Student Health and Counseling Center Groups

The following groups meet in-person:

Outdoor Mindfulness Meditation* Where: Meet at the benches outside the Wellness and Campus Living Center (under the building’s canopy) When: Fridays at 11 a.m. (weather permitting) This group focuses on building the connectivity of mind, body, emotion, and surroundings through meditation. Bring a blanket, towel, or yoga mat, and wear comfortable clothing. Group will be held weather permitting. No pre-registration is required. Please arrive promptly, as this group may walk to other locations on campus. *

Social Anxiety Group

Where: Room 106 Wellness and Campus Living Center When: Thursdays at 8 p.m. This supportive group focuses on helping students understand and reduce anxiety in social situations. Learn and develop skills and strategies for becoming more comfortable in social settings. Though pre-registration is not required, room capacity will limit the number of participants. Admission is first-come, first-served. *Events and programs are contingent on public health guidelines. Visit hofstra.edu/safestart for updates.

Online Mindfulness Meditation When: Wednesdays at 2 p.m. Mindful participation is important in all parts of life. Join us to learn ways to relax and manage stress, anxiety, and other emotions by staying in the present moment.

Social Network Live When: Wednesdays at 4 p.m. Join fellow students for this social development skills group to learn better ways to start and maintain social relationships.

Recovery Group When: Wednesdays at 8 p.m. This group provides support to individuals in recovery from substance use. Learn techniques to build and maintain motivation to live an empowered, balanced life. Skills covered include coping with urges, how to change behaviors, and how to manage recovery as a student.

Coping with Bereavement When: Tuesdays at 7 p.m. This group provides support to students who have experienced a death or loss. Connect with others who share similar experiences and develop healthy coping strategies to guide you through your personal grief process.

Coping with COVID-19 When: Wednesdays at 5 p.m. This group teaches strategies to handle challenges brought on by COVID-19. Connect with others who are seeking effective ways to cope in the changing world.
