BEST OF BOTH WORLDS
At Hofstra, you’ll settle into your home away from home right away. Our 244-acre suburban campus, which is a nationally recognized arboretum, offers all the resources of a large university, but you’ll get the personal attention of a small school. Our average undergraduate class size is just 20 – and our student-to-faculty ratio is only 13-to-1. You’ll get to know your professors, and they’ll get to know you. When you’re not in class, you’ll want to take advantage of our state-of-the art facilities, including a fitness center, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, an accredited museum, six theaters, and a 10-story library. You can choose from 18 on-campus eateries, including popular places like Red Mango, Starbucks, and Au Bon Pain.
And with more than 270 student clubs and organizations – including 33 local and national fraternities and sororities – you’ll make many new friends and have plenty to do.
All that, and you’re just a short train ride from New York City! In less than an hour, you’ll find yourself in the business, cultural, and entertainment capital of the world. Prestigious internships, museums, sporting events, and Broadway shows are all at your fingertips.
You’ll be part of a community that is committed to sustainable practices. Enjoy our drinking water refill stations across campus, plant something in the Hofstra student gardens, or work with local organizations like Island Harvest and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island during student move-out at the end of each semester to donate thousands of pounds of food.
We think you’ll love it here.
Whether you’re an NCAA Division I athlete, a fitness buff, or someone who enjoys pick-up games, we’ve got something for you. The Department of Campus Recreation offers a wide variety of sports activities, fitness programs, recreational facilities, and club teams.
For our most competitive studentathletes, we offer 17 varsity sports, all of which compete at the NCAA Division I level in the Colonial Athletic Association.

From the natural sciences and mathematics to drama and dance, interdisciplinary studies, social sciences, and education, there’s much to explore at Hofstra – all while being guided by accomplished faculty who are committed to your success.

You’ll also have access to an incredible variety of stages, galleries, and studios where you can explore and enhance your talents. The school is home to the Hofstra Globe stage, the most accurate representation of the Elizabethan Globe Theater stage in the United States.

FRED DEMATTEIS SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING AND APPLIED SCIENCE Hofstra’s Fred DeMatteis School of Engineering and Applied Science teaches aspiring engineers and computer scientists to be creative and entrepreneurial. In fact, in spring 2015, the school launched the Center for Innovation, a venture in which Hofstra faculty provide technical and engineering expertise to regional businesses and research centers, thereby supporting the region’s research-based economy and providing students with valuable real-world experience.
Majors within the DeMatteis School departments of Engineering and Computer Science include biomedical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, computer engineering, and computer science and mathematics. Class sizes are small, and many courses are taught in our state-of-the-art facilities, including a robotics and advanced manufacturing lab, a cell and tissue engineering lab, and a big data lab. If you’re looking to tackle critical global challenges and make a difference in the world, this is the school for you.
The school is in its third year of a co-op program. Qualified students in their junior year are hired by participating engineering and technology firms and work on salary for a six- to eight-month period, which gives them resume-building professional experience.
LAW AND MEDICINE If you think your future involves either law or medicine, Hofstra is the place for you.
Graduates of the Maurice A. Deane School of Law are known for their preparedness, knowledge, and poise. Students in the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/ Northwell benefit from our partnership with Northwell Health — one of the 20 largest health systems in the nation. And in fall 2015, the University launched the Hofstra Northwell School of Graduate Nursing and Physician Assistant Studies to meet the increasing need for nurse practitioners and physician assistants to deliver community-based health care. The school offers a freshman direct-entry BS/MS in Physician Assistant Studies program. But even if your interests lie in other academic fields, having a medical school, nursing school, and law school right on campus brings many additional benefits and opportunities — like access to a wider variety of libraries, faculty, speakers, events, labs, and research. This truly interdisciplinary approach is what makes the Hofstra experience so valuable and so enriching.
