The Christmas Celebration of Hindustan Group of Institutions was held on 15 December 2022 at HITS Bay Range Campus. The event was presided over by Dr. Elizabeth Verghese, Founder-Chancellor, Hindustan Group of Institutions. The Chief Guest was Rt. Rev. Dr. Mathews Mar Makarios Episcopa, Bishop of Chennai – Bangalore Diocese, Mar Thoma Church who briefed the significance of Christmas which is moving from darkness to light through real-life incidents, stories and excerpts from the Holy Bible. The Guest of Honour was Dr. Joseph Thomas, Vice President and Business Head-Americas at Wipro Infrastructure Engineering. The other notable dignitaries to grace the occasion were Dr. Anand Jacob Verghese, Chancellor, Mr. Ashok Verghese, Pro Chancellor, officials, staff and students of HGI. Choirs from HGI presented their carol rendition. The winners of the competition are as follows:

CAROL THE KING - Winners

Under the Open Category which included Churches/Organizations the first prize was won by E-Ministry, Tambaram; the Second Prize by Staves Choir Group, Chennai; and third was won by St Stephen’s Tamil Church, Pallavaram. In the College Category the first prize under the College Category was won by Patrician College of Arts and Science, Adyar. The second and third position were won by Madras Medical Mission College of Health Sciences and Alpha Arts and Science College respectively. The winners under the school category are: first prize are Sacred Heart International School, Marthandam; second prize; Union Christian Public School, Chennai; and the third prize was won by MCC Campus Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Chennai.

The Advent Choral Contest- an Inter-Departmental Carol Singing - Winners

First: Department of Languages; Second: School of Management; and Third: Department of Computer Applications.

BIBLIA 2022, the Annual Bible Quiz - Winners

Open Category (Churches/Organizations) – first: Thomas Chacko and Tessy Ann Thomas, Jerusalem Mar Thoma Syrian Church, Annanagar; second: Dr. Jacintha M and Dr. Bijin Oliver John, Evangelical Medical Fellowship of India; third: Neena Vinoy & Anne Philip, Madras Mar Thoma Syrian Church, Chetpet. Under the College Category: First: P. Sam Abishek and S. Aaron Kumar, Loyola College, Nungambakkam; Second: Dr. Lighty George and Dr. S. Selva Pon Malar, Sarah Tucker College, Tirunelveli; Third: Bridget Martina M, Alpha Arts and Science College. School Category – First: Tryphena Raizel and K. Renita Carlin Selina, Christwood School, Chennai; Second: Norah Katelyn and Ashish B Zechariah, Christwood School, Chennai; Third: Jenefa Koilpillai and M. Jenivaa Koilpillai, Alpha Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Chennai. Biblia 2022 for Hindustan Group of Institutions. Under the college category, the first three positions were won by the staff and students of HITS. First: Dr. H. Ebenezer & Dr. C. Kezi Selva Vijila; Second: Dr. D. Sathya Seeli & Dr. N. Ruth Naveena; and third: Ms. Sarah Mathew and Ms. Sneha Titus. And the winners under the school category are: First: Ann Sandra J S & Jenita Rachel C, HIS, Karapakkam; Rodriguez Russ Remington and Helena Stephie Angelin, Karapakkam; and third: Edward Emmanuel P and Haniel Arvin Samuel, HIS, Karappakkam.

Pongal

Pongal, the festival of harvest was celebrated on 14 January 2023. The Chief Guest for the celebration was Thiru. S. S Balaji, MLA of the Thiruporur Constituency and the Guest of Honour was Dr.Sharmila Balaji, General Physician, Actress and Social Activist. Thiru. S. S Balaji emphasised the importance of agriculture and the efforts by the Government to enhance it. He appreciated HITS for celebrating the thanksgiving festival of farmers. He urged the students to consider farming as a profession. The Guest of Honour, Dr. Sharmila, briefed the efforts and hardwork of farmers in bringing food to the dining table and said that they should not be neglected. The officials of the Institution also participated in the celebration which witnessed Traditional folk dance performances such as, Thappattam, Karakattam, Oyilattam and Maadattam by Damuru, the Band. Also the Pongal dish was cooked live and served to the guests. The staff and students participated in traditional games, construction of a makeshift hut and rangoli making.

Onam

The Ponnonam '22 was graced by the presence of Dr. Elizabeth Verghese, Chancellor, HITS and Ms. Parvati Nair, Indian Actress as chief guests. With the lighting of ceremonial lamp and key address marked the message of joy and celebrations for the festivities. The event was lit with various forms of decor ranging from Athapookalam competition to cultural programme garnering the participation of students and staffs alike. Stellar performances of Mohiniyattam, Thiruvathira, Melam, Group Singing, Fusion Dance, Singari Melam and many more created a wave of joy and vibrancy at HITS! The event concluded on a delicious note with traditional Onam Sadhya.
