This is simply an example of what 8 semesters might look like for incoming First-Year students. If you declare your major later, or are a Transfer Student, your grid will look considerably different.

Your choices may vary. There are several course options for most required categories.

Up to 6 credits of Core Distribution credits may be taken during Study Abroad.

Students should meet with their Psychology Department advisor at least once every semester.

Some Psychology courses (AP/IB/Transfer) taken prior to Hofstra can count toward the major.

Some Non-Psychology courses taken prior to your first year can count toward general education requirements or elective credits, whether taken at Hofstra or transferred in.

You can complete your degree of 124 credits by taking 5 courses each semester. Most courses are 3 credits and four of the required courses for the Psychology Major are 4 credits (PSY 001, PSY 040, PSY 141, PSY 190s). **Selecting a minor is not required but a minor in a variety of areas can be a good complement to the Psychology Major. Taking a second Major is also an option for those who plan accordingly. ***In addition to going on study abroad for either semester in their third year, students can go for the entire academic year in their third year, for a semester in their second or fourth years, or for a short-term program in the summer or during the January break.
