Inaugurations
10 August 2021 is a significant day in the history of Hindustan Institute of Technology & Science. The day marks the Inauguration of Centre for Open and Digital Education (CODE) and the Unveiling of “Symphony at the Jubilee”, the mural at the Jubilee Block. CODE is an inclusive online learning platform of Hindustan launched to spread the light of knowledge to seekers who cannot physically join an Institution for higher studies. It aims to empower, enrich, enhance career prospects and enable inclusive education accessible anywhere. Thiru. Dr. K. Ponmudi, Hon’ble Minister of Higher Education, Govt. of Tamil Nadu presided over the event as the Chief Guest and unveiled the CODE plaque. Prof. M. P. Poonia, Vice Chairman, AICTE graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour. Col. Dr. G. Thiruvasagam, President, Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi; and Thiru. S. S. Symphony at the Jubilee Inaugurated by

Symphony is a lengthy form of musical composition for orchestra. Alike Symphony, “Symphony at the Jubilee'' is a befitting name to a thoroughly conceived concept which has visually merchandised the steely resolve, and unfathomable vision of Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science. Every element of the mural symbolizes the integration of pioneering programmes and courses in a single location, the Bay Range Campus. All the mural items like hexagon, human & robot hand with spark, DNA representation, lady as a fashion icon, and letters were made in fibre material. The erection began with the help of a giant crane, and was fixed meticulously. “Symphony at the Jubilee'' is a mark of the graduands of varied disciplines who are inculcated with requisite skills and knowledge to meet the growing industry needs.

Inaugurations
A grand launch of "Sound Works", a recording studio of Department Visual Communication, School of Liberal Arts and Applied Sciences (SLAAS), at the Bay range campus, HITS was unveiled by Mr. Darbuka Siva, Music Director; and Mr. P.W.C. Mr. Davidar, Retired IAS Officer on 17 December 2021. Mr. Sameer Bharath Ram, CEO, Sameer Ventures presided as the special guest. "Sound Works" is equipped with state-of-the-art facility consisting a live room equipped with microphones and mic stands; and a console room equipped with Yamaha TFI mixing console and audio recording software. "Sound Works" also houses various musical instruments such as keyboard, drums, miruthangam and guitars for practice.
Motion Control & Human Machine Interaction Laboratory
The Centre of Automation & Robotics (ANRO) established Motion Control Laboratory and Human Machine Interaction Laboratory to support the academic activities of Mechatronics and Robotics programme and to carry out focused research on Advanced Robotic Technology. The laboratories were inaugurated by Dr. G. Satheesh Reddy, Secretary, Department of Defence R&D, and Chairman, DRDO, New Delhi on 11 January 2021.

The School of Aeronautical Sciences was selected by AICTE to offer M. Tech. Defence Technology programme. The launch of the programme and Workshop on “Engineering & Design Challenges in Defence Systems Development” was organised on 29 October 2021. Dr. Tessy Thomas, Director General Aeronautical Systems (AS), DRDO; and Dr. V. Ramanujachari, Former Director DRDO, CSIR Bhatnagar Fellow, IIT-M presided over the occasion as Chief Guests. The Workshop addressed topics such as “Airborne System Design and Development”, “Futuristic Aero Engines”, and “Damage Assessment of Aerospace & Marine Defence Vehicles for Weapon Threats”.

CANSAT
Achievements Team HELIX comprising Aeronautical & Aerospace Engineering students participated in CANSAT-2021 competition organised by American Astronautical Society (AAS) in collaboration with NASA Goddard Space Flight Centre in an online mode on 18 June 2021. A total of 42 teams from all over the world got selected for the finals out of which, Team HELIX secured 16th rank globally and 5th position in India. The objective of Team HELIX was to make a CANSAT which deploys two bio mimicked payloads, in the shape of a maple seed. The payloads carry electronics of its own and relays data to the ground station. Several tests including Drop test, Thermal test, Fit Check, Vibration test, Vacuum test were performed. The mission profile was simulated by inputting various pressure values into the CANSAT using the ground station software. The data from cansat were published live to the judges using mqtt.

F/Cdt. Aparajethaa K., II Year B. Tech. Aerospace has published two poetry collections: “A Hundred Little Words” and “Poetic Dictionary”. Drafting under the pen name Rudhraa K., she says that she started writing very few works initially just to express her emotions and thoughts; and later, it transitioned to a hobby during the initial pandemic months. “After the release of my first book, I now do poetry and novel writing as a part-time or second stream in my life”, says Rudhraa. The Office of Student Affairs felicitated Rudhraa on 11 September 2021 as a symbol of appreciation.

Mr. Prakash Navdeep, I Year B.Tech., Aerospace Engineering, walked away with the Newtonian Parabolic Mirror Telescope and the Runner Up title in the prestigious Indian Space Science Olympiad conducted during December 2021. Mr. Navdeep had to clear a preliminary online exam, and appear for a 3-day online workshop followed by the final online exam and a paper presentation to take this laurel.

HITS Music Club participated in “Literosody Fest 2022”, a virtual Music Band competition organized by DG Vaishnav College, Chennai on 6 January 2022. Band W.O.M.A.N. won FIRST place by performing a mashup of “Girl on Fire” by Alicia Keys ft. Nicki Minaj and “Fight Song” by Rachel Platten. Dr. Peter Koenig, Professor & Head, Institute for Automotive Technology, Trier University of Applied Sciences, Germany inaugurated OKINAWA – HITS Skill Next Centre, at the Department of Automobile Engineering on 5 March 2022, aiming to make students competent in the EV market. As the automobile industry is facing shortage of talented and skilled engineers needed for the transition to electric vehicles, this centre was set up to fill that gap and gain an edge through industry ready curriculum design.
Her Excellency Dr. Grace Akello, Ambassador of Uganda to India inaugurated the Texas Instruments Innovation Centre (TIIC), at the Department of ECE on 5 March 2022, formed in association with Edgate Technologies, so as to bridge the gap between industry experts and academia through TI engagement programme that provides handson experience in technologies related to Ultra-Low Power Applications, Embedded System, IoT, Robotics Labs with Brain Wave Technology, and Wireless Sensor Monitoring.
Mr. Kris Gopalakrishnan, Co-Founder, Infosys inaugurated the WK Kellogg Food Analysis Laboratory, at the Department of Food Technology on 5 March 2022, which aims to provide practical and theoretical training on the conversion of raw agricultural produce into processed, packaged, shelfstable food products; and also helps in the establishment, maintenance and assurance of food quality.

About the Patent:
The invention of an Intelligent Overtaking Assistance System that is powered by Internet-of-Things to assist the driver while he or she is manoeuvring the vehicle around a blind spot such as a hairpin bend or any other roads such as intersections, roundabouts, or multi-lane roads.
Mr. Ashok Verghese, Director, Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science visited the mega Expo 2020 hosted by Dubai in the United Arab Emirates on 21 November 2021. Themed “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”, the expo had three subthemes: Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability, each with its own pavilion (opened only for a limited time before the main Expo). The opening declaration of Dubai Expo 2020 was made by the Emir of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Hammour House exploring coral reefs; a district stage that seats 300; Brazil’s Walk through a Waterfall; the Czech Republic’s Water the Desert; Singapore’s Enter a rainforest; Germany’s Wear cutting-edge devices; Netherlands’ Enter a miniature world pavilion; world’s largest passenger lift capable of transporting more than 160 people captured the attention of the crowd. Commenced on 30 September 2021, the Expo is said to run for six months till March 2022.

The 12th Convocation of Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science (HITS) was celebrated gloriously in two days on 5 & 7 March 2022. In the forenoon session of Day – 1 of the Convocation, Mr. Kris Gopalakrishnan, Co-Founder, Infosys presided over as the Chief Guest; and H.E. Dr. Grace Akello, Ambassador of Uganda to India; and Mr. Priyadarshan, Indian Filmmaker graced the occasion as the Guests of Honour. Similarly, in the afternoon session of Day – 1, Dr. Peter Koenig Professor & Head, Institute for Automotive Technology, Trier University of Applied Sciences, Germany presided over as the Guest of Honour. During the Day – 2 of the Convocation, Dr. Saravanan, President & Chief Technology Officer, Ashok Leyland Ltd., and Dr. Kamal Kishore Sharma, Fellow of IIM – A, Director General, Taxila Business School, Jaipur presided as the Guests of Honour in the forenoon and afternoon sessions respectively. Razzle Dazzle 7.0
Graduation Fashion Show 2021 Razzle Dazzle 7.0 showcased the best designs of the graduating batch of 2021 from B.Sc. Fashion Design of Hindustan Institute of Science and Technology and B.Tech. Fashion Technology of KCG College of Technology. The event was grandly convened on 24 September at the Hilton Hotel, Chennai, under the guidance and coordination of stylist & choreographer Ms. Prajanya Anand, with the support of leading professional models and fashion experts. The evening's honourees included the fatherdaughter duo, music composer Mr. Santhosh Narayanan, and the viral 'Enjoy Enjamee' star Ms. Dhee. Razzle Dazzle 7.0 included individual collections ranging from avantgarde, street wear to eco-dyed and heritage Indian textiles with in depth exploration of colours, silhouettes and surface design techniques despite the limitations of the pandemic and lockdown. Based on the above parameters, Ms. Devikripa was awarded the ‘Best Designer Award’ followed by Ms. Gousia Khan and Ms. Elizabeth Jacob in second and third places.

Coalescence in Architecture Scholarships
SPADE collaborated with NASA to conduct NASA India Zonal Event, its largest online event in Zone 6, titled FARRAGO, and themed ‘Coalescence in Architecture’. The event was hosted online in 2 phases: the workshops was held on 23 and 24 October, and the main zonal event on 30 & 31 October 2021 with overwhelming responses. The Chief Guest, Dr. Christaine M Herr, President, CAADRIA, Professor, School of Design SUSTech, delivered keynote address on “The Future of Cybernetics in Architecture”. Ar. Benjamin Piper, Principal Architect Killa Design, Dubai; and Ar. Niroop Kumar Reddy, Principal Architect NA Architects, Hyderabad presided over the valedictory session as the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour. The event observed newsletter being released; and the Winners and runners of Design competition and On-the-spot technical events acknowledged.
Installation of Solar Water Pump
US INDIA Partnership Free Job Oriented Training on “Installation of Solar Water Pump” was conducted between 28 July and 4 August 2021 under the Grant support of 11,360 $ from University of Nebraska, USA through Alamo Colleges District, USA. The training programme intended to deliver workforce training to the HITS adopted village residents to build skills that would result in their employment and improved economic conditions. Initially, Alamo Colleges District had provided a 60-hour “train-the-trainer” video instruction on “Installation Solar Water Pumping Systems” to the faculty of HITS.
The Office of Student Affairs in collaboration with the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea and Hana Bank organised a global scholarship awards ceremony on 17 December 2021. Mr. Young Seup Kwon, Consul General, Consulate of Republic of Korea, Chennai; and Mr. Dae Ki Hong, Managing Director of KEB Hana Bank, Chennai presided over the event as the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour. Hana Bank awards scholarships to students from the underprivileged sections of the society with sound academic records. For the first time in India, it has chosen a private university –Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science (HITS) to offer its scholarships. Through a tough selection process, 20 students from HITS were selected and awarded $500 each. In a motivational talk on “My IAS Journey” organised by the Office of Student Affairs on 9 September 2021, Mr. Srutanjay Narayan, IAS, Assistant Collector, Thoothukudi, affirmed, “Civil services are the most heart-filling profession where one can prove his talents”. Coming from a traditional family with an eye for culture, customs, traditions combined with creativity, Mr. Srutanjay took Civil Services to enrich the long cherished Indianness. “We need to dig deep into history and use it for our future development. When you start exploring it, marvels are in store for us. After studying Geo Informatics Sciences, I am more fascinated with the development of our country, twining my knowledge on traditions and customs” added Mr. Srutanjay.

The Office of Student Affairs, in association with the Headway Academy, initiated the "Learn from Leaders Lecture Series." The inaugural lecture on "Focus and Fine Tune The Mind" was delivered by Mr. Raja Krishnamoorthy, an inspirational speaker of international repute, leadership coach, OD consultant, film director, actor, and script writer on 19 October 2021. He spoke at length about the challenges faced by current society. Mr. Raja Krishnamoorthy wanted the younger generation to look back at the good traditions of the Indian society, and affirmed that the age-old traditions of one of the oldest civilizations in the world can help us overcome the problems posed by contemporary societies. He advised the students to follow the 3 Ds— Discipline, Devotion, and Determination—to avoid problems at ease.
The Pranam—Hindustan Hospitality Club hosted “Namma Madrasapattinam 2021, a 3-day exhilarating talk show and competition to revel the glorious history and vibrant past of Chennai city. 4 Talk Shows on “Infrastructure”, “Media and Cinema”, “Cuisines”, and “Culture”; and competitions were held as a part of the 382nd Madras Week celebration.

The Hindustan Group of Institutions’ (HGI) Christmas Celebration 2021 was organised at the HITS campus in Padur on 17 December. Mr. P. W. C. Davidar, I.A.S., (Retd), Former Additional Chief Secretary, Govt. of TN, Advisor-TNeGA, presided over the event as the Chief Guest. Various Christmas Carol renditions were given by Hindustan College of Arts & Science; K.C.G. College of Technology, Karapakam; Hindustan International School Guindy; Orient Flights Aviation Academy, Mysore; and HIET, Padappai. Dance performances were given by Hindustan International School, Padur, and Hindustan College, Mysuru. The celebration also observed the "Release of the Malayalam Version of Wheels and Wings Founder’s Autobiography" and the "Release of the HGI Calendar" by the Chief Guest.

To the beats of Shingari Melam, Ponnonam'21 was organised on 25 August 2021. Prominent Playback Singer and National Film Awardee, Ms. Uthara Unnikrishnan, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The Chancellor, Dr. (Mrs.) Elizabeth Verghese presided over the celebrations. The Directors, Dr. Aby Sam and Mr. Ashok Verghese; Deans, HoDs, faculty members, Heads of various units of HGIs, guests from different walks of life, and students enjoyed the celebrations.

The University Day ‘21 of Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science (HITS) held on 22 July 2021, adhering to Covid ‘19 protocols, turned out to be a remarkable success. Mr. Rahul Nadh, I.A.S., Collector of Chengalpattu District presided over the event as the Chief Guest. Mr. Sekaran Letchumanan, Vice President (Operations) of Flextronics, was the Guest of Honour. The celebration included Release of Campus Talk, an annual Newsletter, launching of CODE (Centre for Online & Open Digital Education) Website, planting of saplings and felicitation of HITS Alumni Association President, Er. B. N. Kamal.
The Royal Thai Consulate-General Chennai celebrated the occasion of the National Day of the Kingdom of Thailand, the birthday anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great, and Thailand’s Father’s Day at the ITC Grand Chola on 7 December 2021. The Consul General of Thailand, Mr. Nitirooge Phoneprasert, hosted the evening. Dr. G. Ilavazhagan, Director-International Affairs, and Ms. Sukhee Lee, Advisor, International Affairs, attended the celebrations representing HITS.
