On October 19, 2001, Hofstra celebrated the Inauguration of its eighth President, Stuart Rabinowitz, at events attended by hundreds of the University’s loyal supporters and friends, including members of the Board of Trustees, alumni, friends, students, faculty and staff. The new President’s family and friends also shared this historic day with us. The Inaugural Ceremony was held at the Hofstra Arena, and participants adorned in academic regalia provided the pomp and circumstance for this historic University event.

A special presentation of Hofstra University’s original Charter from the State of New York was made by Chairman of the Board of Trustees John J. Conefry, Jr.
Helene Fortunoff, Trustee and former Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, presented Stuart Rabinowitz with the official University Seal engraved on a medallion to wear at all academic occasions.
President Emeritus Dr. James M. Shuart ’53, Hofstra’s seventh President for 25 years, presented Stuart Rabinowitz with the key to the University.
