Special Business A. Student Center Quad Area Updates/Feedback – Dom Lavin i. Working with an architect now to remodel the space in front of UClub ii. Looking to place council rings, site amenities, and/or a seating area iii. There will also be an upper Plaza with outdoor seating iv. Will redirect the service road, make new pathways, and new sidewalks v. Relocate the structures perhaps to add more space vi. There will also be a higher raised walkway for pedestrian right-of-way vii. Landscape buffer to reduce the noise-level from the roadway viii. Senator Algarin asks about the statues 1. Dom Lavin states that these are a part of the Hofstra Museum collection, so they can be moved but not removed ix. Senator Read asks about this being perhaps being a classroom space with a covered structure 1. Dom Lavin says that yes it could be but it would depend on the structure x. Senator Algarin comments that she thinks that this would bring more attraction to this space xi. Vice President Denton comments that the idea of a solar powered structure would be nice to see xii. Chairwoman Schmidt comments that we should make it handicap accessible


xiii. Dom Lavin states that the Pride Blocks can perhaps be placed in this space as well 1. Chairwoman Tomasso comments that this would be a good spot and it would be a attraction for students xiv. VP Barkwill states that they will start working on this as soon as possible. Perhaps spring semester xv. Senator Rose asks about more handicap accessibility across North Campus xvi. Chairman Crofts asks if the lighting will be any different 1. Dom Lavin states that it will change a bit especially with some of the trees having been taken away xvii. Senator Doan asks how you will make it safer at night 1. Dom Lavin states that we can add an emergency poll here too. It's a good point 2. VP Barkwill states that there may be telephones also present and lighting for later at night. A lit walkway perhaps xviii. Secretary Nijjer asks about tree relocations 1. VP Barkwill says that some will be relocated and if not, we will plant others xix. VP Barkwill states that we have the funds to go forward so this will start as soon as possible and some changes will take place after commencement xx. Senator Caldwell asks about the bird sanctuary 1. VP Barkwill states that this is government property and we have to patrol it. It is fenced because some flooding has occurred. The decks have been destroyed so we will be rebuilding it. Until we rebuild it, it will not be open for anyone for safety reasons. 2. Dom Lavin states that in the past some classes have gone to the sanctuary and someone has met them there to assist and open it but now it needs to be replaced by recycled material with a new design because of the damage. It may be started in the upcoming weeks 3. VP Barkwill states that we are always looking for students to come and help clean it out a. President Normandin states that it could be a service option xxi. Senator Algarin asks when this will be completed 1. VP Barkwill states that we can get feedback and start working now. The concrete work will most likely be around Thanksgiving, January, and Spring Break.


xxii. VP Barkwill states that we have to first move the sculptures in the next couple of weeks from the space in front of UClub B. Public Relations presentation – Public Relations Committee i. Chairperson Labrie states that the content on Instagram is lacking 1. So this presentation is for your basic knowledge 2. First is framing. Photos should be framed symmetrically for it to be aesthetically pleasing ii. Senator Read states that posing is essential 1. Make sure that the poses are balanced iii. Senator Rielly states that camera quality is important 1. Portrait mode is your friend iv. Senator Firooz states that lighting is everything v. Senator Alameda states that backgrounds are really interesting vi. Senator Harley states that we should save the original photo to add filters 1. Never use a snapchat filter vii. Chairperson Labrie states that there should be content behind a photo viii. Senator Algarin asks if the picture can be sideways 1. Chairperson Labrie says that it can be III.

This should be a space about constructive ideas and we want to have individuals around campus come and speak to you all a. If you know about anyone who would like to talk to us, please let us know 2. New form of interpreting parliamentary procedure a. After elections, we will do some training at retreat and go over how it will work
