International Student Cover Letter

September XX, 20XX Aaron Elkin EZT Production 625 Liberty Avenue Pittsburgh, PA 15212

Anthony explains his work authorization in his cover letter which is the place he can go into a little more detail about his status. Instead of using “sponsorship”, he chooses to use “renewal”, which gives his situation a more positive tone. Anthony stresses the positive of hiring someone with an F-1 Visa, by explaining that he’s able to work on a variety of projects with a variety of people. He’s shown great leadership, and the ability to adapt to various cultures.

Dear Mr. Elkin: I am writing in response to your job posting for a full time Engineering Trainee on the University of Oklahoma’s Career Services website. I am confident that you will find that my academic training in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Oklahoma, along with my leadership experience from working as a team player, qualify me for this position. To broaden my education at the University of Oklahoma, I took six courses in biological science and chemistry in addition to my degree requirements for Mechanical Engineering. I believe that my knowledge of Organic chemistry will be valuable while working as an Engineer in the field or plants, where high-pressured hydrocarbons and other gasses are usually present. Additionally, I am the President of the International Advisory Committee. I work directly with 40 students representing the needs of about 1,500 international students at the university. From my years of holding leadership positions, I have learned to effectively work well as a team player and a team leader, effectively collaborating with a variety of people. I have also learned to work in a timely fashion and work well even under pressure and stress. I believe these experiences will help me succeed in this position. Although I have many qualities that will make me an asset to your company, I will need visa renewal. A visa sponsorship/renewal can be obtained and I am knowledgeable about the process. More information about my experiences and education is included in my enclosed resume. I would really appreciate the opportunity to meet with you in person to further discuss my application. I can be reached by phone: 405-532-1269, or email: amoreno@ou.edu. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Sincerely,

Handwritten Signature Anthony Moreno Enclosure

Work Experience

International Student Resume

Anthony lists his work experience and leadership instead of focusing on the fact he is an international student. A resume is NOT the place to put his employment status, TOEFL scores, personal information such as picture, age, marital status, social security number, country of origin, or birth date information. This is his one opportunity to showcase his skills, education, and experience to an employer, which is why he catered his resume to the Engineering Trainee position..
