Boscobel String Quartet Four friends with a shared passion for the golden age of the string quartet and a desire to bring it alive again for audiences today, the Boscobelles are all respected period instrumentalists with a collective wealth of international performing experience. Their historic name, borrowed from the oak tree in which King Charles II hid from the Roundheads in 1651, reflects the beautiful wood of their original instruments as well as playfully alluding to the Royal Oak venue of their London debut in October 2016. Their embracing of historically-informed music-making extends from the instruments and techniques they use to the performance setting itself, with a preference for intimate venues which offer the opportunity to recreate the salon atmosphere for which this music was originally conceived.
