Recently, however, their numbers have decreased across the country, as international students face challenges that differ in kind and degree from their domestic peers. In this session, counseling professionals will speak about how a university community can enhance the experiences of international students to foster positive academic and intercultural outcomes. Panelists will explore a range of factors that make up the international student experience in the United States from academic, intercultural, social and mental health viewpoints, and discuss why the presence and participation of international students is vital for developing internationalization efforts across U.S. higher education. Finally, we will share strategies to promote international student wellbeing and success in the classroom, including through peer-led initiatives.
