ABOUT SUN TV In December 2004, the station formerly known as Toronto 1 became part of the Quebecor Media family and it has been re-branded as Sun TV. This purchase was part of a convergence of Sun Media properties. The convergence of the Toronto Sun, SUN TV, 24 hours and Canoe.ca into a cross-pollination of news, entertainment, sports and community will be an exciting meeting of styles and formats. Quebecor Inc. pledges major financial and resource commitment for long-term growth in this market with an investment of $110 million in Ontario for their Sun Media properties to converge. Leveraging a strong knowledge base from the #1 network in French Canada, TVA and strong promotional and content ties with the Toronto Sun, Canoe.ca and 24 hours, Sun TV is poised for growth and increasing influence in the Toronto market. Sun TV will have a new focus on entertainment and sports and the 2005 Canadian Urban Music Awards fits this new focus. The 2005 Canadian Urban Music Awards will be broadcast on Sun TV tentatively during the week of December 19th - 23rd, 2005. The 2005 CUMAs will benefit from this new convergence by carrying out a new cross platform media campaign to promote this years awards show. Sun TV carries a variety of programs for all ages and tastes. Noteworthy for the upcoming season and exclusive to SUN TV are: 24 (the first two seasons), Charmed, George Lopez, Freddie, Girlfriends, Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List, Cold Turkey and The Jerry Springer Show. Based on Quebecor’s successful convergence model, the Ontario format, while utilizing Quebecor’s strength and expertise, is incorporating a mix of news and community interests creating a larger content pool with increased opportunities. The result will be a convergence format that provides a strong sense of community onair, online, and in the newspaper. To that goal plans call for Sun TV to join their colleagues at the King Street local in the near future. Quebecor strongly believes that convergence in the Ontario market will create: !A sustainable competitive edge, in the country’s most competitive media market; !A higher quality of content; !An increase in advertising sales; !A more effective marketing of services; !Increased power for events and promotions. CANADIAN

The strategy is to position the Quebecor’s media properties as the epicenter of multimedia convergence while simultaneously raising the awareness, relevance, necessity and immediacy of Sun TV, Toronto Sun, 24 hours and Canoe.ca.

AUDIENCE Urban is much more than the music…it is a culture. It is a culture that is as prevalent among teens in metropolitan and rural communities as it is among young professionals. Urban culture encompasses music, film, sports, fashion, technology, vehicles, food and beverage, media. The urban audience consists of today's tastemakers who set lifestyle trends. They are a youthful and active demographic. They like to have fun, and they invest in the music and entertainment value that will enable them to enjoy life to the fullest. When it comes to urban music and culture, the key is authenticity and integrity. Fans of urban culture are drawn to the genuineness of the product and/or service. The buying decisions of this audience are largely driven by the urban artists and connoisseurs who represent the lifestyle that they admire and wish to emulate. As the voice of Canada's urban music industry, UMAC's authenticity will help you connect directly with this highly coveted audience. “Urban is the music of a generation - just as Rock 'n Roll once was.” - Farley Flex, UMAC Member & Canadian Idol Judge

Over the last five years, Canada has experienced a mainstream urban music explosion as evidenced by the launch of a 24-hour urban music video channel (MuchVIBE), and several urban radio stations including: FLOW 93.5 (Toronto), The Beat 94.5 (Vancouver), VIBE 98.5 (Calgary), Hot 89.9 (Ottawa), The Beat 91.5 (Kitchener) and VIBE 91.7 (Edmonton launch in early 2005). There has also been a proliferation of Canadian publications and websites dedicated to urban music and culture. Urban artists are increasingly becoming the face and voice of many leading mainstream brands (ie. Beyonce Pepsi; Queen Latifah Cover Girl; 50-Cent and Jay-Z Reebok). The Reebok example is a success story on both sides of the border. In the U.S., Jay-Z's “S. Carter Collection by RBK” became the fastest selling non-athletic shoe in Reebok's history. In Canada, urban star Shawn Desman's “Amaze” line moved 500 units per week in 2003 (volume that is impressive for the Canadian market).* There are countless other examples of mainstream brands that have used urban music as method of connecting with what is undeniably the most popular culture and lifestyle today (including Honda's “Civic Nation” campaign and McDonald's “I'm Lovin' It” campaign). Companies that take advantage of this valuable opportunity now will build a long-term brand loyalty relationship with the youthful urban audience. UMAC wants to help you make that connection!
