The advancement in scientific and technological research will have a significant impact on the future of our nation. India made an immense contribution towards introducing the foremost concept of university system to the world by establishing the world’s renowned ancient universities like Nalanda and Takshashila - Citadels of Higher Education, centuries prior to the rest of the nations. The proof of our age old prowess in Mathematics, Science & Technology in the country is evident from the words of the renowned scientist Albert Einstein, “We owe a lot to the Indian who taught us how to count, without which no worthwhile scientific discovery would have been made.� Research and innovation must be prioritized for addressing the myriad problems our country faces now. It is also imperative that industry and academia should operate in tandem to create the right synergies for promoting industrial growth and academic rejuvenation.

The Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science ( HITS ) is one of the premier institutions in the country focusing on academic outstanding with an emphasis on fundamental and applied research to position itself as one of the leading research universities in Asia. It takes courageous strides in pioneering the research activities and be able to produce a knowledge to serve the humanity. HITS established itself as one of the front runner institutions in India in the field of Engineering and Technology education.

It also keenly looks forward to become one of the best Research Oriented Institutions in the country in near future. To expedite this process, a number of research projects have already been funded by the various Government Funding Agencies such as Department of Science & Technology, Defense Research & Development Organization (Naval Research Board), Ministry of New & Renewable Energy etc.

HITS already established various Centres of Excellence across our respective departments.

The centres provide cutting-edge facilities with rich content, also offers wide range of opportunities to the research scholars. Many of our faculty members are already undertaking scholarly activities and have more than 1000 publication in its record in multitude of Journals and at various conferences. The institution so far filed 91 patents and 10 more are in the pipeline. This brochure reflects necessary information about various research details, which will be valuable to the prospective scholars. I am certain that all our efforts and commitment will certainly increase the output of quality research to benefit the students, society and the nation.

This is is a crucial step on your road in becoming a research student. Your proposal formally outlines your research aims and is one of the main tools our panel would use to judge your application. So sell your idea and yourself.

Apply for the Doctoral programme You need to collect the application form either from our campus or Head Office at Guindy. Filled forms along with required materials must be submitted at Head Office.

You will be receiving an official communication through mail and will be called for a test and interview.

WORLD TECHNOLOGY UNIVERSITIES NETWORK Hindustan Institute of Technology & Science is a founder member of the World Technology Universities Network which comprises of 18 members from across the world.

The objectives of the World Technology Universities Network are to ▶▶ Promote better understanding of the role and the characteristics of technology universities across the world. ▶▶ Collaborate on research and knowledge transfer to address global challenges. ▶▶ Develop position and policy statements. ▶▶ Facilitate links between world technology universities and industry, NGOs and SMEs. ▶▶ Share best practices, and provide opportunities for capacity-building among members These objectives will be accomplished through exchanges between member universities;collaborative research between member universities; and facilitating links between world technology universities and industry, NGOs and SMEs delivery of an annual Congress, hosted by a member institution around the world. To facilitate this, the Network members meet once in year during the World Technology Universities Congress.

The World Technology Universities Congress is organized by the World Technology Universities Network (WTUN). The 3 rd World Technology Universities Congress was hosted jointly by Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science and Indian Institute of Technology (Madras) between 28th and 30th November 2018 in Chennai. Around 100 participants from partner Universities and Universities desiring to become members registered for the Congress. The 2018 Congress included sessions featuring global university, business, and industry leaders discussing current and future challenges facing the world and the role and responsibilities of universities taking multi-disciplinary approaches to respond to these challenges.

The Centre of Excellence in Photonics and LIDAR Research (CEPLR) was founded in 2011. It was formed as part of the collaborative research initiative with Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, under the Black Carbon Research Initiative (BCRI) of Govt. of India.

The CEPLR studies helped HITS to enlist itself among one of the Associated Institutions identified by the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF), Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), Ministry of Science and Technology and the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). This was made possible through the involvement of National Carbonaceous Aerosol Programme (NCAP) as devised under the aegis of the Indian Network of Climate Change assessment (INCCA).

Vision To place itself in the leading Photonics and LIDAR research establishment in India, with a goal of embracing the entire spectrum of Photonics and LIDAR from Electronics to Enterprise; and from invention to innovation.

Centre for Aircraft Maintenance The Centre for Aircraft Maintenace (TIFAC-CORE) is a world class facility which caters to the growth and sustainability of the aviation sector. TIFAC also instituted a Centre of Relevance and Excellence (CORE) in Aircraft Maintenance with a total budget of Rs 13.72 crores jointly funded by HITS, Industry Partners and the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. CORE focuses on developing skilled manpower in the area of aircraft maintenance, synergising the strength of the institute and adequately supported by the government. The CORE will serve as a Nodel Centre for Aircraft Maintenance Training at both national and international levels. The TIFAC-CORE in Aircraft Maintenance offers Post Graduate Diploma in Aircraft Maintenance for engineering graduates and short term courses for employees of Industry. It also conducts short term training in Airframe Repair and Maintenance for industry aspirants and offers consultancy for Aviation Industry.

The Centre for Networking and Cyber Defense (CNCD) was established by the School of Computing Sciences with a purpose of carrying out research and impart knowledge in Networking and Cyber security. It is involved in doing community outreach programs to create awareness on cyber security. Machine Intelligence and Data Analysis Research Centre (MIDARC) was established by the School of Computing Sciences to provide an ideal platform for researchers to work as a community in collaboration with industry and other research institutions.It also carries out research and evolve solutions for business challenges and real time social problems.

The incubation of MIDARC happens concurrently with current digital world governed by Computational Intelligence, Big Data Analytics and Cognitive Computing.

Vision The vision of the centre is to pursue research in the areas of Machine Intelligence and Data Analytics and to foster product development with social and financial value.

The Centre for Simulation and Engineering Design (SIMENDES) is established by the School of Mechanical Sciences to promote research and training on Product Design adapting this latest practices of PLM (Product Life Cycle Management) including the reverse engineering process. The software enables the full spectrum of next generation collaborative design including system engineering, shape design and equipment engineering. The software leverages the capacity of innovation for products ranging from Mechanical,Automobile,Aeronautics to Electrical/Electronic domains. The center delivers high quality innovative product designs in a timely and cost effective manner.

Dr. KCG Verghese, Late Founder-Chairman, Hindustan Group of Institutions envisioned to have a specific upfront Centre for addressing the practical challenges faced by higher education systems in the country.
