The object of education is to prepare the young to educate themselves throughout their lives.

-Robert M. Hutchins

Education plays a major role in one’s life. Imparting education to the present youth is a challenging task because they are more exposed to the modern technologies through various resources available outside the academic arena. They acquire boundless knowledge outside the classroom. Hence it becomes a herculean effort to captivate the young ones in the class. However this challenge can be successfully faced by providing a congenial environment, modern teaching aids, experienced teaching community and individual attention to students. The prime objective of any educational institution is to mould its students as ideal and successful social citizens. In order to realize this objective, our Founder Chairman, Dr. K.C.G. Verghese established the Hindustan Group of Institutions with a vision, “To Make Every Man a Success and No Man a Failure.” Hindustan University functions on the basis of the vision of our Founder Chairman. The education provided in Hindustan University is for a lifetime. The curricula and syllabi of the University focus on providing an education which will help the students to overcome challenges that they face in their professional and personal life. The Memoranda of Understanding, the University has signed with various prestigious international universities and multinational companies offer the faculty and students an opportunity to interact and gain a vast knowledge in their respective fields of specialization. Hindustan University also encourages its students to participate in various international competitions, thereby providing them a global exposure. During the academic year 2013-14, Hindustan University has taken remarkable strides and progress, aiming at a peak performance in the years to come. I congratulate the editorial team of HCELLENCE ’14 for recording the path tread by Hindustan University during the academic year 2013-14.

I am really happy to note that this academic year was an eventful one and the institution has won several awards and accolades to its credit. Few of the prominent awards received by the institution are the Worldwide Achievers Award 2014, during the India Education Excellences Award Programme 2014 for the outstanding service and contribution to the education sector, National Educational Excellence Award 2014 presented by Associated Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ASSOCHAM) India for the best B-School in South India and Campus Corporate 2013 Award for Hindustan University as the 2nd best institution in India. It is a proud moment for the entire Hindustan Group of Institutions as it celebrates its 45 years of legacy in educational arena soaring forward with the vision of the Founder Chairman, Late Dr. KCG Verghese. This year will be etched in the history of HGI as a glorious one for it witnessed a dual accomplishment; the completion of 45 years of HIET and the inauguration of Hindustan International School at HIET Guindy Campus. It is noteworthy to mention that several conferences and workshops were held both at the national and international levels at Hindustan University and several MoU’s were signed with reputed organisations. An important milestone of the institution of recent times is the fruition of the tripar tite agreement with Cranfield University, UK and MBDA for the joint development and delivery of academic programmes in the defence sector. The Centre of Defence Technology Studies of Hindustan University has also introduced India’s first ever 2 year MBA Defence Technology Program in the Private sector. The commendable feat of students participating in global competitions has been a regular feature at Hindustan University every year. The students have been achieving glory at international levels especially winning NASA competitions consecutively for the past three years, it needs a laudable appreciation. A unique achievement of the staff and students this year is that the Hindustan Mars Rover team contested in the finals of University Rover Challenge-2014 organized by Mars Society, USA at NASA’s Mars Desert Research Centre. As you unfurl the pages of the HCELLENCE ‘14 magazine I’m sure it would provide an excellent reading related to the achievements and happenings of the entire academic year of all the departments in a nutshell. I congratulate the faculty, staff and students of Hindustan University for the successful completion of this academic year. I also congratulate the editorial team for their exemplary work in bringing out this issue.
