HM- What inspired your latest album?
Back in December 2023, I was dealing with severe depression and anxiety. I’ve been at this mental state before, so I was ready to escape it. I decided to drive down Highway 1, the scenic route going towards Los Angeles, and I began to pray for peace and inspiration 10 minutes after my prayer around 5 AM, I looked up at the sky and saw a bright blue shooting star pass by slowly The entire sky was filled with its bright blue aura and was a magical sight. During this time, I was listening to The Weekend’s single “Take My Breathe” and I was inspired to write my new single “Bright Blue Shooting Star.” I used all my negative energy and turned it into love and positivity, and when creating the single, I felt my happiest and began to be liberated from my depression and anxiety
NM- Can you tell us about your creative process when writing new music?
I use current personal experiences when writing a new song Once I have a story to tell, then I begin to figure out the right chord progressions to color the story and give it emotional depth with the combination of instruments and rhythmic patterns used. After creating the music foundation, I began to write my lyrics. My main objective is for people to feel my emotions when I sing.
HM- What has been the most memorable moment of your music career so far?
HM- Who are some of your musical influences and how have they impacted your sound?
The Weeknd’s album “Dawn FM” plays a huge role in the process of composing the instrumentation of “Bright Blue Shooting Star ” I look up to Kanye West as a producer, so I made sure to incorporate some powerful 808 beats and bass, similar to “Fade” from his “The Life Of Pablo” album. Nicki Minaj recently dropped her “Pink Friday 2” album during the time I was composing my song and when I heard her collaboration with Drake’s “Needle” piece, I wanted to recreate that dancehall and Afrobeats feel during the hook section Finally, after some research, I discovered that Jersey Club type beat is trending, so I added that rhythm with a combination of Usher’s “OMG” influences in my bridge section when I sing “Tonight we let go ”
The most memorable moment in my music career was being able to raise over $2,000 during a college event I organized called “The Michigan Phenom Show” in 2014 and donated all that money to a child who was dealing with bone cancer at the age of 10 He had a successful surgery and is now cancer-free I want to do positive work with music by uplifting people to follow their dreams, fight their personal demons, and do community service Music is like a superpower and I want to use it for good work in this lifetime.
HM- How do you handle the pressures of fame and success in the music industry?
I am working my way towards being recognized on a global scale within the music industry However, when I have random people approach me in the Bay Area, I am extremely humbled by the positive feedback I receive Despite facing some envious and jealous people, I pray to God to keep me grounded and focused on my goals Moving up in life comes with obstacles, but this is the life I know I can handle graph text
HM- What advice would you give to aspiring musicians trying to break into the industry?
Don’t give up. Even when you don’t see any results happening for several months or years, if you really want to make it in the music industry, you need to keep your head held high and push forward. Also, your network is your networth. Get out there and network as much as possible with random people
Don’t shy away from showing them all the hard work you put into your music It only takes the right pair of ears to gain a new supporter and potentially a lead to someone who works within the music industry.
HM- Can you share a behind-the-scenes anecdote from one of your music videos?
When creating a music video, I first envision the theme and message I want to portray. I then research on Instagram who would be the right videographer for my video. Due to networking a lot, I was able to film a music video at a nightclub for free in San Francisco I wanted to make sure it was an epic night and began to reach out to multiple people to fill up the club, which gave energy to my music video for “Echo ” There’s a lot of organization that goes behind shooting a music video, but also a lot of improvisation Sometimes your key players don’t show up to the shoot, so you have to learn how to adapt quickly and brainstorm new ideas for specific scenes.
HM- How do you stay connected with your fans and maintain a strong fan base?
I make sure to reply back to all my comments I receive on my posts, I personally thank my fans via social media, and lastly I would give undivided attention to anyone who comes up to me in person and wants to talk I always encourage my supporters to follow their passions as well I want all of us to win
HM- What can fans expect from your upcoming tour or live performances?
I will be performing for a few summer festivals called 626 Night Market at the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton from May 17-19 and July 26-28. I also have an upcoming show with The Next Bay Area Runway Season III which will be announced soon in the summertime
HM- What are your future goals and aspirations as a music artist?
My goal I’ve had since a child is for more people to know me, listen to my music, connect with my message, and continue to perform at new venues around the world. Being an independent artist is not easy, but hopefully finding the right management and team will help me take my music career to a whole new level.

HM -How did you first become interested in becoming a DJ?
I first became involved with records and music at 5 years old. My Birth Mother and Dad threw Bid Whist parties in the basement and our entire family and block was there every weekend I loved the comrade and how the melodies bonded them together I was hooked Thar same Christmas, my Father bought me my first crate of records and turntables I can only imagine how many home stereos I destroyed practicing blending and scratching bwahahaha!
Can you describe your unique style or sound when it comes to DJing?
My unique style of djing is high energy and a lot of blended transitions to the next record. Chicago is known for and is The birthplace of House Music. So a lot of DJs incorporate a lot of blends and unique personalized drops to distinguish themselves apart My wife nicknamed me "The Total Package " because I MC (rap), dj all genres of music open format style, produce, and I am an Executive VP of A&R for Ugtvdistro through Ingrooves/Universal Records headed by Wally Lockard III Also I am s Violator All Star DJ, management headed by Dave and Mike Lighty and DJ Coalition headed by DJ ScrapDirty.
HM -What types of music do you enjoy playing the most when you're performing?
If I had to pick a favorite genre of music that I love playing, it would have to be Renaissance Old School 90s Hip Hop.For those that weren't alive during that Era, you had to be there The vibes during 1991-1998 was infectious. Everyone was putting out great music and I was running around like a chicken with his head cut off m recording my personal songs and releasing albums, hosting a video show and djing Some of my best performances was during that Era, but hey I have a lot more dj energy that needs to get out only time will tell
HM -How do you keep the energy up and the crowd engaged during your sets?
How I keep the energy up during the course of a set depends on the flow of the party, the audience and time. You don't want to Play Sexxy Redd, Chief Keef and Lil Durk at 9'0 clock pm at a younger event You have to set your audience up with the excitement and build up Then around 11 pm you wanna pick up the pace a little bit and then by Midnight when the fashionably late guests arrive go for the kill with short breaks to keep the bar flowing It's a science I actually teach a class to kids on how to dj, you'd be surprised how they pick up the science and art
HM -What equipment and software do you use to create your mixes and remixes?
The current controller that I use is the DDJ 1000 Pioneer for Rekordbox.Quick story, when I went to the store to buy my controller, I had my heart set on getting the SRT 1000 For Serato. The store was sold out at the the time and the salesman was dead set on unloading these Rekordbox units I told him I would take a Rekordbox under the condition if I didn't Ike it I could trade for the SRT Well I never heard from him again and I ended up falling in love with Rekordbox The software is great for organizing and categorizing music Ironically,Pioneer bought out Serato
HM -Can you share one of your favorite memories from a performance or event you DJed at?
There's so many memories but one of my favorite moments of all time was when I was in college (Southern Illinois University at Carbondale) and I was spinning a student party for the entire campus I was playing AMG Vertical Joyride and cueing my next record Das Efx. They Want Efx Any Old School head knows there's a slight break in Vertical Joyride where AMG is barely audible and it sounds like he's smoking So right at the break of Vertical Joyride, I brought in the intro to They Want Efx and then when AMG started back rhyming and his beat dropped again I brought Vertical Joyride back over. The crowd LOST THEIR MIND. Keep in mind, this is the Midwest 1991 where hip hop is just starting to catch wind because of the House Scene. What a night!!!

HM- How did you first become interested in DJing and music production?
I became interested in DJing naturally. I’ve always been into computers and technology. I’ve always had a passion for music but the idea came to me to further my knowledge into DJing by me messing around with DJ manipulating software and playing around in my free time for fun.
HM- What is your creative process like when you produce a new track or remix?
My Process is very straightforward and creative Its fully based off free flowing vibes and timing I’m very passionate about my craft and im also a perfectionist!
HM- How do you keep up with the latest music trends and incorporate them into your sets? Well i stay hip because I’m in what i would like to call “the loop” and i network with alot of artists (independent and major artists) and i get many of exclusives sent my way as well as hard drive music like unreleased songs plus im involved in a major dj coalition which has me in record pools.
HM- Can you share a memorable experience from a past performance or gig?
Yes! I remember back when i first met Young Thug and Djayed for his whole Label Family at a venue sponsored by Future. It was a very enjoyable experience and the vibes were amazing like no other. These two Artists really set the tone and I look up to them in the music world and they really are all about setting the bar high! The venue I Djayed at was like a huge club / event center and it had swimming pools inside the Vip area I’d have to say i’ve never in my whole career Djayed an event beyond this level of amazing atmosphere ! This really set the tone for me and truly helped me understand the meaning of living out my dreams and the power of relationships and networking like no other Major props to those artists and Free Young Thug !
HM- What are some of the biggest challenges you face as a DJ, and how do you overcome them?
One thing for sure is timing I have a hard time with last minute decisions and events that i dont have much time to plan ahead for so I usually freestyle alot in my live dj sets & sessions I also have stage fear which i’ve over came by rocking so many shows in front of huge crowds full of people and celebs all while sometimes using shades ! I have a hard time being more vocal which is why mostly i have hosts or mcs on the mic to help me with my stage fear while also making it seem more comfortable for me to be able to fully focus on more important things like mixing and blending songs on the 1’s & 2’s !
HM- How do you stay inspired and motivated to continue producing and performing?
God I cannot begin to even explain where i would be if it wasn’t for the big man above walking with me every step of the way ! My family also keeps me inspired and motivated as well because i truly know deep down they believe in me and support my craft and success.
Last but not least , The Music ! It lives through me , and it is such a joy and passion for me to share it with others and be able to manipulate songs and mix down sets all while blessing everyones ears !
HM- How do you interact with your audience and keep the energy high during your sets?
I use many interactions at my shows such as the types of levels of music like for example i will go off the crowds vibe and get them in the mood by dropping a few hit songs here and there that are very popular then , i will up the music into turn up songs that make everyone want to dance and more and i have like a peak level of turn up songs i like to use that are well known that i will also follow up with which thereafter i just keep the crowd going and entertained. Eventually I mellow everything out with like some smooth RnB , chill type music. I also interact by using many Dj drops and effects that i have, some of which are made by celebs personally which hype the crowd when they are heard and my transitions i use keep them in awe
HM- What are your future goals and aspirations as a DJ and music producer?
One of my main goals is to just keep my interest and focus going with Djaying and moving forward remaining successful and staying booked up . All while keeping God first ! I also want to keep advancing my networking skills to the next level and meeting more celebs all while building bigger connections and business opportunities and partnerships. One more last thing I also want to be able to DJ live at the Rolling Loud Festival I know the crowd will Love Me !

HM- How do you keep up with the latest music trends and incorporate them into your sets?

For me, my biggest challenge is keeping up with all the new updates as far as laptops, controllers, etc. This could be a real headache if your equipment programs aren't updated correctly
HM- How do you stay inspired and motivated to continue producing and performing?
My motivation and inspiration have always come from watching other djs who are better than I am, remember iron sharpens iron.
HM- Can you describe your favorite venue or event where you've performed and what made it special? One of my favorite events, me and my homeboy DJ Regg1210 did at an apartment complex party room It was so live People were yelling out of their cars windows when they left, The roof, The roof, The roof is on fire I will never forget that Dope

HM -What advice do you have for aspiring electronic pop artists looking to break into the music industry?
Take the time to enjoy the music you make Experimental artists often have a difficult time carving a niche for themselves, so you have to really love what you’re doing to keep pushing the boundaries
HM -How would you describe your unique sound in the electronic pop music genre?
In a review of my new album, IMDØNE, my sound has been defined as a blend between Linkin Park and Eminem That being said, I draw the most inspiration for creativity from different types of indie game music.
HM -What inspired you to pursue a career in electronic pop music?
To put it simply, I wanted to break the rules of music and create something that genuinely hasn’t been heard before Pushing the boundaries of music is often my biggest motivator
HM -Are there any specific themes or messages that you try to convey through your music?
Most of my tracks are meant to have some core theme wrapped around them that allows me to almost personify the melody by adding a secondary harmony using my vocals. Although that is a challenge, I typically view it as writing poetry.
HM -How do you approach the creative process when designing your electronic beats and melodies?
I have 4 ways I start when writing a song I start with the bass, chorus, vocal harmony, or arpeggios. The reason for this is because they are what design the overall atmosphere of your track, and when harnessed it can envelop the listener into a brand new universe of music.
HM -Can you discuss any collaborations you have done with other artists in the electronic pop scene?
At the moment, I don’t have any recent collaborations that involve me featuring an artist or being featured That being said, however, I try to keep my community of fellow artists and producers in my close inner circle while mixing my music to always get new opinions. This all being said, I am open to working with other artists
HM -What has been the biggest challenge you have faced as an electronic pop artist in the industry?
Finding playlist and curators who are able to help support an experimental musician tends to be difficult from time to time, but there’s always another person who has the resources available to help Another thing is keeping up with trends and trying to stay relevant, but as long as you’re enjoying what you’re doing, it doesn’t tend to slow you down
HM-What was the inspiration behind your latest album and what message do you hope to convey to your listeners? The Inspiration behind my last Album "Resilient" was being in a dark place. I was all over the place emotionally while my mom was dying from Cancer. A lot of the songs on that project was personal and a projection of the dark place that I was in and I wanted my mom to hear something that she could be proud of before she passed.
HM - How has your background and personal experiences influenced your music and lyrics?
Everything that I write comes from personal experiences from my background all the way from my childhood up to the present day So, I'd say that it has a major impact on my music, from the lyrics to the beats to the vibes it produces.
HM - Who are some of your biggest musical influences and how have they shaped your style as an artist? As far as mainstream goes, I'd say that my biggest influences would have to be, Master P, 2Pac, Jay-Z, Nas, 3-6 Mafia and aloy of other artists that i grew up on in past time, but today Im influenced by Artists like Juice World, 6Lack, and a lot of other artists from different Genres I'm a fan of alot of different types of music and genres
HM - Can you talk about any collaborations on your new album and how they came about?
I don't have too many collaborations, I usually live solo, but I did a collaboration with G-Money, which is my homeboy that came up in the same projects that I grew up in. The song was called "Trust the process" it was a different lane from what I've been doing, but it turned out to be a local hit. It's crazy because we met up at a club and he was like, we need to collaborate on something, so I set up the session the next day and we went to the studio and made the song from scratch in less than 2 hours, we had a full song that was mixed down and everything That was definitely one of my best collaborations tho

Honestly, I write songs that are based on my truth. I can’t write about something that I can’t relate to. As far as creating a unique sound goes, my answer would have to be the same. I write based on what I feel, but I’m open to other sounds and thought processes.
HM - What do you think sets neo-soul and smooth jazz apart from other genres of music?
I think that smooth jazz and neo-soul are soothing to the soul. HM - Can you tell us about your latest album and the inspiration behind it?
I tend to write songs about the different aspects of relationships. I believe that there are no wasted experiences and lessons learned whether good or bad can be shared through music. HM - How do you see the future of neo-soul and smooth jazz evolving in the music industry?
I believe that as with all things, music will continue to evolve. The sound may change, but the general feel of the music will always remain constant That’s what sets both genres apart from others.

I love seeing people vibe to my music, relate to the lyrics, and see the crowd get involved in my performance

I stay connected through social media Also, live written and live interviews help I love talking to people and I think that I connect well with them when I do.
HM - Can you share any behind-the-scenes stories from the making of one of your most popular songs?
I’ll share some behind details about my latest song, “Back to Love ” I came up with the bass line months before anything else for the song was created I woke up in the middle of the night hearing the bass line I didn’t think that it would amount to much of anything but it kept coming to me in my sleep That’s when I recorded it Then, a horn line came but it still hadn’t clicked that both lines belonged together Eventually, I realized that they did and sat down with one of my producers, Hannon Lane. That’s when the magic happened. The song, although simple, grew legs and became what is now known as “Back to Love.”
HM - What advice do you have for aspiring neosoul/smooth jazz artists looking to make their mark in the industry?
My advice would be to stand on who you are It’s wonderful to work with other people and expand your mind to other styles of music you may not have ever considered merging with But, ultimately, you have to remember what makes you you People are looking for that special element.

HM-What inspired you to pursue a career in rap music? I was a freshman in high school and was too small to play football I wanted to be cool, popular, and of course get girls. I remember seeing this kid the same size as me freestyling during lunch and the whole cafeteria was tuned in I said I wanted that kind of attention, so I started freestyling with the Juniors
HM-Can you tell us about your creative process when writing and producing new songs?
I started out making beats before I started writing rhymes. I would write these bubble gum raps that held no weight.I got locked up for a year and I was writing thinking how could I get these hardcore Gangstas to listen, so I started writing about real street shit But I like to talk big shit too That Fly Shit so i went from there and wrote the Shotcaller Freestyle
HM-How do you stay current and relevant in the everevolving rap music industry?
I can adapt to any beat and or type of rap I will say that the new Era is not my style but as long as the Lyrics and Bars are hard and make sense, it doesn’t matter what lane you’re in, they people will love any style you got.
HM-Who are some of your biggest musical influences and how have they impacted your style?

HM-Can you share the story behind one of your most popular songs?
Dreams was written and produced by me. I was just learning how to sample, and my brother loved Dreams to remember by Otis Redding, so I started with that sample. After that I added the drums and Piano and added Biggies it was all a dream for the finishing touch. As I said before I was locked up doing a year and I was talking about how big I could have been and started writing about it and when I got home, I recorded it
HM-What do you think sets your music apart from other artists in the industry?
I am a Whole Label Starving Artist Ent or Star Ent for short I make Beats. I write songs. I am an engineer and I have the Ear for talent and producing. I don’t settle for metiocre.
HM-How important is the role of social media and online platforms in promoting your music and connecting with fans?
Honestly, this is the era where you can be the nicest most creative talent artist, but if you aren’t got followers and you Image is not popping you got problems Nowadays people want to see you before you get the deal Back in the Day, your t would get signed, and the label would market you Now you have to build your brand and create a buzz on social media to get noticed I am not the most viewed artist and don’t have a lot of street Cred but I’m Ten toes down and I’m a Certified, Bonafide and Solidified G in these Streets. I stand on my name and can back My music up
HM-What are some of the biggest challenges you've faced in your career, and how have you overcome them?
I’ve Had to deal with Life on Life’s terms meaning that I had to go thru the life of Addiction and fight to Recover...So as good as my music is. I was not handling my Biz like I Should have. I would write dope songs, but I would struggle at times and couldn’t perform or promote because I Was slipping. The drugs had a grip on me, and I fell off hard and brike thru Rock Bottom. But as I always Believed and Always say to the world " Told em I was a Star, now they Finally believe Me I’m Back from the Depths of Hell and got My mind right and that monkey off my back. So, nothing can beat me Nothing
HM-What advice would you give to aspiring rap artists looking to break into the industry? It’s not for the Weak, It’s Not a Hobby, Its Survival of the Fittest so when you write make sure it’s the best of the Best.
I have a saying The Realest in the Room basically meaning that in a room full of artist (and there are a lot of Good Artist nowadays, Even more garbage one too) be that one. I don’t walk into any studio, stage or Cypher thinking Damn I hope I can keep up. More like I hope I don’t break someone’s spirit cause once I start nobody wants to go after me.
HM-What can fans expect from you in terms of new music and upcoming projects?
I had to do some soul searching and walk away from some people and basically close the door on my old Life It was hard to walk away from what I thought was the Dream Team, but in the end I could not sit around anymore waiting for them to get off their asses and truth be told, I have a lot of pain and resentment and anger due to it so I’m aiming at heads this go round Its Drag Season and I have no Heart for anyone in my way I have a new passion Get this Money! Fuck you Pay Me!

HM - What inspired you to become a DJ?
I didn’t really choose to be a DJ, my soul was programmed to love music from the start. I’ve been involved in something musical for as long as I can remember. Guitar lessons, piano lessons, vocal classes, junior & senior choir, played around with music production when I was younger too but I actually always wanted to be a singer My love for music somehow led me here!
HM - Can you tell us about your journey to becoming a successful DJ?
I started out in a very small pub that my ex and I helped turn into a club, it was next to the university so there were loads of students there. The owner gave me an opportunity to DJ and then somehow we blew the place up! It was crazy, some nights had over 1000 people roaming around.
HM - What sets your DJ style apart from others in the industry?
I know that everyone thinks it’s best to stick to one genre of music, but I have love for so many that I could only play one I think what sets me apart is the fact that I play hip hop and rnb but without the use of serato or any DJ software I just use my hands & ears.
HM - How do you approach creating a setlist for a live performance or a radio show?
For a live show I don’t usually prepare, unless it’s a pretty big event. I usually just carry around all of my usbs where I loads of different types of music put into already made playlists for example “ Opening house music” , “ Main set “ , “ sing alongs “ and then just wing it from there based on reading the crowd If it’s a radio show , I usually prepare a tracklist on rekordbox and then record a live mix to submit
HM - What is your favorite part about being a DJ?
The fact that you get to make people happy and forget about their problems for a little while. I love the fact that music connects people, it doesn’t matter who you are or where you are from. Music is universal.
HM - Can you tell us about any upcoming projects or collaborations you are working on?
For now you’re just going to have to follow me to find out more! Atlanta dj
HM - What inspired you to become a DJ?
The love of music inspired me to become a DJ.
HM - Can you tell us about your journey to be becoming a successful DJ?
It's been some up and down with a few bumps along the road, but I made It It took hard work, long days and nights finding songs that mix and blend well. I had to find my DJ voice and learn what makes a great DJ not just a good DJ. I try to play what the folks want, not what I like. Believe It or not being a Wedding DJ taught me a lot. I learn to read the crowd and I learn different types of music The main key Is never give up and practice, practice and more practice
HM - What sets your DJ style apart from others in the industry?
What sets me apart from other DJ's Is I'm willing to learn and put in that hard work I'm here to make the crowd happy, not myself. I can think back to when I was at a party and ask a DJ to play a song and he never did. That made me hate that DJ real talk. So, I make It my business to play every song request.
HM - How do you approach creating a setlist for a live performance or a radio show?
When It come to the set list I go off what the vibe will be like If It's crunk i go crunk just depends.
HM - How do you stay current with new music and trends in the industry?
I speak with other DJ's and YouTube things like that to stay current on music. I also have my Nephew Jowan to help on that part.
As the world of music continues to evolve, so too does the ever-changing landscape of metal, rock, and punk music. With new bands emerging, classic bands reuniting, and groundbreaking albums being released, there is never a dull moment in the world of heavy music
One of the most exciting developments in the metal scene is the resurgence of classic bands making a comeback. Bands like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and Slayer have all announced new albums and tours in recent years, much to the delight of their loyal fanbase. These bands continue to prove that they still have what it takes to rock the stage and create new, exciting music
On the other end of the spectrum, there is a wave of exciting new bands breaking onto the scene and making a name for themselves. Bands like Greta Van Fleet, Ghost, and Power Trip are bringing a fresh new sound to the metal and rock genres, drawing in new fans and garnering critical acclaim These bands are proving that rock music is not dead, but rather thriving and evolving in new and exciting ways
In the world of punk, there is a similar wave of new bands pushing the boundaries and creating a stir. Bands like IDLES, PUP, and Turnstile are injecting new life into the punk scene with their raw energy, honest lyrics, and innovative sound These bands are carrying on the tradition of punk music while also pushing the genre forward into new territory
In addition to the new bands making waves in the metal, rock, and punk scenes, there are also many exciting new albums being released by established artists. Bands like Tool, Slipknot, and Rammstein have all released highly anticipated albums in recent years, further solidifying their status as legends in the world of heavy music
Overall, the world of metal, rock, and punk music continues to be a vibrant and exciting place, with new bands, classic bands, and groundbreaking albums all contributing to the rich tapestry of sound Whether you're a fan of old school metal, modern rock, or classic punk, there is something for everyone in the ever-evolving world of heavy music

Brett -- Hello, Hit Makerz! Thank you so much for talking about Metal Mastication.
HM – How did you first get started in the world of podcasting?
Brett – I follow Metal Hall of Fame bass player Billy Sheehan on Facebook. He often posts cooking videos online when he is home in between tours. I know how to cook, so I started asking him questions about meal prep, technique, and ingredients. He started responding! I cover metal for Heart of Hollywood Magazine and began to daydream about interviewing Billy while we cooked something up
A few months later I was in the home of Metal Hall of Fame bassist of Impellitteri James Pulli to conduct a sit down interview with him and Chris Impellitteri for Heart of Hollywood Magazine As I entered, James' wife Angela was preparing food for our mutual friend Giles Lavery. The kitchen was open, and the stove top was front and center. It was just perfect for filming. I mentioned this under my breath and James heard me and asked, "Perfect for what?" I explained my idea of a heavy metal interview show set in the kitchen to him, and he was all in from the get-go It was the easiest sales pitch since Noah bought lumber He was our first guest and is onboard as Associate Producer
HM – What drew you to the medium of podcasting as a way to connect with your audience?
Brett – There is not a show out there remotely like this, but there is no money in metal per se. It is a very niche audience and the easiest way to connect with the metal community is through social media. Some metal groups I'm in have over 100K members.
HM – Can you share a bit about your podcasting journey and how it has evolved over time?
Brett – Our journey is just beginning! We have shot four episodes; however, we lost one – it's heavy metal; blame Satan ;) Our first episode with James Pulli has been out for a few months now, and our second episode is with Shawn Duncan, drummer of L A Guns, Odin, supergroup Social Disorder, DC4, Bulletboys, and Killer Bee I was promised will be finished and out tonight (March 13,2024). We are getting smoother and better with each episode. I try to channel Johnny Carson with a little bit of Howard Stern mixed in for humor each time and I think I'm becoming more confident in front of the camera.
FollowonFacebook.com/MetalMastication .instagram.com/metal_mastication/phtext
humorous tone Plus, the audience sees their favorite musician doing something we all do It makes them more human. Optimistically, that should keep people coming back for each episode.
HM – What have been some of the biggest challenges you've faced as a podcast host and how have you overcome them?
Brett – The biggest one has been scheduling issues. Have you ever tried to nail a paid musician down for anything other than a gig? I'm tellin' ya, man. Their schedules are whacked. If they are not on the road, they are in the studio I feel for their families. I try to overcome them by reaching out to multiple musicians at once You know, c y a, man C Y A
HM – Can you share a memorable moment or experience from your time as a podcast host?
Brett -- Right now, I would say shooting the first one As the camera was rolling, I was fanboying out in my head! I couldn't believe it was happening I was standing in James Pulli's home, talking to him and making his famous Goodfellas lasagna! I am a fan first, and every time a prospective guest texts me, I scream to my wife, "O.M.G., honey! So and So just texted me! They want to do the show!"
HM – How do you stay current and informed on industry trends and developments in the podcasting world?
Brett – I don't. That's not my focus. The Heavy Metal world is, and to that end, I am active in a lot of metal communities across social media I also read a lot of metal mags to stay current on what band is doing what or who parted ways I don't want to step on any landmines during an interview That would suck.
HM – What advice do you have for aspiring podcast hosts looking to enter the industry?
Brett – Be original Find a niche and run with it Never look back and never give up And to quote the Bard, "This above all To thine own self be true "
HM – What can viewers expect from future episodes?
Brett – More metal, more fun, more good eats and something is bound to burst into flames eventually -- it's heavy metal in the kitchen!
HM – Thank you so much for your time and candid answers! I'm sure everyone looks forward to your next episode with Shawn Duncan, which will hit the pod waves this evening Best of luck!
Brett – Thank you, Sean. Make sure to follow Metal Mastication on social! Horns UP! \m/ www.metalmastication.com
HM-What inspired the name of your band and how does it reflect your music?
SD17 was the name I (founder Tim Haverman) created in 2020 Keep in mind that SD17 was just a solo project at that time, but the name is a combination of two specific things The SD pays tribute to my band from the early 90’s called Steel Dawn The 17 represents the year I started writing music again
HM- How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
Metal music with a healthy dose of life experience.
HM- Can you walk us through your songwriting process and how you come up with the lyrics and music for your songs?
Historically, Tim would write the music and lyrics, however, with the team complete in ‘23, those duties are now shared Melody and Tim will normally come up with the foundations of the music and lyrics, then the rest of the team adds their talents to what now makes a SD17 song It is a team effort
HM- What sets your band apart from others in the metal genre?
Rock and metal is really an anchor point for us. We play the kind of music that you can get sweaty too, and also pause for some reflection.
HM- How do you incorporate different influences and genres into your music to create a unique sound?
The diverse personalities and musical tastes of each team member drives the SD17 creative process If you look at any of the playlists we all contribute too, you will see a wide range of influences That wide range of influences creates something special musically for SD17 songs Followonfacebook.com/SD17Music

HM-Can you tell us about your journey as an artist and how you discovered your passion for making music?
I knew from a really early age that I wanted to do something that involved music so I experimented with different instruments like drums and piano just jamming with friends until a couple years ago I really found passion in singing and recording vocals and the whole mixing process.
HM-Your latest single "Not Alright" has been gaining a lot of attention. What was the inspiration behind the song and how does it relate to your personal experiences?
The whole horror punk-based EP is really about mental health and how we can feel so low at times and I also knew as soon as I started writing music that I wanted to make people feel less alone through my lyrics.
HM-How would you describe your musical style and what sets you apart from other artists in the industry?
I just recently started making the horror punk genre mainly because it felt so natural to me and how everything just flowed and got put together so fast It’s also to separate myself from mainstream pop punk and just be myself
HM-What can fans expect from your upcoming album and how does it showcase your growth as an artist?
Everybody seems to like the distorted sound so I plan on the whole album being horror-punk-themed
HM-Who are some of your biggest musical influences and how have they shaped your sound? POORSTACY for sure We all have that one artist who you just relate to so much and I had the idea of the distorted sound since I started making music and listening to his style really drove me into my transition between pop punk and the distorted horror punk.
