Iam happy to share my message with you in

Hcellence 2018, the annual magazine of Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science.

The year 2017 marked the commemoration of Golden Jubilee Celebrations of Hindustan Group of Institutions, and 2018 has bid a fine closure to it being yet another significant year with notable achievements and rankings that has got HITS a great acclaim. This acclaim has indeed given us more encouraging vibes in looking forward for the next challenges.

Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science has been excelling well in all spheres, be it academic, research, or sports; and it is so promising to see the institute progressing in a great way. Hcellence 2018’s compilation is a testimony of it. I extend my wishes to the entire team of HITS for making the vision of the Founder-Chairman, Late Dr. K. C. G. Verghese, “To make every man a success and no man a failure”, attainable. This vision is a hope that anything is possible if persisted through untiring efforts.

Participating in varied trainings, competitions, and academic oriented events are the true sign of exploration and widening of knowledge; and the students and staff of HITS have done it remarkably well. All accomplishments made by the students and staff at both intra and inter college level are no mean feat, and it is my indebt duty to guide, and assist them towards success. The Annual Report column of Hcellence 2018 is a real summary of notable achievements.

I believe it would be a wonderful recollection of events, achievements, and accolades of the institution, students and staff as you flip the pages of this Hcellence 2018. Best wishes for the upcoming year.

I

t is my pleasure to know that Hcellence 2018 is making its way out for our distinguished readers and students. Over the past few months, HITS has seen a wave of academic and institutional development as part of our consistent effort to forge ahead in the everchanging trend in the current educational system. For the last few months, we have seen myriad of positive changes at HITS campus more specifically in the domain of education, environment, and sports.

At HITS, it has been our priority to bring about a regular upgradation in the educational practice in sync with the changing dynamism of modern education.

In recognition to this, the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) has awarded Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science with ‘Best University for Promoting Research’ in 2017.

We take this recognition to further enhancement of research quality and academic excellence for promoting a strong research culture at HITS on par with the global standard.

The new global awareness about the importance of environmental conservatory and climate change has not just reorient the academic perspective on it, it also has made deep inroad into global conscience. The birth of Environmental Science as an interdisciplinary academic field is a case in point. Our institution also took note of this development and actively promoting the environmental conservatory drive among our students. In recognition of this, HITS was awarded the Shrishti’s Good Green Governance 2017.

Our institution also steadfastly support and promote sporting event among our students and faculty. Youth constitutes nearly 41% percent of India’s population, so keeping up the health of our youth is a necessary criterion for India’s growth. Sporting events play a significant contributory role in maintaining the health of our nation.

HITS is aware of the significance of sports in promoting good health among our youth. We have earmarked about Rs. 2 crores worth of scholarship to facilitate our students to pursue career in sports. The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Kerala Mr. Oomen Chandy presented the Excellence Award to Mr. Ashok Verghese, Director, HITS in recognition of this. I hope the readers enjoy the pages of this magazine.

et me begin by congratulating the release of the Annual ‘Hcellence’ Magazine 2018. The release of it often evokes the fond memory of our past achievements and keeps us to strive for achieving greater heights.

The much-awaited Hcellence Magazine is celebrated for its wide-ranging coverage of all the institutional and academic related activities and achievements. It mirrors a comprehensive outlook on the institutional role HITS strives to cater for the advancement of learning. The highlights of the recently concluded Golden Jubilee celebration is a testimonial demonstration of the academic milestone our institution has achieved so far.

We aspire to have a multi-cultural academic ambience with inflow of students from all over India and abroad.

This would be an ideal academic destination for imparting pluralism and the inclusive growth of our students.

We strongly believe in promoting a high quality knowledge underpinned by the holistic education based on inner growth of our students by value added education.

HITS has had a fabulous academic year; and I am confident that the trend will continue its pace in the years to

come. We have signed MoUs with 13 foreign universities, aiming to scale up our academic excellence; and will continue to seek more academic collaborations with global universities. We witnessed as many as 128 students who participated in international students’ exchange programmes and 14 faculty taking part in research and collaboration with foreign universities.

HITS has earned several notable credits: • Ranked No. 1 among Best Technical Universities (Private) in India.

• Launch of OFO Cycles for the first time in India to promote eco-friendly travel environment.

On the cultural front, Yarona 2018 and Kalaikoodaam, a South Inter Zone Youth Cultural Fest with representations from 31 universities and over 1600 participants were so popular this year as they showcased the ethos of cultural diversity of India. Such activities truly help us to promote the sense of harmonious coexistence and mutual respect amongst the youth.

I’m overwhelmed with pride and pleasure as I observe the progress being made at Hindustan Institute of

Technology and Science. It has been a busy year at HITS with its remarkable achievements. I am marveled at the breadth of activities organized by our Institute.

HITS nurtures the culture where students can pursue their noble quests, grounded in passion, purpose and pragmatism. The Institute is leaving no stone unturned in providing high-quality, relevant and innovative degree programs tailored to meet the needs of today’s students and employers.

The importance extended to co-curricular and extra-curricular along with curricular activities has brought laurels to the Institute. These efforts of the Institute are bestowed with ‘The Great Patron of Sports and Games Award’ for the Vision, Infrastructure, appropriate process and personnel to promote Sports and Games among the youth in India (FICCI CASCADE). I’m also proud that IET has acclaimed HITS as one of the best private universities for its stupendous efforts in the field of Technical education.

Greatly happy to note the release of Hcellence 2018, our annual magazine.

Reading the pages of the magazine proves a clear indication of commitment and enthusiasm shown by the editorial team in compilation. The issue has meticulously captured all the academic, cultural, and co-curricular activities of both student and staff members of HITS. It is truly marvelling to note the heights the institution has attained over the past few decades; and the accolades bagged by the institution this academic year is proof of it.

To mention few accomplishments, HITS has got approval from All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) for the academic year 2018-19, 5S Certification from TUV Rheinland for successfully implementing 5S Work Dr. Pon. Ramalingam Place Management System, ‘Best University for Promoting Research’ award from ASSOCHAM. All these has made HITS as one of the most sought after Registrar institutions for enrolment.

n keeping up with the deep-rooted traditions and work culture at HITS, the Department of Administration reached out to various departments to facilitate smooth functioning of them. Some of the significant highlights of the contributions made are: Visit of Smt. Nirmala Seetharaman, Hon’ble Defence Minister of India and dignitaries hailing from India and abroad to the Stall exhibited by HITS at DEFEXPO-2018; Construction of state of the art Labs, classrooms & seminar halls in Jubilee Block; Modernization of labs & establishment of ‘Smart Class Rooms’; Installation of yet another state of the art Flight Simulator & establishment of modern conference hall in the School of Aeronautical Engineering; Upgradation of Fire Safety systems in the Main Block; Commissioning of modern kitchen facilities in Jupiter Hostel for boys; Extension of stables for the horses for the Hindustan Riding Club; and Upgradation of indoor Badminton court with attractive interiors and synthetic flooring.

The level of ISRIL is unparalleled in terms of its quality and standard. The seminar resonates with the present day reality of the global order in terms of trade, politics and languages.

Across the billion-human population, it is only through a few chosen human languages which enable better understanding, deepening cultural integration and alignment of global order in a new height.

The defining feature of ISRIL is the participation and paper presentation done by some of the illustrious figures in the field of language, diplomacy and academic world. The seminar was not just oriented towards the domain of linguistic world alone, the objective of ISRIL also transgressed the otherwise unexplored pedagogical terrain of languages in the contemporary multicultural world. It expanded our imagination on the need and relevance of mastering world languages for the promotion of a more culturally integrated world.

The level of seminar as organized by the Department of Languages not just reflects the sincere commitment from the part of faculty members but it also ushers in a promising Centre for Languages at HITS soon. It is with my full confidence, HITS can organize many more conferences and seminars of this level in the future for the benefits of our students. Thank you very much.

I had one of the best eye opening experiences at HITS, the visit has truly enlightened me to understand the great academic standard prevailing in this educational institution. The bustling activities on the campus among students exude creative energy and sense of learning. I am sure students of HITS have great agendas of learning, achieving and excelling in life. Happy Onam to all! What a riveting gathering I had with all the lovely and energetic students of HITS. I have had long been awaited to make a visit to HITS, the institution loved by all and enamoured with all over the country.

The beautiful campus of HITS and the spirited student community perfectly infused with the harmony of my Onam music. It is interesting to note that HITS being a premier technological university in the country, it also has phenomenal cultural life and programs.

The campus has a fine balance between scientific temperament and cultural participations among the students, an extremely harmonious blending of culture and science for the students.

Besides, it is encouraging to know that the management Mr. Vijay Yesudas of HITS is actively encouraging students to take part Singer in cultural activity apart from their study; I personally believe it is a wise approach to strike a fine balance between the growth of emotional hygiene and academic achievement of students. It is rare to see in the country the milestone with which HITS is achieving both in the academic and cultural fields. HITS is indeed a university with its own distinction and class. I sincerely pray HITS would still hold on to the momentum it has reached so far and serve as an exemplary figure for other academic institutions across the country.

It feels so good to be back to my alma mater after a life-changing event of winning a TV show. And I felt only humbleness and simplicity as I step my foot here.

I almost went back to my days as a student of this wonderful campus where the air was filled with all kinds of emotions that any student would undergo. I felt a great sense of gratitude run through my nerve as I met my former mentors who showed me the light of knowledge and guided me in righteous path. The new facilities added to the institution is an indication of the interest of the Management in upgrading the institution to meet the current global requirements.

I congratulate HITS for celebrating its Golden Jubilee recently. And I’m completely delighted to participate in Golden Convergence 2018, HGI Global Jubilee Alumni Reunion and get to meet my friends in one gathering.

THE GOLDEN JUBILEE ANNIVERSARY VALEDICTORY CELEBRATIONS OF HINDUSTAN GROUP OF INSTITUTIONS (HGI)

The Hindustan Group of Institutions (HGI) has completed 50 years of meritorious service in the field of higher education and recently celebrated its Golden Jubilee Anniversary. Many programmes were conducted by Hindustan Institute of Technology & Science (HITS) as part of HGI Golden Jubilee Celebrations. Dr. KCG Verghese Excellence Awards 2018 on 29th July 2017; and Golden Convergence 2018 – HGI Global Jubilee Alumni Reunion – a Mega Alumni Event by HGI in association with their Alumni Associations, on 2nd December were some of the notable events. The HGI Golden Jubilee Celebrations, culminated with the valedictory function, held on 16th March 2018. Shri. M. Venkaiah Naidu, Hon’ble Vice President of India was the Chief Guest; His Grace The Most Rev Dr. Joseph Mar Thoma, Metropolitan, Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church; Shri. Banwarilal Purohit, Hon’ble Governor of Tamil Nadu were the Special Guests; and Shri. Bharat Joshi, Deputy High Commissioner, British High Commission, Chennai; and Shri. D. Jayakumar, Hon’ble Minister for Fisheries & Personnel and Administrative Reforms, Govt. of Tamil Nadu were the Guests of Honours for the function.

INSTITUTION AWARDS

Hindustan Institute of Technology & Science (HITS) received many institution awards this year.

• NIRF Rankings 2018 placed HITS in 150-200 band in the Overall Ranking of Institutions, 100-150 band among Universities, 100-150 band in Engineering and 75-100 band in Management.

• The UGC – AICTE Joint Review Committee visited HITS from 14th to 16th September 2017 and gave report of approval for the renewal of Deemed to be University Status for the Institution.

• Awarded the prestigious “National Education Excellence Awards 2018” under “Best Institute Providing Global Exposure” and “Best B-School for Promoting Industry – Academia Interface” categories during 11th ASSOCHAM Higher Education Summit 2018 ceremony held on 17th February 2018, in New Delhi.

• Ranked 41st position among All India Top Engineering Institutes and the 26th position among Top Private Engineering Institutes in TIMES Engineering Institute Ranking Survey 2017.

• “Best Institutional Award” by Institution of Engineers (India), Tamil Nadu.

• “Best Cyber Security Education Institution Award of the Year 2017” by Data Security Council of India (DSCI) – NASSCOM Excellence Awards.

• “Best Accredited Student Branch Award” from Computer Society of India.

• The School of Architecture, HITS won the “Conventional Trophy” in ZONASA 2017 (Zone 6) on 10th November 2017.

• The School of Management obtained AAA in India’s B-School Rating 2018 conducted by Careers360 Magazine.

• The School of Management secured 116th position at the National Level in the Week Best B School 2017.

• Awarded a “Shield” for mobilizing over 500 blood donors during the year 2016-17 by the Madras Voluntary Blood Bureau.

NEW INITIATIVES

Establishment of Centre for Higher Education Leadership and Management (HELM) on 12th July 2017.

INFRASTRUCTURE & FACILITIES

In keeping with our commitment to continuous, a need-based enhancement of infrastructure and modernization of facilities, the Management had added new hi-tech Academic Buildings to include labs, class rooms & Hostels.

Further, existing facilities have been upgraded to meet the emerging needs of students in the global education environment. Some major projects executed are: • Jubilee Academic & Research Centre, with state of the art Lecture Theatres, Seminar Halls, Labs, Smart Class Rooms and so on. This complex was inaugurated on 16th March 2018 by Shri M. Venkiah Naidu, Hon’ble Vice President of India.

• Jupiter Hostel for boys, to cater for multiple needs of students’ under one roof, is one of the ‘star attractions’ towards enriching the campus life. While Phase -1, accommodates 450 students, Phase -2 intends to house over 2000 inmates.

• The Schools of Building Science & Aeronautical Science have been modernized with requisite studios, staff rooms & state of the art Simulator Centres respectively.

• 14 students of Team “Astra” participated in SAE Aero Design West Competition 2017 at USA and won 5th position in overall competition in Advanced Class category.

• 3 final year B. Tech. Aerospace students were a part of KALAMSAT – World Lightest Satellite Team which was launched on Terrier–Improved Orion Rocket on 22nd June 2017 from Wallops Island, US. The Aeronautical Society of India, Chennai Branch recognized the students’ achievement by awarding them “Excellence Award” during its Annual General Body Meeting on 4th August 2017.

• 9 students of Team “Kratos” participated in SAE Aero Design East Competition 2018 at USA and secured II Position in Asia Pacific Region in both Presentation & Design Report. Overall Competition XI in Advanced Class Category.

• 4th year, B.Tech., Aero final year students successfully tested the ‘Solid Fuel Ramjet Rocket (SFRJ) ‘ on 3rd April 2018. The entire experimental setup and propellants cost was around Rs. 30,000/- with limited resources. It is one of the cheapest SFRJs and the scope of the system is immense.

• B.Tech. Aero students won I Place in 2nd Aero. Design Challenge Best Innovation Award held at Anna University, Chennai on 10th June 2017.

PLACEMENT

The placement department strives to achieve its objective of placing all eligible students by interacting with corporate world continuously. To support the placement team, the training department enhances the employability and soft skills that are required by the recruiters by conducting pre-placement training programmes. A total of 31 companies have visited so far and recruited 126 students. Around 25 companies are expected to visit campus this year for recruitment. By the year end, the percentage of placement would be 70%. 7 dream status companies offering a CTC of more than Rs. 5 Lakhs per annum visited this year. Amazon Development Centre India offered the highest CTC of Rs.15 Lakhs per annum. Indian Navy, Infosys, IBM, Servion, HSBC, SANMAR, Saint Gobain Glass, Mckinsey, Zoho, TATA and AIG are some of the reputed organizations who visited campus this year.

ALUMNI ACTIVITIES

Alumni Reunions organized by HITS during the academic year 2017-2018.

• HCE’s fourth batch engineering graduates (1988-1992) celebrated their 25th Year Reunion on 5th August 2017 at the University campus. They organized an interactive session with students on many emerging trends like International Trading, Art of Negotiating, Corporate Finance, Self-Reliance-Creating Opportunities, Scope of Engineers in Aviation Sector on 4th August 2018.

• First batch of MCA (1994-1997) students visited campus on 21st July 2017. They felicitated the teachers and staff of their department. They were taken on a campus tour and they appreciated the significant changes and growth of the campus.

• Hindustan Group of Institutions celebrated its Golden Jubilee year with great pomp and festivity. To commemorate this historic occasion, Golden Convergence 2018 – HGI Global Jubilee Alumni Reunion – A mega Alumni event was organized by HGI in association with their alumni Associations, on 2nd December 2017, at HITS campus, Padur. It was a grand and memorable reunion that witnessed the conglomeration of over 1000 Alumni of HIET, HCE/HITS, KCG College of Technology, HCAS & OFS who travelled from various parts of the globe to participate in the reunion along with their families.

• Bag to School Project: NSS Cell coordinated the “Bag to School Project” in association with Y’s Men Club of Mylapore on 17th June 2017. Around 1000 government school students were given bag, notebook, and dictionary each. The programme was inaugurated by Ysm. Dr. Anand Jacob Verghese.

• NSS Day Celebration: NSS Cell of HITS, Rotary Club of Chennai Capital (RCCC) and Rotaract club of HITS jointly organized Blood Donation Camp on the eve of NSS Day, 23rd September 2017, and collected 188 units of blood from the students and staff.

Celebrations Christmas Celebration

The Golden Jubilee Christmas Celebrations on 1st December 2017 was a momentous for HITS with excellent choir rendition of carols and tableau with pomp and gaiety by the entire HGI. The Chief Guest, Rt. Rev. Dr. Mathews Mar Makarios, Bishop of Mar Thoma Church, Chennai-Bangalore Diocese in his Christmas message said that the message of Christmas is that the visible material world is bound to the invisible spiritual world. The Guest of Honour, Prof. P. J. Kurien, Hon’ble Deputy Chairman, Rajya Sabha voiced that Christmas is a spirit which should permeate every part of our lives.

HITS celebrated the harvest festival of ‘Pongal’ with great zeal and fervor. Decked in traditional dresses, students and staff filled the campus with the land’s cultural aura.

Ponnonam 2017 was celebrated by the Hindustan Group of Institution as a part of its Golden Jubilee Year celebrations on 26th August 2017. Famous Singer and Actor Mr. Vijay Yesudas was the Chief Guest.

World Theatre Day

The Department of Languages hosted the “World Drama Fest 2018 commemorating the World Theatre Day on 27th March 2018.

Dr. Pon Ramalingam, Registrar, HITS welcomed the august gathering. Dr. Mrs. Elizabeth Verghese, Chancellor, HGI gave the Presidential address. Dr. Kuncheria P. Isaac, Vice Chancellor read the Annual Report comprising the notable accomplishments of the institute, staff and the students.

Staff awards were given for distinguished services; and Academic Proficiency Awards and Special Achievements Awards were given to students for excellence in academia. The event also witnessed the release of Campus Talk, the newsletter of HITS; and installation of Students Council 2018-2019.

Girl Power Summit, an initiative from Entrepreneurs Council of India in association with HITS was conducted on 11th March 2018.

Eminent women achievers from various sectors were invited for motivational talks and panel discussions. As a part of Women’s Day celebrations, competitions were conducted for both students and staff category and winners were recognized with awards during the summit

• Second year students team won “India’s Biggest Bottle Rocket Challenge” competition held at Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan College of Engineering and Technology on 15th October 2017 towards the celebration of late Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam’s 86th birthday. “India Book of Records” awarded their rocket.

With a huge collection of over 2,10,000 volumes of Books, 389 International/National Periodicals in print, Back volumes and over 3500 CDs/DVDs, the library houses more than 42,000 e-journals and 35,000 e-books with online databases viz. IEEE, EMERALD, SPINGER LINK, SCIENCE DIRECT, PROQUEST, EBSCO etc. The Digital Library is automated with LIBSYS software and contains 60 Apple i-Mac systems and 10 i-pads, Laptops and Kindle with internet access.

• The Newton Fund Royal Academic of Engineering released rupees 45.12 lakhs for Dr. A.K. Parvathy, Dr. Deiva Sundari and Dr. Devabalaji’s combined research on “Optional Dispatch of Virtual Power Plant using Cyber–Physical controller for Realtime EMS.” The project is intended to last for a period of two years starting from 6th March 2018.

• Dr. D. Dinakaran begged NRB (DRDO) sponsored project worth rupees 9.82 lakhs on “Development of Ultra-re-opens gas Pinging System” for a period of six months on 16th October 2017.

• Dr. K. Ramajeyathilagam and Mr. C. Suresh’s undertook a research project on “Coupled fluidstructure interaction studies due to underwater explosion around submerged composite pressure hull”, was sanctioned by NRB (DRDO) to the tune of rupees 39.6 lakhs on 24th August 2017.

• Dr. M. M. Ramya and Dr. D. Dinakaran are jointly undertaking a research project on “Low cost patient assistive Robot”. The Newton Fund Royal Academic of Engineering has released a whopping sum of rupees 44.99 Lakhs to assist their research task.

The Centre aims to carry out research and impart knowledge in Networking and Cyber Security. It is involved in doing community outreach programs to create awareness about cyber security. CNCD initiated a students’ community portal called the Kruptos Security Club where weekly sessions and discussions on various modules of Cyber Security is being held.

• 6th Graduation Ceremony for Professional Diploma in Cyber Investigations and Laws was organized on 27th October 2017.

• The student members of the Kryptos Security Club organized a course on “Web Application Penetration Testing” every Saturdays during the months of February, March and April.

• Professional Diploma in Cyber Investigation laws is offered in collaboration with HTC-ITMR to help working professionals scale up and meet the challenges in the field of cyber security.

• Industry collaborated courses like Cloud Computing & Virtualization, Business Analytics & Optimization, IT Infrastructure & Management and Cloud Computing Architecture were offered in collaboration with IBM.

ONGOING RESEARCH PROJECT

A project titled “To Study and Develop Composite Track Guard Fuel Tanks with Polyurea Coating on the Striking Face for Futuristic AFV” worth Rupees 21.5 lakhs is under process. This is a full scale product development work using a new composite material system involving all phases of product design activities like CAD modeling, Finite Element Analysis for Structural Integrity and Impact strength, Static & Cyclic Pressure Testing and finally the bullet resistance testing.

Commenced a Value Added Training Certificate Course on “Computer Aided Design by using CATIA.” The 1st batch for 30 trainees was successfully conducted on 15th March 2017. Currently, the 2nd and 3rd batches are undergoing training.

• The Centre invited M/s Six Phrase the Finishing School & M/s Smart Training Resources to conduct a preplacement training program for the students of 2017-2018 batch. 126 hours were devoted to cover wideranging topics such as Communication Skill, Effective Listening, Public Speaking, Creative Thinking, Goal Setting, Team Building and Aptitude from 17th July to 5th August, 2017.

• M\s Eddica conducted preplacement training programme to the MBA students on the topics such as Pre Assessment & Psychometric analysis, Reasoning Aptitude, Verbal Aptitude, Communication Workshop, Presentation Skills, Work place etiquettes, Resume Building and Evaluation, Public Speaking, Situational Conversation and Interview Skills on 22nd January 2018.

• A two-day Faculty Development Program on “Virtual Manufacturing Simulation and 3D printing” was jointly launched by the Training Department and M/s. CADD Centre Training Services Pvt. Ltd. to the faculty members of Aeronautical Engineering, Automobile Engineering and Mechanical Engineering departments. The program was conducted from 27th March to 28th March 2018.

• M/s Six Phrase conducted a preplacement training programme to the students upon completion of Volkswagen’s Advanced Diploma in Autotronics on 17th April 2018.

Placement for 2017-18 witnessed a growth over the previous year. IBM, Infosys, Accenture, Amazon Development Center India, Zoho, Servion, Ramco Systems, Sanmar, Vestas R&D India, Mckinsey, IDBI, Tata AIG, HSBC, Data Patterns to name a few visited campus this year. In spite of downward trend in recruitment of novices due to technology disruptions in Industry, students of HITS surpassed the previous year’s placement record. Zoho Corp, Vestas, HSBC, Amazon, Ramco Systems are few companies that offered more than Rs.4.50 Lakhs per annum as CTC.

Sports Meet 2018 Glimpses of the Annual Sports Meet celebrated on 28th March 2018. Dr. P. Poonia, Vice Chairman, AICTE & UGC Nominee in the Planning and Monitoring Board, HITS was the Chief Guest; and Mr. R. Mohan Kumar, Olympian, Rio Olympics 2016 was the Guest of Honour.

Chancellor’s Trophy In honouring Dr. Elizabeth Verghese on the Chancellor’s birthday, a sports extravaganza was hosted from 23rd to 25th September, 2017. To honour the special occasion, tournaments such as the 9th International Football Tournament for Foreign National Students, and the 8th Inter Collegiate Volleyball Tournament for Men and Women were organized. The participant football teams hailed from several countries such as Gambia, Sudan, South Sudan, Bhutan, Nepal, Tibet and Somalia. The team Gambia XI lifted the winning men’s football trophy. The award for the 8th Inter College Volleyball Tournament in Men and Women category was bagged each by men from Panimalar College and women from HITS. Dr. Elizabeth Verghese presented the Trophies, Cash Award and Certificate to the winners.

Youth Winter Camp Youth Winter Residential Camp was organized by PBA Academy in association with HITS between 22nd December 2017 and 3rd January 2018. Alumni Reunion

• The fourth batch of HCE (1988-1992) celebrated their 25th reunion on 5th August 2017 at HITS campus. The reunion took place amidst a host of activities with student body including discussions on Art of Negotiating, Corporate Finance, Self-Reliance, Creating Opportunities and Scope of Engineers in Aviation Sector.

• The first batch of MCA (1994-1997) visited campus on 21st July 2017. They felicitated the teachers and staff of their department. They had a campus tour and were greatly appreciative about the significant achievement and transformation on the campus.

• The fifth batch of HCE (Class of 1993) celebrated the Silver Jubilee Reunion on 7th July 2018. The event was attended by Deans, Retired Professors, and HoDs who were a part of the batch.

Golden Convergence 2018

The Hindustan Group of Institutions celebrated its Golden Jubilee Year in a high anticipatory note. To commemorate this historic occasion, the Golden Convergence 2018 – HGI Global Jubilee Alumni Reunion, a mega Alumni gathering was organized by HGI in association with their alumni Associations, on 2nd December 2017. The conglomeration of over 1000 Alumni from HIET, HCE/HITS, KCG College of Technology, HCAS & OFS across the globe took part in the event.

GYAN DISHA

GYAN DISHA, a Project Expo was organized for the final year engineering students and faculty on 8th May 2018.

This alumni sponsored event had 15 jury members who comprised former various Industry and Entrepreneurship background. The Government funding was announced for over 15 projects and over 20 Projects were selected for patent applications. The event aimed at creating an interactive platform for Alumni and Students exchange programs in the future. It is expected to generate increasing placement synergy, career guidance, spot Recruitments, patent filing and Govt funding for Entrepreneur initiatives for our students. All the schools were granted three alumni sponsored cash prize and all the participants received participation certificate.

Success Day

The Success Day was organized in collaboration with Placement Cell, HITSAA. The objective of the Success Day was to recognize individual student’s academic achievement at the time of his or her graduation from HITS. Upon finding placements at various high brand companies, students were presented mementos of T-Shirt and Recognition Certificate for their achievement.

• Organized “Rain Coat to Schools” project for over 1000 students of Govt. run-schools in association with the Y’s Men Club of Mylapore on 24thNovember 2017.

• Organized “Feeding 1000 poor children” project of Koothavakkam village in association with Y’s Men Club of Mylapore on 19th November 2017.

AWARENESS CAMP

• Awareness campaign on “Blood Cancer & Stem Cells Donation” in association with DATRI was organized on 28th March 2018. Over 500 students registered for donating the blood stem cells.

• Awareness campaign on “Pollution free Diwali” was conducted on 12th October 2017 at Padur village.

BLOOD DONATION CAMP

• Blood banks of Adyar Cancer Institute, VHS and MGR Medical Institute collected 430 Units of blood from the students and staff of HITS on 14th February 2018.

• Organized “Blood Donation Camp” in association with RCCC, RCHU and Madras Voluntary Blood on 23rd September 2017. Rtn. Alok Mimani, District President RI District 3232 inaugurated the camp. The blood banks from Government Hospital and VHS collected 188 units of blood from the students and staff members.

• Celebrated Swachhta Pakhwada from 1st to 15th September 2017 and conducted the cleanliness drive campaign in the nearby villages, orphanage and hospitals. Over 100 volunteers partook in this event.

• School bags, Dictionary, T shirts, and Caps were given away to over 115 students of St. Joseph’s Children Home, Koothavakkam.

• About 120 Mosquito nets were distributed to the needy people near Thirupporur.

NASA to launch JAIHIND The world’s lightest satellite weighing 33.39 grams.

Space exploration is ever succeeding and efforts to experiment it is never ending. “JAIHIND - 1S”, an experimental satellite made by 3D printed Nylon, and weighing only 33.39 grams has all chance to set a new world record as the world’s lightest satellite.

The satellite is a brainchild of a team of four Aeronautical Engineering Students designed for a competition conducted by Colorado space Grant Consortium, NASA and idoodle-learning. The prime aim of the satellite is to check the working of nylon in microgravity. Further, it gives the details about temperature, pressure, altitude, UV ray intensity, acceleration in x, y and z direction, pitch, yaw, rolling movement of the satellite cum rocket or balloon, humidity and lapse rate at various altitudes. The satellite contains pressure sensor, UV sensor, and path measuring sensors which are connected to an onboard computer and kept inside the cube made of nylon 6 polymer. The cube is examined with SEM and the molecular arrangements were studied before shipping. Once the cube is retrieved, it would be tested on several parameters to study the characteristics of Nylon-6.
