Minutes of the 82nd Cabinet Hofstra University Student Government Association

April 11th, 2018 DSA Conference Room Meeting Called to Order at 6:59 p.m. 1.

Call to Order

2.

New Business a. S.A. 2018.82.004 i. Comptroller Kutsch asks if for section “e” why they made it this time period 1.

Chairperson Radeva says the thought process was that club leadership changes throughout the year so making the club wait a whole academic year wouldn’t necessarily be fair if the club made leadership changes

ii.

Chairperson Read moves to add S.A. 2018.82.004 to the Senate Agenda 1.

Motion seconded

2.

Motion passes unanimously

b. S.A. 2018.82.005 i. Chairperson Read asks if there’s a reason that there’s no spot for an advisor signature 1.

Chairperson Radeva - they did not think to add this but that can be a motion tomorrow

ii.

Chairperson Tomasso moves to add S.A. 2018.82.005 to the Senate Agenda 1.

Motion seconded

2.

Motion passes unanimously

c. S.A. 2018.82.006

13

i. Chairperson Read asks why this is being changed 1.

Chairperson Labrie says that the Elections Commission wants to have one required debate instead of all three. So now only one is required but future Elections Commissions can hold up to three.

ii.

Comptroller Kutsch asks if we know the procedure for who makes the questions. 1.

President Cinquemani says the questions and set up are generated by the Elections Commission.

iii.

Chairperson Tomasso asks what the format is. 1.

President Cinquemani says it would typically be a President-only debate and Vice President-only debate on one day and then a ticket debated that also fielded audience questions on another day - similar to a town hall

iv.

Chairperson Radeva - does this mean that by taking away the first two debates it would take away the conversation only pieces and make it more Town hall only? 1.

v.

Chairperson Read asks if Cabinet is allowed to pass this without signatures 1.

vi.

vii.

Chairperson Labrie - it is not specified so it can be open

Chairperson Labrie says technically yes it just must be signed tomorrow

Comptroller Kutsch moves to add S.A. 2018.82.006 to Agenda 1.

Motion seconded

2.

Objection

3.

Motion rescinded

Chairperson Read doesn’t think a single Elections Commission should be allowed to change the policy series on the whole election process

viii.

Comptroller Kutsch thinks that holding three sounds like a lot of debates when student body might not be interested

ix.

Chairperson Read thinks this feels like the Elections Commission this year just doesn’t feel like doing three

x.

Chairperson Denton and Chairperson Labrie say in their defense the timeline this semester is very short

14

xi.

President Cinquemani - in past all three were held during the same common hour 1.

Chairperson Tomasso asks if this flowed well a.

President Cinquemani yes, it’s basically just one debate split into three

2.

Chairperson Radeva asks how the portions are different a.

It’s based on roles of President and Vice President and each ticket plans a kickoff to talk about platform which is a little different

xii.

Comptroller Kutsch thinks Cabinet should keep Senatorial Actions from Senate because they are inappropriate or do not follow SGA rules, if it’s an opinion thing it should still go to Senate

xiii.

Chairperson Labrie agrees that the policy should not be changed but all of Senate should see it so that there is a chance for Senators to discuss this

xiv.

Chairperson Radeva thinks this is an important change and will be happening days before the existing event is changed so this doesn’t leave time for preparation or consideration this year

xv.

3.

Comptroller Kutsch moves to add S.A. 2018.82.006 to the Senate Agenda 1.

Motion seconded

2.
