Johan Ahr (Johan.Ahr@hofstra.edu) teaches on modern Germany and on genocide in the 20th century; he has taught classes on the history of Rwanda and on the Holocaust. Sally Charnow (Sally.Charnow@hofstra.edu) is a historian of modern France and author of Theatre, Politics and Markets in fin-de-siècle Paris: Staging Modernity (2005). Her current research project focuses on the French Jewish writer Edmond Fleg and the multifaceted cultural milieu of inter-war Paris. Simon Doubleday (Simon.R.Doubleday@hofstra.edu), specializes in medieval Spain and teaches on the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. His books include The Wise King: A Christian Prince, Muslim Spain, and the Birth of the Renaissance (2015). Carolyn Eisenberg (Carolyn.Eisenberg@hofstra.edu) specializes in American history from 1945 to the present, and in particular U.S. foreign policy. She is the author of Drawing the Line: The American Decision to Divide Germany, 1944-1949 and is writing a book on the national security policy of Richard Nixon and Henry Kissinger. Brenda Elsey (Brenda.Elsey@hofstra.edu) studies the history of popular culture and politics in 20th century Latin America, in addition to gender, social theory and Pan-Americanism. She is a recent Fulbright grant recipient and the author of Citizens and Sportsmen: Fútbol and Politics in Twentieth-Century Chile and has covered Brazil’s women’s soccer team for Sports Illustrated. Michael Galgano (Michael.J.Galgano@hofstra.edu) teaches American history, politics, and government; his main area of expertise is American presidential biography. John Munz (John.F.Munz@hofstra.edu) focuses primarily on cultural and political resistance to race, class and gender oppression in modern America.

Stanislao Pugliese (Stanislao.G.Pugliese@hofstra.edu) teaches Italian and Italian-American studies, covering Italian fascism and antifascism, the Holocaust, Italian-American history and culture, and the history of Italian Jews. He is the author, editor or translator of over a dozen books; at Hofstra he has been director or co-director for conferences on Primo Levi, Italian studies, Naples, soccer and Frank Sinatra. Mario Ruiz (Mario.Ruiz@hofstra.edu) specializes in the history of 19th- and 20th-century Egypt and teaches a wide range of courses relating to the Middle East and its complex relationship with the “West,” as well as a class on New York City before and after 9/11. Katrina Sims (Katrina.Sims@hofstra.edu) specializes in twentiethcentury African-American history, and offers a wide variety of courses in the history of the US. She studies health care through a gendered and racial lens. John Staudt (John.G.Staudt@Hofstra.edu) teaches American history from the colonial period through World War II, and researches the local history of New York and Long Island. He serves on the board of the Theodore Roosevelt Association, and is academic director of National History Day at Hofstra University. Yuki Terazawa (Yuki.Terazawa@hofstra.edu) teaches Asian and Asian-American history. Her research interests include the history of medicine of Japan and East Asian women’s history. She has organized events at Hofstra on cases of sexual violence committed by the Japanese Army in China during the Asia-Pacific War and the redress movement for Chinese rape survivors.
