Preamble The passion for Automobiles was overwhelming. In 1965, Late. Dr. K.C.G. Verghese took teaching assignments in Automobile Engineering subjects and was coaching students for British Automobile Examination as well. It was at this phase he knew he was all set for his own venture; and in 1966 Hindustan Engineering Training Centre (HETC) commenced operations as an institute. HETC later became Hindustan Institute of Engineering and Technology (HIET) and its reputation was high amongst foreign countries than India. Students from Sri Lanka, the African continent, the Gulf countries, Singapore and Malaysia gradually, yet steadily, opted for HIET. This irresistible quest for knowledge slowly paved way for the commencement of other Institutions under Hindustan Group of Institutions (HGI).

Tribute to Founder

Dr. K. C. G. Verghese, though born in an ordinary middle class family in Kerala, by dint of his hard work, rose to one of the top-ranking educationists. He held on sturdy to his dreams and converted them into reality. Being the pioneer to promote technical education in our country, Dr. K. C. G. Verghese helped students explore their potential and made them realize education, hard work and commitment to the nation are the only means to get themselves employable and overcome poverty. His relentless work drove him to success.

He firmly believed, “Every human being has infinite potential. The role of an educator is to bring out the best in every individual and that of an educational institution to provide the best facilities and the right ambience.” The Hindustan Group of Institutions caters to over 18000 students. It has an amazing staff strength of almost a 3000 and a scintillating alumni of over 80,000 students. These are the testimonies of his deep-rooted desire to fulfil his aspirations. He was a patriot and always advised the youngsters to serve their own country.

The popular Chinese proverb states, “If you are planning for a year, sow rice, if you are planning for a decade, plant trees, if you are planning for a lifetime, educate people.” This sums up the entire philosophy of the time and life of legendary, Dr. K. C. G. Verghese, a visionary, who built the entire edifice of the Hindustan Group of Institutions. His profound qualities of enthusiasm, perseverance, vision and live networking has created a springboard for many aspirants to mould their careers.

His penchant for ‘Wheels and Wings’ made him adventurous throughout his life and his indomitable spirit always rose to the occasion and facilitated him to lead. His personality had all the nuances of a great human being. He valued friendship and showed great respect, love and concern to his teachers, family members and parents.

The best tribute we can ever offer this architect of the Hindustan Group of Institutions could be to emulate his ideals and work toward realizing his dreams. Let Dr. K. C. G. Verghese’s vision, “TO MAKE EVERY MAN A SUCCESS AND NO MAN A FAILURE,” inspire us to follow his footsteps.

Auditoriums ▪▪ MGR Auditorium The auditorium is named after the Tamil Film celebrity and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Dr. M. G. Ramachandran. With a seating capacity of 1000, the auditorium is the cultural hub and venue for various functions.

▪▪ Andromeda Lecture Theatre This ultra-modern air-conditioned theatre with 450 members seating capacity is awed for its design. The theatre has won Asia Design Excellence Awards for best “Architecture and Interior Design.”

▪▪ Good Shepherd Hall The hall is exquisitely built with ample seating capacity to accommodate inmates and guests. With central air-conditioned set up, the hall is equipped with latest LCD and high quality Projectors and acts as a venue for most of the top organized programmes and meetings.

▪▪ KS Moorthy Hall The hall is used for organizing events as well as acts as the learning set up for techaided classes. Alike other auditoriums and halls, this is air-conditioned too.

Arenas ▪▪ Parabola Situated adjacent to the Building Sciences Block, Parabola is a domical canopy and is used as a hub for various formal and informal gatherings.

▪▪ Open Air Theatre Located behind the Main Building, the Open Air Theatre is the venue for cultural events.

Dr. K.C. G. Verghese Research and Resource Centre Dr. K.C. G. Verghese Research and Resource Centre is the central library situated in the Founder’s Block with a total carpet area of 65,000 sq.ft. It is spread over three floors with excellent seating arrangements and has centralized airconditioned facility with a perfect eco-friendly environment. It is one of the best-equipped libraries with a huge collection of over 2,10,000 volumes of Books, 389 International/National Periodicals in print format, Back volumes and over 3500 CDs/DVDs. It also has more than 42,000 e-journals and 35,000 e-books with

online databases viz. IEEE, EMERALD, SPINGER LINK, SCIENCE DIRECT, PROQUEST, EBSCO etc.

HITS Library System consists of a Central Library and 17 departmental libraries which collectively support the teaching, research and extension program of the Institute. All students, faculty and employees of the institute are entitled to utilize the Library facilities. The Digital Library contains 60 Apple i-Mac systems and 10 i-pads, Laptops and Kindle with internet access.

Sports Facilities A 15-acre well-maintained playground cater to the sports facilities and recreational requirements of the students and the staff. Many reputed tournaments are conducted in these courts.

Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) Choice Based Credit system was introduced from 2015 in the curriculum to provide students a balanced approach to their educational endeavour. CBCS is currently applicable to students for all the programmes offered by HITS from 2018–19 onwards. Every student must compulsorily go through the academic regulations for their respective programmes which is available in the Institution Website.

2. Compulsory Courses (CC) ▪▪ Professional Core (PC) courses introducing students to the foundation of Engineering topics related to the chosen programme of study comprising of theory and Practical/ Field Work/Design Project/Project.

3. Non–Departmental Electives (NE) ▪▪ These are courses offered by Engineering and Non-Engineering departments (across disciplines) other than their parent Department.

Two groups of Electives are available under NE namely, Engineering Electives offered by Engineering Departments and Open Electives offered by Non–Engineering departments.

4. Indexed Journal/Conference Publications ▪▪ If a student publishes a paper in indexed Journal / Conference as main author, the same can be considered as equivalent to one two credit course under NE. 5. Non-CGPA ▪▪ Courses offered in certain semesters which are compulsory, but are not used for calculation of GPA and CGPA. However, the credits will be mentioned in the grade sheet.

Non CGPA Courses The student shall select any two courses/activity from the following Table during the entire period of study. The student has to make his/her own efforts for earning the credits. The grades given will be Pass/Fail (P/F). Outcome Based Education As a theory, Outcome Based education (OBE) is a student-centred learning model, making each segment of study revolve around a goal.

Outcome based methods are practiced in education systems around the world at multiple levels. Designing the curriculum keeping the outcomes in mind is indeed crucial in OBE. Factors like, what knowledge and skill sets are required, at each levels, to reach the planned outcomes of learning are decided upon while framing the syllabus. Hence, students will understand what is expected of them during the course period, and which level of learning is expected to be acquired; also, teachers will know what they need to teach during the course.

By the successful completion of the educational experience, each student should have achieved 20

the determined goal. There is no single specified style of teaching or assessment in OBE—instead, classes, opportunities, and assessments should all help students achieve the specified outcomes.

The role of the faculty adapts into instructor, trainer, facilitator, and mentor based on the outcomes targeted.

Project Based Learning As a student-aimed pedagogy, Project Based Learning (PBL) nurtures learners' knowledge through exploration of real-time challenges and problems. Students, for a specific period of time, get involved in study by working on a project either as an individual or in groups. On contrary with routine classroom learning, PBL, as a practical method of study emphasizes inquiry-based active learning enabling students to explore, analyze and respond to complex Hindustan Institute of Technology & Science

questions and challenges; and also arrive at near possible solutions. The core idea of this is to kindle students' interest and provoke serious thinking while actively engaging them acquire and apply knowledge. As an instructional framework, PBL allows teachers to facilitate and assess deeper understanding and explore practical rather than traditional methods of teaching. Practiced as curriculum, PBL undoubtedly instils confidence and appreciates individual as well as team learning.

Options for Minor Specialization Students, who are desirous of pursuing their special interest areas other than the chosen branch of study in Engineering/Technology/ Arts/Fashion/Humanities/Management/Basic Sciences, may opt for additional courses in minor specialization groups offered by a department other than their parental department. Such students shall select the stream of courses offered with prerequisites by the respective departments and earn a minor specialization.

Salient Features: ▪▪ Number of credits to be earned for minor specialization is 12.

▪▪ Students are permitted to register for their minor specialization courses from their 5th semester onwards subject to a maximum of 6 credits per semester.

▪▪ List of such additional courses offered by various departments and the schedule will be announced in the beginning of the academic year to facilitate the registration process.

▪▪ Students have to pay the requisite fee for such additional courses.

Honours Programme A new academic programme B.Tech. (Hons.) is introduced in order to facilitate the students to choose the specialized courses of their choice and build their competence in a focused area.

List of additional courses offered by various departments and the schedule will be announced in the beginning of the academic year to facilitate the registration process. Faculty Advisor of the

registered candidate will suggest the additional courses to be taken by the students based on their choice and level of academic competence.

Salient Features: ▪▪ B.Tech. students in regular stream can opt for B.Tech. (Hons.), provided they have CGPA of 8.0 up to the end of 4th semester without any history of arrears.

▪▪ Students opting for this programme have to take four additional courses, from Post Graduate level as well, of their specialization of a minimum of 3 credits each between 5th and 8th semesters with not more than 2 additional courses in a semester.

▪▪ Students who have obtained “E” or “U” or “RC” or “RA” grade (vide clause 16.0) in any course, including the additional credit courses, during the entire duration of the programme are not eligible for B.Tech.

(Hons.) degree.

▪▪ Students have to pay the requisite fee for such additional courses.

MOOC Credit Equivalence UGC MOOC, a vertical of SWAYAM, is a government initiated programme to bridge the digital divide of the students who have not yet found themselves a part of the digital revolution and hitherto not been able to participate in the knowledge economy. The objective of this effort is to provide the best learning resources to all as the courses offered are those taught from 9th standard to post graduation including various disciplines. A state of the art pedagogy is being implemented to enrich the learning experience using audio-video and multimedia.

Seven national coordinators are appointed to ensure best quality content. They are NPTEL for Engineering, UGC for Postgraduation, CEC for Undergraduation, NCERT, NIOS for Schools, IGNOU for after School students and Management studies. Various courses are being offered under NPTEL across all Engineering, Science and Humanities disciplines for the students to choose in line with their interest.

The Department of Aeronautical Engineering is the largest department offering project based programmes in Aeronautical and Aerospace at Bachelor, Master and Doctorate levels with an excellent academic and research standing.

Specifically, there are three undergraduate programmes under Aeronautical, and Aerospace or Aeronautical with specialization in Avionics stream; and three postgraduate programmes in Aeronautical, Aircraft Maintenance Engineering and Avionics. Besides these programmes, specializations are offered to the PG students which can be completed within the same prescribed duration. The specialization options are meant to meet the challenges posed by the new aircraft and aerospace design which are highly dependent on unique capabilities with high performance; produce professional to play role of ensuring the quality and reliability of aircraft components using Non-Destructive Testing; and prepare engineers with design of UAV which is the wave of the future when it comes to aerial surveillance for both civil and military fields.

The unique “ALSIM Flight Simulators� available in house, provide an in-depth dimension to the flight mechanics and expose students to efficient use of flight envelopes and the complexity of aircraft stability and instrumentation. In addition, the students are given flying training at Orient Flight Academy.

The School of Aeronautical Sciences provides a very conducive learning environment for students with modern laboratory facilities and extensive use of IT infrastructure and well trained faculty members. The School houses the Centre of Excellence for TIFAC-CORE, Centre for Autonomous Systems and SIMCRASH under its flagship. Students get opportunities to participate in international competitions sponsored by NASA, Airbus, UVSI, SAE International etc., and get to design and develop

Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science Engineering Entrance Examination (HITSEEE)

HITS recognizes the need for providing educational opportunities for people of widely varying ages and backgrounds.

Therefore, special admission programmes are available for potentially successful students from disadvantaged, culturally deprived, or economically impoverished segments of the society. For further details, the Head Office can be contacted. Admission to Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science thus, is purely nondiscriminatory.

Admission Policies and Procedures (B. Tech. / B. Des. Programmes) An online Entrance Examination, HITSEEE, is conducted every year at various cities across India. Students seeking admission for Undergraduate Programmes have to register online to appear for the Entrance Examination on dates specified in the media advertisements. The duration of the entrance examination is 2 hours.

Students are required to answer 120 questions covering Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.

Based on the entrance examination score and marks in the qualifying examination, a rank list is prepared for admission into UG Programmes.

How to Apply for HITSEEE? Students, having the qualifying marks, can apply to any one of the undergraduate programmes offered by HITS. The applications should be submitted at the Admission Office before the deadline mentioned in the advertisement. This does not apply for those who apply for nonprofessional programmes and research related programmes.

Engineering and Technology Non-Resident Indian students and foreign students are exempted from taking the All India Entrance Examination (HITSEEE) conducted by Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science for admission. Counselling/Mentoring Service (HCS) With recognition of vital role in the preparation of next generation’s intellectual leaders, Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science has taken the step of student counselling/mentoring system in its campus. Whilst, the role of Class Advisor usually is limited to guide students in academic programmes, the role of mentor is centered on a commitment to advance students’ career through an interpersonal engagement facilitating guidance, experience and expertise.

The fact that today’s students come from an increasingly diverse backgrounds may add a layer of complexity to this life within the campus.

It may be likely that the stresses they have in their day-to-day life will at some time interfere with their academic achievements and personal growth. The Counseling Centre of HITS helps students deal effectively with such concerns.

Mode of Counselling in HITS Each student is allotted a mentor and is under the constant watch. 20 students come under one mentor as ratio 1:20. The mentor meets students at least once in a month, and beyond that according to the needs and offers guidance. Grievance Redressal Committee As per the regulations of UGC an Ombudsman has been appointed and a Grievance Redressal Committee has been formed in order to address the grievances of the students and parents.

▪▪ A register is available at the Office of DeanAcademics to record the complaints of the aggrieved students or parents. Students or parents who seek to redress their grievance can record the same in the register.

▪▪ On receipt of the complaint, the Dean -Academics shall convene the Grievance Redressal Committee Meeting.

▪▪ After conducting a detailed enquiry, the Convenor of the Grievance Committee shall communicate its decisions within 10 days from receipt of the complaint to the aggrieved students or parents.

Toastmasters International (TI) is a non-profit educational organization that helps its members to improve communication, public speaking, and leadership skills. The Hindustan Toastmasters Club aims at developing these skills of its staff and students. The members of the club meet once in a week and activities are held as per the norms of the Toastmasters Club.

Necessary stationery, accessories, refreshments etc., are available at reasonable prices from the Departmental Store run intra the campus. The store is opened between 7.00 a.m. and 7.00 p.m.

Hindustan Health Centre Hindustan Health Centre provides medical diagnosis and treatment for a variety of illnesses and injuries to the students. Campus doctor is available during the working hours. Free checkup and treatment is provided. According to the requirement, students are also referred to Chettinad Health City at Kelambakkam which is adjacent to the campus. Vaccination Camps for serious diseases like measles, mumps, tetanus and hepatitis B are conducted periodically.

Other Services DTP Centre A full-fledged Desktop Publishing Centre aids students access printing facilities required for any academic purpose. Assignments, project work, thesis documents etc. can be printed and bounded here as per requirements at nominal charges.

Banking/ATM Facilities Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) is situated at campus to cater to the banking needs of the students and staff members. ATM facility is also available on the campus. Besides IOB, many other leading banks are available within close proximity.

Cafeteria A well-furnished Cafeteria serving Continental and Indian cuisines is located centrally in the Institution. Besides, fast food and other eateries are also available. 'Garage Café’ is another food court in HITS that has a rugged garage appearance and caters to the needs of the food lovers on campus. Both continental and Indian cuisines are served here.

Laundry Service Laundry and dry cleaning services are available at campus only for residential staff and hostel students. The Laundromat provides modern equipment for laundry services.

Transport The institution operates a fleet of 50 buses, both air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned, to all the important city spots for the benefit of the students and staff. The services of buses are utilized for industrial visits and excursions as well.

Scores of public transport buses ply via campus and day scholars can avail service at any time.

Ambulance Facility Ambulance service is available round the clock for the emergency use of Staff & Students. The Campus Clinic can be contacted for the same.

Security A round the clock security system with CCTV surveillance is provided at vantage points like the main gate, main entrance, hostels, fast food area, parking spot, students centre etc. Extra security for female students as per UGC norms are followed to ensure their stay in a safe and secure environment.

Internet Policy ▪▪ Usage of Wireless infrastructure in hostels and common places is to enhance the accessibility of internet for academic purposes and to browse exclusive online resource for students and staff.

▪▪ Wi-Fi internet will be available in Hostels and Common areas between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. The availability and strength of the WiFi signal may vary based on the location.

▪▪ The Wi-fi access points provided in hostels and common areas are the properties of the Institution and any damage or loss of the equipment will be considered as a serious breach of the Institution’s code of conduct.

A strict disciplinary action will be initiated on the students who are found guilty for the loss or damages. In the incident of any loss or damage to the wireless infrastructure, it will be assessed and the same will be recovered from all the students who are residing in that floor/building/hostel.

Wi-Fi Access Guidelines Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), statutory body that controls the Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in India has directed all Universities to take strong steps in strengthening the security of Wi-Fi networks.

Users of HITS Wi-Fi services must be registered with authorities and ensure that no other mobile networks, other than the registered one, is allowed in Wi-Fi network access. Hence the Institution has the right to do lawful monitoring/ logging of all internet users' activity and share it with statutory bodies, if required.

Any user or device that accesses Wi-Fi network shall: ▪▪ Protect the user account from unauthorized users by not sharing the credentials to others for any reasons/means. Student will be held responsible for any misuse of his/her account. Maximum number of concurrent (simultaneous) logins for a user account is ONE device either laptop/ tablet/smartphone.

▪▪ Use the internet judiciously and adhere to the policies of the Institution.

▪▪ Incidences of actual or suspected noncompliance of this policy should be 74

Enforcement and Sanctions The Institution reserves the right to disable one’s wireless network access for any of the following reasons if found: ▪▪ Access to wireless internet is only an extended service. Availability of wireless services solely depends on the discretion of the Institution and it has the right to stop/ interrupt the services at any given point of time, if required for any technical purpose.

▪▪ Allowing other individuals (e.g. friends, coworkers, multiple devices etc.) to use one’s account.

▪▪ Attempt to tamper/hacking the servers/ network or overloading IT resources and assets by excessive bandwidth usage or using misconfigured devices or knowingly using a false identity.

▪▪ Download/Use/Store or transmit illegal copies of copyright materials or patented software/movies/songs etc. is violation of the regulatory laws that involve protection of data or privacy.

Violation of this policy and guidelines is a serious offense and the Institution holds the right to permanently seize the laptop/devices and/ or initiate strong disciplinary action, including termination from the institution if need arises based on the severity of non-compliance.

Hostel Accommodation HITS offers excellent residential accommodation for the students. The residential complex includes staff quarters and guest houses which can accommodate more than 1500 students and guests. Presently, eight hostels are available on the campus; of which, five are for boys and three for girls. Due to limited accommodation, students from distant places are given preference. The institution provides refurbished, clean rooms when students checks in. Students have a choice to opt either Ac/Non-Ac rooms designed to provide an ideal environment conductive for academic pursuit. Canteen and fast food centers function between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. Bus facilities can be availed by hostel residents to visit the city on Sundays and other holidays. Laundry services are available for the convenience of the students.

Indoor recreational facilities like Table Tennis, Badminton, Gymnasium and other indoor games keeps young minds and body active. Hostel facilities are earmarked in such a way, that the students can feel themselves at home and pursue their studies in a serene atmosphere.

Functioning of Library till 8 p.m. is absolutely a

huge advantage for students to utilize. Each hall has a dining and indoor recreation facilities.

Admission to the Hostels Admission into the residential halls is done after careful scrutiny of the student’s performance and conduct. Applications for admission to the hostels should be made through a form prescribed for the purpose. A student seeking hostel admission must give a written undertaking that he/she will abide by the rules of the hostel. Membership to these hostels automatically ceases when the academic session, for which the student has enrolled, ends. The parent or guardian should vouch the same. All issues related to the Hostel admission are dealt by the Chief Warden. Hostel accommodation is subject to availability.

Hostel Rules ▪▪ Students are expected to maintain utmost silence in the residence halls during study hours.

▪▪ A Campus Resident (CR) will have to stay in the room allotted to him/her with two or more inmates.

▪▪ Campus Residents of each room are jointly held responsible for the furniture and other fittings; and any damage to the hostel property is recoverable from them.

▪▪ Guests are strictly prohibited from entering the hostel premises without prior permission of the warden.

▪▪ Resident students will not be permitted to stay outside the campus at nights. There are separate leave rules for the students residing in the Halls.

▪▪ Students may be expelled from the hostel on violation of rules and misconduct such as theft, ragging, abnormal behaviour, use of drugs and alcohol, being indiscipline, non-payment of fees, etc.

▪▪ A student expelled on disciplinary grounds shall forfeit his/her fees and deposit.

National Cadet Corps (NCC) The National Cadet Corps (Air wing) of the HITS is affiliated to 1 (TN) Air Squadran NCC, Tambaram. The allotted strength for NCC is 150.

Enthusiastic Cadets (boys and girls) are enrolled into the NCC programme every year. The NCC cadets should compulsorily attend a 12-day camp in an academic year apart from other special camps such as National Integration Camp, Vayu Sena Camp, Air Force Attachment Camp, etc.

The cadets are given rigorous physical training which includes March Past, Range Firing, Skeet Shooting, Microliter Flying, Parasailing and so on. Team work and discipline are very important qualities that are instilled in the cadets during training.

National Service Scheme (NSS) The National Service Scheme (NSS) is one of the important service clubs that actively involves in various social outreach programmes. The objective of this service organization is to develop students’ personality through community service. The intake for the NSS unit is 100. As a Central Government sponsored programme, NSS addresses issues like need for afforestation, education, organize blood donation camps, medical camps, provide sustaining old age homes and orphanages.

Youth Red Cross (YRC) Youths represent a substantial part of the membership of Red Cross for its humanitarian commitment. Young volunteers can make a significant contribution to meet the needs of the most vulnerable people within their local communities through Youth Red Cross programme. This is designed in order to involve young people in the movement and its activities not only as workers but also as beneficiaries.

Cultural Students at HITS are always encouraged to participate in cultural activities and have won several laurels at inter-collegiate cultural competitions conducted pan India. “Fresh Face”, a competition sponsored every year by the Times of India, spots the most talented and promising freshers of city colleges. Students have bagged most of the winners title in the Fresh Face of Chennai events. Hindustan Alumni Association (HITSAA) Introduction Hindustan Alumni Association functioning from 1993, provides platform to strengthen Alumni connections with their Alumni Mater and each other through several Alumni events. HITSAA is registered as a Society (Sl. No. 156/2014) under the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act. IEEE Chennai Hub Congress 2017, an IEEE sponsored Madras Section was organized by IEEE Student Branch, HITS on 31 August and 1 September. The motive of the Congress was to equip students with an elaborate knowledge about the extant Cutting-Edge Technology and a collaboration with professionals.

Kalai Koodam South Zone Youth Festival

Kalai Koodam – 2017 the 33rd Inter University South Zone Youth Festival was hosted by HITS with great pomp and gaiety on 18 December 2017. The campus was abuzz with enthusiastic youth and faculty from 31 Universities. The significance of the event was the arrival of over 1000 participants from across 5 Southern States.

Inauguration of Dr. KCG Verghese Higher Education, Leadership and Management (HELM) Center & 6th International Young Scholars Workshop.

The inauguration of the Dr. KCG Verghese HELM Centre and 6th International Young Scholars Workshop (IYSW) in collaboration with American Society for Public Administration (ASPA), USA was held between 12 and 14 July 2017. 50 young research scholars, 10 mentors and senior scholars from US and India participated. Ms. Janice Lachance, JD, President ASPA deliberated on ASPA and its objectives. Prof. Ved Prakash, Former Chairman, UGC, New Delhi emphasized the need for addressing the issues and challenges in Higher Education. An MoU was also signed with ASPA at the event.

4th Dr. K.C.G. Verghese Endowment Lecture The 4th Dr. K.C.G. Verghese Endowment Lecture on “Building an International Business in Emerging Markets” was conducted by the Madras Management Association in collaboration with HITS on 18 November 2016. Mr. Ian Mercer, Head, International Operations, The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), UK was the Chief Guest.

Inaugurations Nebula Astro Club Mr. Mikhail Kornienko, Russian Cosmonaut and Flight Engineer of International Space Station inaugurated the Nebula Astro Club on 19 July 2017. He highlighted the Hyperloop project carried out in Los Angeles, C.A, USA and appreciated Hindustan Group of Institutions for its sponsor.

BOSCH Joint Training Centre HITS-BOSCH Joint Training Centre was inaugurated on 25 October 2017. The Chief Guest of the event was Mr. Abhijit Kallianpur, Head, Regional Business Unit, Automotive Service, Bosch Limited, Bangalore; and Mr. J. Sundar, Head, Technical Support and Service, Bosch Limited, Bangalore was the Guest of Honour.

AYRTON Senna Motorsport Hub Padma Shri. Narain Karthikeyan, India’s First International F1 Racer inaugurated Ayrton Senna Motorsport Hub on 7 October 2017. HITS is the first institution in India to offer Motor Sports in Engineering Programmes.

Stratasys F2703D Printer Dr. T.S. Sridhar, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary/ Commissioner of Revenue Administration and State Relief Commissioner (Retd.), Govt. of Tamil Nadu inaugurated Stratasys F2703D printer on 14 February 2019. The printer worth Rs. 38 lakhs was procured for the Centre for Simulation in Engineering and Design (SIMENDES) at Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Launch of Volkswagen-Ameo (Diesel) Vehicle Mr. Ashok Verghese, Director, HITS launched the Volkswagen’s first diesel Ameo Sub-compact sedan version in Southern India on 21 October 2016. New models of Volkswagen cars like Beetle, Ameo, Polo, Vento were exhibited. VolkswagenAmeo Vehicle is the first car to be launched in an institution in India.

Girl Power Summit

IRPL 2016 was conducted by RAIF in collaboration with HITS to develop students' creativity, design, team building and problem solving skills through challenging and entertaining Robot Football and win the IRPL 2016 Championship. Mr. Kris Kumar, Founder Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Foundation (RAIF), briefed the vision of the event. 14 teams comprising 72 students from various colleges, across the nation participated.

Dr Andy Bell, Global Academic Programme Director, National Instruments, USA was the Chief Guest.

PALS Event

Girl Power Summit, an initiative from Entrepreneurs Council of India in association with HITS was conducted on 11 March 2018.

Eminent women achievers from various sectors were invited for motivational talks and panel discussions.

ACM ICPC Asia Chennai Regional Contest

Partner Institution Alumni Leadership Series (PALS) event was conducted on 30 August 2017.

Dr. T S Ravikumar, PALS Executive Committee Member addressed the audience on PALS and its activities. Mr. C. P. Madhusudhan, Director, Lucid Software delivered a lecture on ‘Analytics and State of Art in Non Destructive Testing’ at the event.

Around 1335 teams from 187 Colleges showed active participation in ACM ICPC on 19 December 2016. Team STALWARTZ BAJA SAEINDIA 2018, a five-day event at Pithampur, Madhya Pradesh was conducted between 25 and 30 January 2018. 150 teams participated in the event. Team STALWARTZ won the 36th position in India, 2nd in Tamil Nadu and 1st in Chennai.

Leag Meeting at NASA Ms. Jayashree Sridhar, Aerospace Engineering has been chosen thrice consecutively for LEAG meeting at NASA Head Quarters, Washington D.C. during 2008, 2009 and 2010 and assigned a presentation. Her paper on Lunar in Space Resource Utilization was selected by IEEE for the International Conference on Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering which was held in Malaysia in 2010.

Team LAKSHYA A 6-member team participated in the NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge 2017 held at the US Space and Rocket Centre in Huntsville, Alabama and ranked 33rd in the world and 1st among Indian competitors.
