Welcome MESSAGE GOULBURN MULWAREE COUNCIL
Rockhampton Regional Council is a proud sponsor of Hockey Australia Country Championships for 2025, and it’s great to have worked with Hockey Australia to bring this event to our region. We’re absolutely thrilled to host you.
The thing about Rockhampton is, we love visitors. We’re incredibly proud of our region and always happy to recommend places to explore, experiences to enjoy, and local favourites to discover. Whether you’re here to compete, coach or cheer from the sidelines, we hope you take some time to soak up everything Rocky has to offer.
To the coaches, officials, families and players, thank you for making the journey and best of luck throughout the competition. To have reached this level of competition is an achievement in itself and I know the many months and years of games, training and fine tuning that has gone into getting here. I expect we’ll see some great games and stellar competition and I’m looking forward to spending some time just enjoying that.
If you get the chance, I encourage you to venture out and enjoy our beautiful region. A visit to our stunning Botanic Gardens and Zoo is a must, especially to meet our fan favourite meerkats and chimpanzees. You can even book an encounter and get up close and personal with them.
For a scenic escape, take a drive up to Mount Archer (Nurim) National Park. The elevated boardwalk offers breathtaking views, especially at sunset. If you’re after a cultural experience, the Rockhampton Museum of Art is one to take some time to explore at our Riverside Precinct. It’s the largest gallery in regional Queensland and an absolute must-see. What I love is that ‘Rocky’ is known for its hospitality and ease, and I’m sure you’ll meet plenty of friendly faces during your stay. So, on behalf of Council and the residents of the Rockhampton Region, I welcome you to our region and wish you all the best. I really hope you enjoy every moment.
Tony Williams Major of Rockhampton
Welcome MESSAGE HOCKEY AUSTRALIA
On behalf of Hockey Australia, I’m delighted to welcome you to the 2025 Country Championships, proudly being held in Rockhampton, Queensland, for the very first time.
This is a truly special event on our calendar, uniting athletes from regional and rural areas across every state and territory, along with our dedicated men’s and women’s Australian Defence Force teams.
The Country Championships are about more than just the fierce competition on the pitch; they represent the spirit of camaraderie, pride, and passion that defines country hockey across Australia.
We are especially thrilled to bring this year’s Championships to Rockhampton, a city with a proud hockey legacy and the hometown of Australian hockey royalty in Jamie Dwyer and Mark Knowles. Jamie and Knowlesy’s excitement at seeing this event played out on home turf is shared by many in the community, and we know the Rockhampton crowd will turn out in full force to support our players.
The ability to host an event of this calibre is a testament to the significant upgrades made to Rockhampton Hockey’s facilities. These enhancements have elevated the venue to a national standard, and we extend our sincere thanks to everyone who played a part, especially the Rockhampton Regional Council and Hockey Queensland, and the Australian Defence Force, who are the official hosts of the Country Championships for 2025.
As a sport, we want to acknowledge and celebrate our heroes, and this goes beyond the players on the pitch. I want to give a shout-out to the umpires, officials and volunteers for their involvement and expertise in ensuring this event runs as smoothly as possible. Our sport would not happen without them, so I thank each of them for the integral role they play.
To all athletes, coaches, officials, and supporters, I wish you a fun, competitive, and safe tournament, filled with memorable moments both on and off the field.
I know it’s a full hockey schedule with plenty of action on the pitch, but I encourage you to make the most of the wonderful ‘Rocky’ hospitality and everything the region has to offer during your stay.
