ANALYSIS: A story shared widely online along with a composite picture purports to show the before & now pictures of Conjoined Twins Separated by U.S. Republican Presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson back in 1987. It is a fact that Dr. Ben Carson separated the heads of conjoined twins in 1987, but shown in the picture are not them, or their grown up versions.

ABOUT THE FAMOUS SURGERY TO SEPARATE CONJOINED TWINS Dr. Ben Carson became popular in 1987 for being the lead neurosurgeon of a 70-member surgical teamthat separated conjoined twins Patrick and Benjamin Binder (born February 2, 1987) , who were joint at the back of the head. The separation surgery took place for 22-hour at Johns Hopkins Hospital (Maryland, United States) on 7 September 1987 when the twins were seven-months-old. Although the operation to separate the conjoined twins Patrick and Benjamin Binder was successful, the aftermath was complicated. Seven months after the surgery, the boys moved back to Germany with their parents and did not grow up well. A November 2015 article on The Washington Post website washingtonpost.com mentioned the boys' mother Theresia’s brother Peter Parlagi saying Patrick Binder died sometime in the previous decade. And Benjamin Binder who was 28 then could still not speak.

The story about the picture became popular in early 2016, as it was even featured in a March 2016 article of Daily mail website dailymail.com.ng. But fact of the matter being, both the pictures of conjoined twins and that of grown up boys are not related to the famous surgery of Dr. Ben Carson in 1987.
