Leigh York is a third generation real estate licensee. She grew up around real estate agents and builders.

Leigh loves real estate and is extremely passionate about quality education to other agents and associations… And while it may seem that Leigh lives and breaths real estate, she is also the consummate lover of Cabernets – the dryer the better, has an obsession with dark chocolate, adores Great Danes and Mastiffs, enjoys a beautiful day on the back of a Harley Davidson, and has a love affair with Randy her husband of over 20 years.

Leigh is an agent, broker and previously a general manager as well. Leigh is passionate and enthusiastic about the real estate industry. Her service to the real estate industry is impactful and extensive. Lets just say her love of the industry shows through her volunteerism. Over the years Leigh has served on numerous state, local and national association of REALTORS® Committees, PAGs, task forces, councils and Boards and is currently a member of the Broker/Lawyer Committee for the Texas Real Estate Commission.

Leigh brings high standards and professionalism to all she does. But that’s not all. She is funny, honest and listens. She is dedicated to bringing quality education to fellow agents and associations. She has been teaching real estate, professional standards and motivational classes since 2000. She is a past recipient of the Texas REALTORS’ award for Instructor of the Year. She was also Chairperson of the 2019 NAR Professional Standards Committee as well as local REALTOR of the Year, twice! Her classes are informative, interactive and high energy. Taking a class from Leigh will give attendees industry insight, boots on the ground experience and tremendous enthusiasm for real estate! But her biggest talent by far is making the NAR Code of Ethics as exciting as riding a roller coaster! Ok we might have over stated that a bit…but Leigh loves what she does and it shows!

A WORD FROM OUR BOARD PRESIDENT

Welcome to the 2020 Kanawha Valley Board of REALTORS® Education Fair.

Your Association staff, along with our Education Committee, worked very hard over the last year to bring this to fruition.

Countless hours in meetings, working with our affiliates for sponsorships at our trade show, the WV Real Estate Commission, researching speakers, securing a speaker, and finding the right topic to keep “US” more interested on the stage than our cell phones, emails, and speaking with our neighbor. I would like to personally thank all the above for your generosity, dedication and service you have provided to the Kanawha Valley Board of REALTORS®. THANK YOU! In keeping with my acceptance speech from afar in December, 2019, “In 2020, we are going to make our way through the year with a clear vision.” One of my visions is helping those in our industry realize how important a role we play not only in selling houses but to our local community, employment, state, schools, hospitals, government, and the list goes on.

I challenge you to look at what you do every day as a real estate professional. When listing or selling a home, think about the different abilities it requires. Here’s a hint - A good negotiator must have a good working knowledge of all primary functions of business like economics, (CMA’s, pricing- creating a market) business law, (how you practice real estate, ethics, contract writing) engineering, (solve for solutions – think about a domino effect deal) finance, (money management – yours and your clients) cost accounting, (investors, cost to do business) etc. He or she should have studied in detail the methodology of contract and techniques of negotiation. WOW, did you realize how important YOU are to our economy and community? If so, congratulations. If you need work in any of the above, reach out to your Broker, the WV Real Estate Commission, lender, experienced real estate person, or real estate lawyer. We are all here to give each other a hand up, you just have to ask.

Starting with our Education Fair, make 2020 your year to be a “sponge.” Never forget, “Knowledge is Power.”
