IN the small town of Eden roc, lived alec and his father. Alec is a timid boy with very few friends and a fear of the ocean. ever since the day his mother passed away, he has spent most of his time alone.

Dad, where are we going?

Just pack your bags or we are going away for the week. Pack quickly now we don't want to be late.

Before long they arrived at a homey cottage on the water.

with a nervous pale look on his face, alec asks,

dad, why are we here?

i thought it would be a nice get away for a little while. why don't you go and have a look around.

2 As he strolls the shoreline, he can smell the salty air and see the dark waves crashing on the shoreline. AS he stares out to the gloomy void, he sees a lifeguard carrying a little boy from the water.

"Pretty rough sea out there, huh?" says a voice from behind him. Turning, the lifeguard surprised him and suddenly towered over him. "oh...yes, sure" "you want to go out for a swim?" "no thanks, the water is to cold for me. "oh c'mon."

the lifeguard knew that wasn't the problem. He was sure there was something else that was bothering him. after a long disicusion he got the brunt of the issue.

After many days of working together, first swimming in a nearby pond, he was working to conquer his fear of the ocean.

3 I can't do this.

looking at the cold, dark ocean he thought back to his mother, being seized by this very ocean, ending the tight bond that held the family together.

yes, you can. it's no different from the pond we've been swimming in for the past couple of days, says the lifeguard.

a moment later alec hears a voice.

help, Help!

The cry of a boy comes from the ocean.

4 help!

Alec looks around in search of the lifeguard, but he is nowhere to be seen. His hands begin to rapidly shake and his heart races.

he plunges into the ocean.

the waves surround him, bobbing him up and down, but his main focus is to rescue the boy.

Alec races down to the ocean and pauses for a second questioning his next move.

5 alec firmly commands the boy.

get onto the board, and i will take you back to shore.

the lifeguard walks over and complements alec's actions. "way to send it, bud." "ha, i guess i did it without even realizing it," states alec.

a huge crowd of people await at the beach, as the boy is hauled out of the water, shivering and breathless.

Alec, are you all right! What happened?

alec's father rushes up to him.

6

Alec's dad embraces him for the first time since his mother died in that very sand.

dad, the boy is alive.

are you alright? what were you thinking?

Daddy, he saved me.

across the beach and through the herds of people the little boy's father breaks through to his son.

The boy says, pointing to alec.

7

Alec's face lit up.

i did it for myself. i did it for the boy's life, but most importantly i did it for my mother.

why did you do it?
