HOFSTRA UNIVERSITY Russian Major AN 8-SEMESTER STUDY GRID (with distribution courses)
This example shows how an incoming first year student might complete a Russian major in 8 semesters. If you declare your major later, have advanced credit or competency in Russian, or are a Transfer Student, your grid will look considerably different. Your choices may vary. Comparative Literature courses required for the major include LIT courses on Russian literature, and may include other courses under advisement. Up to 6 credits of Core Distribution credits may be taken during Study Abroad. Students are required to meet with an academic advisor at least once a semester. Whenever possible, we encourage students in our language programs to participate in a study abroad program for a summer, semester, or year. Students may go abroad as early as summer after their first year, though most students commonly do so in their sophomore or junior year Requirements for the major: The BA major in Russian consists of 24 semester hours in Russian beyond level 4, plus 6 semester hours in comparative literature. Please see the Hofstra Bulletin for full degree requirements.
FIRST YEAR The grid below assumes you have no placement credit in the Russian language; note that many students receive placement in Russian, which reduces the number of courses required to complete the major. Courses required for the major are in bold type. Any prerequisites are not in bold type. Other configurations of distribution requirements are possible as long as the total number of distribution requirements is met over 8 semesters. Two of your courses will need to be designated as Writing Intensive (WI). Fall
