"W.E.B. DU BOIS AND THE AESTHETIC EDUCATION OFFERED BY MUSIC"
With
Eduardo M. Duarte, PhD, Professor, Teaching, Learning and Technology, Hofstra University

Faculty Summer Research Grant Public Lecture
The Souls of Black Folk by W.E.B. Du Bois is organized musically: literally and figuratively framed by music. Each chapter has as its epigraph bars of music, small segments from noteworthy spirituals. This talk will explore the thesis that when we read Souls we are receiving an aesthetic education: Du Bois teaches us how to hear and listen to the transformative power of music
