There will be new video boards on the arena 2. They are trying to engage everyone at Hofstra more 3. There will be DJs at the games 4. More giveaways this year 5. Motion passes unanimously New Business A. S.A.2018.83.003 i. Comptroller Kutsch and Senator Narain present this legislation 1. Intention of this legislation is to add a small change to increase expectation of clubs looking to be SGA-recognized 2. Clubs will be required to bring a roster to a Rules Committee meeting 3. This will be a way to check on how many members clubs actually have ii. Questions 1. Senator Ismail asks how recent the roster has to be a. At least one from that semester iii. Chairperson Ramirez moves to change the wording of this legislation from “one such meeting” to “two such meetings” iv. Vote 1. By a vote of 41-1-0 that motion passes v. Chairperson Crofts moves to move into a speakers list for 30 seconds each with 6 speakers 1. motion seconded 2. motion passes unanimously vi. Speakers List 1. Senator Narain a. Subsection B should be changed if changes are to be made 2. Senator Doan a. Update the fundraising 3. Senator Stewart a. Material edits to other parts of the section 4. Senator Ortiz a. vii. Comptroller Kutsch moves to amend the legislation from “shall” to “may” 1. motion seconded 2. motion passes unanimously viii. Senator Firooz moves to pass this senatorial action 1. By a vote of 41-1-1 this motion passes B. Constitutional Convention i. Defined better timelines for elections, added guidelines for when turnover occurs, also defined when the elections commission had to be formed by C. Chairperson Ramirez moves to suspend the Rules until AV comes in to aid with the presentation setup i. motion seconded ii. motion passes unanimously D. Constitutional Convention continued i. Previously elections were set to happen during a specific time range, which was too concrete, therefore the members of the Constitutional Convention have put in the words “no later than” to this timeline to make sure SGA does not go against its’ own policies ii. Elections Commission will now need to be formed by the second semester of a school year. Senator Harley, who was a part of the previous commission, also gave her input in this change. It now gives time for the Election Commission to not be formed in a rush 1. Chairperson Crofts asks if members should state if they disagree with anything now while it is being presented rather than later a. Chairperson Ramirez states that this is correct 2. Senator Greenberg asks if a statement can be added a. Chairperson Ramirez states yes but it can be done during a Rules Committee meeting and can be brought in during the next Senate 3. Senator Algarin states that she is concerned about timing a. Senator Fletcher states that it should be earlier so that everything can go smoothly 4. Chairperson Schmidt states that some people may change their mind within this time period 5. Chairperson Ramirez asks if there are any more questions iii. Chairperson Ramirez moves to have a straw poll to see if members would like to approve the language as it is in Section 215 or to change it 1. motion seconded 2. motion passes unanimously iv. Chairperson Ramirez goes on to speak about turnover and how the last turnover was very long with little breaks. New language has been added to have a senate meeting and then a special meeting instead of one long meeting 1. Chairperson Crofts asks why they have a time limit for this special meeting a. Chairperson Ramirez states that the next week is gala so it makes sense to have a time limit 2. Senator Tadbiri asks when elections would take place a. Chairperson Ramirez states that the second “special” meeting would be when this would be held. Senate would decide when the special meeting will be 3. Senator Fletcher states that elections would not be during the first meeting of the following Senate which would be the 84th. This would give more time for senators to prepare for elections 4. Senator Doan asks how Senate will vote on the special meeting a. President Normandin states that this has to be done with a 1/3rd vote of Senate

Chairperson Crofts moves to open the speakers list for 4 speakers 30 seconds each on the topic of whether committee elections should be held prior to the next Senate meeting or at the next Senate meeting 1. motion seconded 2. motion objected a. Traditional Debate i. Senator Read speaks for 1. We need to discuss this because members have opinions ii. Senator Narain debates for 1. We should have people talk about it now rather than later iii. Chairperson Ramirez debates against 1. This has already been discussed before iv. Comptroller Kutsch debates against v. Chairperson Crofts debates for 1. We should discuss when the elections would be b. Vote to move into a speakers list for the topic of committee chair elections i. By a vote of 8-33-1, the speakers list will not be open vi. Senator Doan moves to open the speakers list for 6 speakers for 30 seconds each regarding thoughts on turnover 1. Motion seconded 2. motion passes unanimously vii. Speakers List 1. Senator Doan a. states that she likes the idea of having another meeting however why should we choose which day this should be. We should have a set time 2. Senator Narain a. states that the turnovers in the past have not worked well. The week afterwards is always gala 3. Chairperson Crofts a. states that he does not want it to be this ambiguous.

4. Senator Fletcher a. states that the Rules committee left it to be more open on purpose so that future Senates can choose the day they can all meet 5. Senator Rose a. states that the current wording allows for flexibility. Even if we have a specific date there will still be people that cannot make a meeting 6. Chairperson Ramirez a. states that we should not set the date to be a Friday, not everyone has this time open. It is not fair to ask of more people’s time outside of what it is now viii. Senator Fegley moves to skip debate and move into a vote to table this discussion until the next Senate meeting 1. this motion is not seen ix. Senator Battipaglia moves to pass turnover 215.3 1. motion is rescinded x. Senator Fletcher moves to have a straw poll on whether we should edit now or wait until the next meeting on the following meeting 1. Motion seconded 2. motion passes unanimously xi. Senator Fletcher moves to unofficially pass the ConCon legislation as it is now

Chairperson Ramirez moves to unofficially pass the rest of this constitution 1. By a vote of 42-0-1 this motion has passed xv. Chairperson Ramirez states that she would like to see if anyone would be willing to have a meeting before the next official ConCon meeting. A GroupMe poll will be put up shortly so please answer if you would like to be present at this meeting xvi. Chairperson Ramirez states that if anyone has any thoughts on the topics for these ConCon meetings, please come to the meeting so that we can do this debate at that meeting so that we do not have to go into such a detailed debate here at Senate xvii. Hofstra University Student Government Association Two Thousand and Eighteen S.A.2018.83.004 SGA Spring Elections Debates

(Excerpt can be found on Page 23, Section 3 of the Policy Series)

3. DEBATES: a. Any questions relating to the debates shall be directed to the Elections Commission and answered outside of the Student Government Association office. b. If there is an uncontested election, the Elections Commission shall hold at least one (1) event during which the ticket presents the goals of their campaign to the general Student Government Association constituency prior to voting dates. c. The Elections Commission shall organize three (3) debates at least one (1) debate if there is a contested election. d. The first shall be a presidential debate, the second shall be a vice presidential debate, and the third shall be a ticket debate. A ticket debate shall be held prior to voting dates.

The Elections Commission may hold two (2) additional debates prior to voting: a presidential debate and a vice presidential debate. e. Only a member of the Elections Commission shall be eligible to act as the moderator for the debate(s). f. The Elections Commission may shall advertise the debates one (1) week in advance of the debate(s). xz
