David Leadbetter Promotes Indoor Golf in HK
David Leadbetter, known as the godfather of modern golf, made a brief but memorable stop in Hong Kong as part of his tour in China to promote golf. Leadbetter promoted the benefits of indoor golf and demonstrated “The A-Swing” at an exclusive event held by The ONE Golf Club (TOGC), the one and only Hong Kong indoor golf academy with A-Swing Certified Instructor. Taking place at TOGC in Kwun Tong, the event aims to promote the club’s Community Golf Project. The project looks for vacant spaces in communities and turns them into an indoor golf environment. Leadbetter demonstrated
his A-Swing during the event. HKGA junior squad member Arianna Lau showed off her textbook swing in the state-of-the-art simulator, and was rewarded with an autographed “The A Swing” book by Leadbetter. Stay tuned for our Final Shot with Leadbetter on page 78, who will talk about his favourite player, best pupil and coaching.
Jang Chel Hoo Wins in Playoff at Shek O The 2016 HKPGA Order of Merit - 4th Leg (Open Division) had to be shortened from 36-hole stroke play to only 27 holes due to inclement weather. The first day of the tournament had already been delayed by heavy rain and strong wind signal No.3. But James Stewart, winner in 2015 and Jang Chel Hoo still performed outstandingly and both finished with 67 in the first round, while Brad Schadewitz and Nathan Goulding were tied for third place with fine 68s. The tournament committee decided to shorten the second round into just 9 holes as the weather deteriorated even more. As Schadewitz (68,34) and Jang (67,35) both finished with a total score of 102, a sudden-death playoff commenced with Jang emerging as the winner on the first extra hole. James Stewart finished alone in third two shots back with 104 (67,37).
