The Histor y Histor y of the Chapman-Kincaid-Hunt House Gr iffin, Georg ia Built in 1854 by W. W. Chapman on the corner of Poplar and Eighth Streets.

Later, the home was purchased by Captain W. J. Kincaid, and it was he who refashioned the house from its original Italianate style to the Beaux Arts Greek Revival style.

Captain Kincaid’s daughter, Ms. Addie, inherited the home from her father and reared her four children. After Ms. Addie’s death in the late 1950s, the house was purchased by the First Baptist Church of Griffin which owned the adjacent property on Poplar and Eighth Streets. The Church used the home for Sunday School Classes as well as a site for small weddings and funerals.

In 1978, the Church decided to tear down the home in order to build their proposed Family Life Center at Poplar and 8th. Distressed at the thought of losing such a treasure, Griffin physician Dr. Grady Duke and his wife, Jean, offered to save the house by moving it from its Poplar and 8th location to a new site on North Pine Hill Road.

The Duke family resided in the house at its new location until they sold the property in 1986 to Bob and Nell Watt who were from Atlanta. The Watts used the house as a summer home and a place to entertain their golf playing guests.

In April of 2013, Sandra and Rusty Slider bought the home and are the current owners.
