DIRECTOR’S NOTE Operatic Comedy - what could be better? Welcome to Living On Love, a romantic comedy of operatic proportions. This play has been on the short list for several years and the Hipp is excited to finally be celebrating the fireworks that opera and love create in our lives. Our leading lady Raquel, known as La Diva, tells us that “I think opera is better than life. There is nothing mundane or routine or ordinary in opera. It never dwells in the trivia of our daily existence. It revels in the greatest of love and sorrow with heart-stopping beauty.” And that is what we have created. We have mixed together a gorgeous set to create a stage worthy of an operatic struggle; lavish and opulent costumes that any diva would die for; a brilliant cast bringing these roles to life; and don’t forget the dog. There is always an adorable small dog. The Hippodrome believes in the joy that theater can bring. In our first readthrough of this play, the cast and crew started giggling so hard we had to stop and catch our breaths. ARTISTIC DIRECTOR’S NOTE The Hippodrome Theatre is a first-class regional theatre and artistic space committed to excellence in North Florida and creates programming that reflects and elevates the diverse cultures and perspectives of our region as well as create and maintain ongoing engagement with our community. But what is a regional theater? Regional theater is a permanent nonprofit professional theatre company that has established roots outside the major theatre centers. Besides bringing first-rate theatre to our region, we often have programs to nurture local talent and to encourage new plays of special regional interest. But what makes professional theater different from community theater or educational theatre? In a professional theatre everyone associated with a production, from directors, technicians, designers, and actors, are paid for their time and talent. And while community and educational theater provide opportunities for the community to take an active role in all phases of theater, our professional regional theater hires professionals who are highly trained and, at least during the production, the production is their full time job. This allows the theater to produce high quality productions very quickly - in less than three weeks! WHO’S WHO IN LIVING ON LOVE Joe DiPietro won two Tony Awards for cowriting MEMPHIS, which also received the 2010 Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for Best Musical. His other plays and musicals include I LOVE YOU, YOU’RE PERFECT, NOW CHANGE (the longest running musical revue in off-Broadway history); THE TOXIC AVENGER and THE THING ABOUT MEN (both winners of the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway musical,); the muchproduced comedy OVER THE RIVER AND THROUGH THE WOODS; THE ART OF MURDER (Edgar Award winner for Best Mystery Play) and the Broadway musical ALL SHOOK UP. His drama CREATING CLAIRE debuted at George Street Playhouse in 2010. His work has received thousands of productions across the country and around the world. Garson Kanin was born on November 24, 1912, in Rochester, New York. He dropped out of high school after the 1929 Wall Street crash to help the family finances, at first as a jazz clarinetist and saxophonist, then as a vaudeville and burlesque comedian. After studies at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, he turned to the legitimate stage, making his Broadway debut as an actor in 1933. He directed his first play in 1937 and the following year went to Hollywood, where he piloted a succession of entertaining films, such as “The Great Man Votes” (1939), “My Favorite Wife,” and “They Knew What They Wanting” (both 1940). His career was interrupted by WWII, during which he produced and directed documentaries for the Office of Emergency Management and collaborated with Sir Carol Reed on the Oscar-winning THE TRUE GLORY (1945), a film record of Operation Overlord, the invasion of Normandy (D-Day). After the war he returned to Broadway as a playwright and director and scored a big hit with the comedy BORN YESTERDAY (1946), which was later adapted to the screen. In between theatrical engagements he worked in Hollywood, writing several hilarious screenplays for George Cukor, usually in collaboration with his wife, Ruth Gordon. He returned briefly to film directing in the late ‘60s. His many books include “Tracy and Hepburn” (1971), an intimate memoir of his relationship with the famed screen stars. Five years after the death of his first wife, he married again to stage (and occasional movie) actress Marian Seldes. Other plays include THE RAT RACE and THE GIFT OF TIME. He also published numerous articles in newspapers and periodicals, as well as nonfiction and fiction. He died on March 13, 1999, in New York City

Jaden Waz (Bruce) Jaden is honored to be a part of his first Equity production! He is a freshman in the Musical Theatre program at UF. He has been acting in theater productions his whole life, and has experience in TV/film, with small roles in the show I Am Frankie and the movie, The Infiltrator.
WHO’S WHO IN LIVING ON LOVE Kelly Atkins*^ (Raquel de Angelis) Living on Love is Kelly’s thirteenth production at the Hippodrome. Some past favorites include Toxic Avenger, Hand to God, the title role in Alice in Wonderland, and two productions of The Great American Trailer Park Musical as Pippi, the stripper. Most recently, she appeared here at the Hipp in the title role of Scrooge in Rouge, as Florence Foster Jenkins in Souvenir, and at the Alhambra Theatre as Donna in Mamma Mia. Other notable performances: Hello, Dolly with Sally Struthers, Lend Me a Tenor with Jamie Farr, world premiere of Amorous Crossing with Loretta Swit. Film/ TV: Recount, America’s Most Wanted, numerous commercials, guest hosting on Designing Spaces. Concert engagements: soloist with the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra, Opera Theatre of Connecticut, national finalist in the American Traditions Vocal Competition.
Kyle Brumley* (Robert Samson) Kyle is an actor and director based in Atlanta, GA. Hippodrome audiences may remember Kyle from his turn as Christopher in The Curious Incident... Kyle has performed for Actor’s Express, Theatrical Outfit, Georgia Ensemble, Georgia Shakespeare, Capitol City Opera, Aris, Fabrefaction, 7 Stages, and spent three years as a company member of Cincinnati Shakespeare. Nugget (Puccini) Nugget is thrilled to be making her acting debut as Puccini here at The Hippodrome after years of providing moral support for the cast and crew. When not helping at the theatre, this rescue Shih Tzu mix helps socialize other rescue animals that her mom’s foster with Faithful Friends Pet Rescue and Rehoming. In her free time Nugget loves to snack on fresh fruits and veggies, wear the latest fashions, and find the most comfortable spot to take a nap. Nugget hopes you enjoy the show!

Stephanie Lynge (Director) is an accomplished actor, director, producer, teacher and coach. Stephanie has enjoyed a career of more than 27 years in professional theater and education. Since 2013 she has worked on more than 50 productions at the Hippodrome either as an actor, director, choreographer, or dramaturg. She was seen on stage in The Wolves and Let The Right One In. Her other acting credits include performances in New York City on Broadway and Off Broadway at Lincoln Center, BAM, Jean Cocteau Rep, and the York Theater Workshop. Regional theaters include Freefall, Goodspeed Opera House, Sacramento Music Circus, Pasadena Playhouse, Rep Theater of St. Louis, Flat Rock Playhouse, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, Seaside Music Theater, as well as several National Tours. Directing credits include the Hippodrome’s Every Christmas Story Ever Told, The Legend of Georgia McBride, Sex With Strangers, The Blameless, and Lone Star Spirits as well as plays at the 45th Street Theater (NYC), New York Musical Theater Festival, and the University of Florida. Stephanie has served as a Visiting professor at Indiana University, and an Adjunct professor at New Jersey City University and University of Florida. After receiving her BA in Musical Theater from Indiana University, Stephanie lived and worked as an actor in New York City for over 20 years. Stephanie holds a Master of Fine Arts in acting from University of Florida and is a proud member of Actors Equity Association since 1996.
WHO’S WHO IN LIVING ON LOVE Amber Wilkerson*^ (Stage Manager) Amber is a professional Stage & Event Manager. She has been affiliated with the Hippodrome Theatre since 2003, first as Properties Intern, then as Assistant Stage Manager before moving to New York City to pursue a career in theatre. She returned to the Hipp as the AEA Stage Manager of A Christmas Carol in 2005 & 2006. She has worked professionally for The Metropolitan Opera (NYC), The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey (Madison, NJ), North Shore Music Theatre (Beverly, MA), and Times Square New Year’s Eve 2006-2010 (NYC). In 2006, Amber served as a Production Assistant on the Broadway musical, Grey Gardens. Amber spent five years working with Manhattan Theatre Club as a Subscriber Services Representative and two years as a House Manager at Playwrights Horizons, both in New York City. Originally from Maryland, she holds a B.A. in Theatre Arts from Salisbury University. Amber is a proud member of the Hippodrome Company and the Actors’ Equity Association. Robert P. Robins (Production Manager/Lighting Designer) Bob is enjoying his 35th season at the Hippodrome. During his tenure here at the Hippodrome, Bob has provided lighting designs for over 300 Main Stage productions. Over the course of his time at the Hippodrome, Bob has held many titles such as lighting designer, sound engineer, live audio mixer, stage manager for Hippodrome Mainstage; touring productions and Theatre For Young Audiences tours, pyrotechnician, lightboard operator, and bartender. Today, in addition to lighting designer and production manager, Bob is also the facility manager of the 110 year old building that the Hippodrome calls home. Bob also provides freelance lighting designs around the country when he can. He is also an Actors’ Equity Association stage manager, and proudly holds a BFA in Theatre Production from the University of Florida. See more of Bob’s work at www.robertrobins.com Warren Goodwin (Technical Director) Warren joined the Hippodrome in 2004 as a carpenter in the scene shop, and assumed the role of Master Carpenter in 2006. In addition to helping build over a hundred of Hippodrome sets, Warren served as co-scenic designer on The Christians and The Wolves. He is thrilled to be currently serving as Technical Director. In his free time, Warren enjoys painting, and is an accomplished local artist. You can often find his work on display next door at Maude’s Cafe.
WHO’S WHO IN LIVING ON LOVE Bill Boothman (Lead Electrician) Prior to joining the Hipp Bill worked with the stagehand’s union IATSE local 115 in Jacksonville, FL. Bill prefers neck down work, but to stay employed will occasionally dip their toe into design. “We’ve all had to branch out and learn new skills in this new era we all find ourselves in.”, says Bill. Recent Hippodrome design credits include video designer for Souvenir, This Wonderful Life, and A Show Must Go On. Bill is a synthesizer hobbyist. Amanda Nipper (Sound Designer) Amanda is thrilled to be in her ninth season at the Hippodrome. Other regional credits include Cape Fear Regional Theatre: Jesus Christ Superstar, Legally Blonde: The Musical, and The Parchman Hour: Songs and Stories of the ’61 Freedom Riders as the mix engineer in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Dorset Theatre Festival: Good People, The Whore and Mr. Moore, Boeing Boeing, and Deathtrap. Keep moving forward. Erin Jester (Costume Designer/Shop Supervisor) is delighted to return to the Hippodrome for its 49th season. Erin is a UF alumna and a former Hippodrome costumes intern (2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons), and in 2020 received her MFA in costume design and technology from the University of Southern Mississippi. Previous costume design credits include productions of Cabaret, Much Ado About Nothing and Mary Zimmerman’s Metamorphoses. Other credits include costume historical research for North Carolina State University’s Khayrallah Center for Lebanese Diaspora Studies, historical costume reproduction for the Lauren Rogers Museum of Art in Laurel, MS, and costume coordination for the Moscow Ballet’s The Great Russian Nutcracker and the independent film series 12 Westerns in 12 Months, directed by Travis Mills. Susan Schuld (Accent/Dialect and Text Coach) has been acting and vocal coaching nationally for over 25 years and is an Associate Professor of Voice and Speech here at the School of Theatre and Dance. M.F.A in Acting from Rutgers University, Designated Linklater Teacher, Certified Teacher of Knight-Thompson Speechwork, and a National Michael Chekhov Association Teacher.
WHO’S WHO IN LIVING ON LOVE Tim Dygert (Scenic & Props Designer) Tim is a staff member of The Harn Museum of Art, and the owner and operator of Dygert Design LLC, a professional design firm based in Gainesville Florida, specializing in entertainment, residential, and commercial design and consulting. He has been involved in theatre and event production for the entirety of his adult life, having been instrumental in the creation of more than 500 live theatre, dance, music, and corporate events. Tim has worked with internationally recognized and award-winning designers, playwrights, performers, and entertainment professionals. Tim also serves as the Harn Museum of Art’s Exhibit Installation Coordinator and Preparator. He is a professional art handler, assists in the design and installation of exhibitions, and fabricates mounts and custom art installations. His design work can be seen at dygertdesign.com. Bryan Mercer^ (Musical Director) returns to the HIPP since playing Walter in Lone Star Spirits, the piano in Scrooge in Rouge, the Candy Man in Let the Right One In, Horatio in Hamlet, Steve in Becky’s New Car, Jane in Whatever Happened to Baby Jane, John Merrick in The Elephant Man, Bob Cratchit in A Christmas Carol, Mrs. Bumbrake in Peter and the Starcatcher, Gibson in MR. BURNS, a post electric play. He has also musical directed Trailer Park: The Musical, Mr. Burns, The Marvelous Wonderettes, Honkytonk Angels, and many others.
