Dear edTPA Mentorship Student: Included in this packet is information that you will need in order to obtain a field placement for the purpose of completing an edTPA portfolio for NYSED teacher certification purposes. Upon completion and submission of the required forms and information, the Office of Field Placement in the School of Education will obtain a short-term (3-6 weeks) placement in a classroom in your certification area for you to be able to design lessons and teaching materials necessary to develop an edTPA portfolio. During your placement, you will meet regularly (1x or 2x per week depending on the timetable of your placement) with a field supervisor who has been trained in edTPA portfolio development and submission to assist you with its preparation. It should be understood that the work that you will be doing must be your own and that you are bound by all School of Education field placement procedures. Your field supervisor is permitted to provide overall guidance and direction to you during the field placement, but the actual development of your portfolio must be your own work . As part of the information provided to you in this packet, please carefully read the edTPA publication entitled, Guidelines For Supporting Candidates Completing edTPA. It is our hope that within several weeks after your edTPA field placement is completed that you will be able to submit your edTPA portfolio for evaluation. We will do everything in our power to assist you in the preparation of your edTPA portfolio. Sincerely, John R. Lewis, Associate Dean External Relations, Field Placement and Recruitment
