundation to develop critical thinking, oral and written communication skills, and an appreciation of the cultural and economic diversity of local, regional and global communities.

The School of Health Sciences and Human Services is composed of the Departments of Health Professions, Counseling and Mental Health Professions, Physician Assistant Studies, and Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences. There is also an accelerated dual degree program (Bachelor of Science/Master of Science) in physician assistant studies. HSHS faculty include both practitioners and scholars actively involved in research.
