They have a new integrative program that assists students with anxiety concerns iii. Also integrated recreational services iv. They will have an advisory board 1. No staff will sit on it. It will consist of students who would provide them with information to improve the services they provide v. They have also removed the $30 fee for counseling services vi. They state that their services are still for the short term 1. They have the ability to provide students with a good foundation and to address their needs for a small period of time vii. Questions 1. Comptroller Kutsch asks how students for the advisory board will be selected a. They state that they are looking at individuals from general areas not specific students. They would like Graduate, Undergraduate students, and Medical School students. They would also like to have student leaders who have expressed an interest and representatives from athletics.

a. They state they are almost there. They are waiting to hear back from a couple of individuals for the above representations. They hope this happens within the next month Senator Rose asks how the word will be going out about these fees a. They state they have published it in a few spaces. It is posted on their website. They have had conversations with students at orientation. It is an ongoing effort. It needs to be word by mouth too. There are brochures published with this information as well.

Senator Stark asks for an explanation for the recreational services they will be providing a. They will identify students through assessment and will be offering exercise services to those that have anxiety, stress, depression, and such Chairperson Schmidt asks if they have considered updating their website a. They state that they have to deconstruct in order to reconstruct the website. It will happen as they have time. Updated policies and procedures will be put onto the website once that is done. b. Chairperson Schmidt suggests that bios of counselors could be shown on the website i. They state that they have been going thinking about this and are trying to change the way the information is placed on the website ii. They state that it needs a total revamp Chairperson Schmidt asks that once individuals are referred to a long term service, is there a follow up on whether that long term service takes a students’ health insurance a. They state that this is a big issue and a national issue. It is a challenge to find a provider who covers one’s insurance. There are clinics and folks that don’t take insurance. They try to make sure the students are supported Senator Tomy asks how many students utilize these resources a. They state that it has been increasing. They do not know the exact numbers. They are trying to keep up with the demand b. They state that short term is 8 to 10 sessions. They recognize that there are students that need long term care President Normandin asks about waiting periods and/or scheduling meetings a. They state that when meetings are scheduled they are mostly on-going. They state that if someone calls for an appointment one day for a meeting that same day, they might not have an appointment time. They will respond to making meetings as soon as possible if someone states that there is an urgent situation b. They state that on call counselors are supposed to be utilized when the center is closed after 9:00pm. On-call counselors have also been called in during regular hours for emergencies Senator Carrion asks about how they help students that may run into a problem with transportation or insurance and need urgent attention a. They state that they try to do all that they can. They try to always follow up Senator Fegley asks about what type of collaboration would happen with the fitness center a. They are going to try to remain within the scope of their expertise. They will rely on their partners at the recreational center to see to the students needs specifically. They will have more information as this initiative goes on Senator Bathija asks if on call counselors were advertised

a. They state that this information is given out at orientation.

Hofcasts also have this posted. They hand out written information. It is also on their website 12. Senator Rose asks about how complaints are taken and looked at a. They state that any concerns or complaints are addressed at staff meetings. They state they have not heard much criticism for these on call counselors. There is more criticism for the ongoing staff. They state that if anyone has any concerns, they should email them.

13. Chairperson Tomasso asks how students can report problems if they do not know SHACC administrators’ emails a. They state that people call the center or parents will call in. They want to hear complaints 14. Vice President Denton asks about a quick recap to plans and goals moving forward a. They want to be faithful to their current commitments. They are looking to establish this advisory board. A doodle poll should go out in a month regarding the first meeting for this board. They are committed to seven therapy groups each week viii. They state that if anyone has ideas, please let them know New Business A. Club Recognition Hearing i. Neuroscience Club ii. Chairperson Ramirez introduces the Neuroscience Club iii. Senator Read asks if the Rules Committee has any concerns with this Club 1. Chairperson Ramirez states that there is some concern about Article IX Section B regarding fundraising iv. The Neuroscience Club presents 1. They would like to share more information about the field of neuroscience to students on campus. Since it is a new major on campus, they thought it would be beneficial to have a club on campus on this topic. There are a wide variety of majors in this club. Most of the time, there are a consistent 25 members at meetings. Faculty is very involved with this club.

2. They state that a lot of things that they do has to do with collaborations with the biology club and psychology club. They are trying to collaborate with CCE. Their collaborations are consistent 3. Their mission is to build a community of individuals interested in this club. They want to be more involved in community service. They have research related conferences. They do state that they are limited in what they can do 4. They have done numerous community service events v. Chairperson Crofts moves to extend speaking time for 2 minutes 1. motion seconded 2. motion passes unanimously vi. The Neuroscience Club continues their presentation 1. They were able to raise good amounts of money for charity donations.

They have social media outlets for individuals to learn more about this club vii. Questions 1. Senator Algarin asks what they hope to gain from SGA recognition a. They state that they are looking to gain more membership into their club. They would also like to add a honor society 2. Senator Read asks if the honor society would be required for members a. No, it would be a subsection of the club

3. Senator Tomy asks about the discrepancy between their mission statement in their constitution and their statement during the presentation a. They state that everything stated in the constitution and presentation go toward their goal for this club. They try to be more broad in their presentation 4. Senator Candelaria asks about the limitations they spoke about in their presentations a. They state that the limitation is transportation. They would like to do more charity events in the city and it is expensive 5. Senator Read moves to extend question time by 3 minutes a. motion seconded b. motion passes unanimously 6. Senator Rose asks about their fundraising a. They fundraise for charities 7. Chairperson Schmidt asks about another way to fund for transportation like dues a. They state that dues could limit the amount of students who would be a part of this club. However, the honors society would help with this 8. Senator Hurley asks about events they have done on their own a. They have done club meetings, walks for charities, and many more events separate from other clubs.

9. Senator Gonzalez asks about specific community service events they have held a. They state they have done community service at Mary Brennan and generalized walks. They would like to do Brainstorm, go to Hempstead High School to educate the kids viii. Senator Read i. states that they have stated in their presentation that 25 members attend each meeting but the roster given out does not show this. They want to educate the population but community service is their main point but not in their mission statement b. Chairperson Ramirez i. states that their purpose is to fundraise c. Senator McDonough i. states that his concern is funding. It seems that the point of this club coming is to get funding. Fundraising is also in their constitution but not as a means for income d. Comptroller Kutsch i. states that they are extremely active e. Senator Algarin i. states that they want more members f. Senator Doan i. states that they have not done much to help the community on campus. We need to see how they are contributing to Hofstra. There is a lot of overlap with other clubs g. Student Services Committee present this legislation 1. They state that these questions came out of multiple meetings that were held with feedback from administrators. They then took those into account when writing these questions. They go over each question in detail. They formed these questions to help see what needs to be improved or changed on campus ii. Questions 1. Senator Hurley asks if for question two, a “check all that apply” can be added a. They are trying to see what is the most pressing issue right now 2. Senator Phillips asks if these can be ranked or have at least two “checks” a. The data could show that through percentages 3. Senator Fegley asks about clarification for question 6 4. Senator Firooz asks if friendliness should be added 5. Senator Carrion asks if the language could be standard throughout the documents iii. Senator Tomy moves to strike question 4 1. motion seconded 2. motion objected a. Debate i. Senator Tomy debates for 1. states that the wording causes this to be a leading question ii. Chairperson Schmidt debates for 1. states that asking people for support on something would not lead to any data that could be used to bring about change iii. Senator Battipaglia states that this is misleading because the people might pick the option “no concerns” because time is not an option 7. First Gen Pride Day a. Coordinated by Russ Smith, Associate Director of Residence Life b. Tabling from 11 am – 3 pm: i. Nick Carrion- 2-3 PM ii. Circle back with the rest of SGA c. Media- please use #CelebrateFirstGen and #HofFirstGenPride 5. Inclusion Ambassador a. Senator Cote will be attending the ISLC at 8:30 PM tonight!
