Architecture and Interior design proposals, Mumbai Pitch presentations A few other concept designs for architecture (RHS) and interior design options (above). Towards the right is a proposal for a mixed use facility for an area of 40,000 sq.mts. Where I was included to be a help for generating design options, preparing representation matrial and the presentation. Where as the images above are visuals from interior design proposals for apartments of 400-600 sq.mts. Here I was solely responsible for generating 3D models and options for their representation techniques. -For Lewis and Hickey architects, Mumbai

LIG housing Master planning presentation Comprising 35,000 sq.mts of area this plot of land is located to the eastern outskirts of Mumbai, 50kms away. Originally the context was of agricultural fields on the banks of the nearby river. The project is aimed to build up to 38,000 sq.mts of housing for the employees from the nearby Industries. My involvement in this project comprises of preparing WD, elevation and club design development and preparing presentation and related data.

page 6

Master plan design The plan is developed along a curved road to gradually reveal the river. The green areas are then identified alternately on either side of the road. Leading up to the riverfront promenade the road acts as the spine of the project. -For Lewis and Hickey architects, Mumbai

LIG housing Architecture design Here the building height governs the scale and atmosphere of its open space. The elevation is therefore kept simple with a slight play with the balconies. As seen, I was responsible for generating elevation design options, followed by working drawings and simultaneously getting the renders done from the experts. -For Lewis and Hickey architects, Mumbai

Silver apartments Proposal presentation Surrounded by G+1 structures this building will be constructed for 14000 sq.mts to house apartments and retail. Considering the scale of the surrounding areas the 3 courts along the road help in increasing the openness the spaces and allowing a small urban insert along the road. I was involved since the beginning of the project under the architecture director; part of design resolution and development, detailing the courts and the complete responsibility for the 3d model and graphic was handed to me. -For Lewis and Hickey architects, Mumbai

Innovative design proposal

Megh’s House, Bangalore Complete project Located on a 09 x 16 Meter plot in a typical TP scheme planning of Bangalore, the client required a G+3 house with specific requirement for each floor, that must follow the Vastu chart. I was solely responsible for the project, with generating design and its development and presentation under the mentor ship of the architecture director. -For Lewis and Hickey architects, Mumbai

Elysium Club, Rajkot Project architect This club sits on a 85 x 35 Meter plot located exactly in the middle of a housing scheme of 100 bungalows also developed and detail by us earlier. Hence the club was conceived as a pavilion to shelter a mix of activities, accessible from anywhere.

I was included after the design development stage, responsible for coordination (with client, site, consultants), drawing production and detailing of the project. Simultaneously preparing a visual graphic to represent the project for marketing. -For Lewis and Hickey architects, Mumbai

Expansion of a Distillery Initial design presentation Above is an excerpt from a presentation made for a new project; collating the available data to understand the structure and processing of an existing facility.

Second home in a field Project management and design study Further on the RHS and ahead are excerpts from a 4500sq.mt bungalow project located amidst a beautifully maintained field. The house is organized in 6 parts following the geometry of an orchard, lake and a lawn around it. Please refer to the master plan of the adjacent page.

page 16

Responsible for the complete project coordination I was also responsible for visiting site, produce WD, monitoring 3d renders, generating detail designs, study aperture, scale and material and design lighting strategy for the bungalow. The image at the bottom is a Photoshop render on a physical model of the entrance block, to study its atmosphere for different brick colours and bonds. - For M/s Prabhakar B Bhagwat, Ahmedabad

Second home in a field Shuttering design , WD and site visit The shuttering for the living block is impressed by the pattern of a fabric. After presenting some ideas, a particular design was frozen and developed into a WD for sampling. Followed by further development to get the end result as seen in the picture. While on the RHS is a hint of a WDs for the bedroom block with its picture at the bottom. - For M/s Prabhakar B Bhagwat, Ahmedabad

Joshi House Project architect Here is a 300 sq. mt second home, located in a village near Mumbai. The design is a response to the topography, monsoon and the harsh sunlight in such an open (unbuilt) environment This was the first project to give me a professional experience of building at site and preparation of all its necessary drawings and documents - For Rohit Shinkre Architects, Mumbai

Exploring the contemplative qualities of architecture (Thesis) Followed by an inquisitive search and documentation of contemplative places in forests around Mumbai city, here is a proposal for an institutional building located at a busy junction of the city.

page 32

The design of the building is inspired from the experiences of the forest. For example the ground floor is gracefully open to the busy street, exposing itself in darkness; treating the street as a river in a forest and the edge of the built as a grove of trees beyond a clearing.

The circulation areas of the building are explored to contain leisure places between classes, hence a double height corridor (render above) allowed the light to penetrate deeper into the building and to contain seating areas for students.

Similarly, in the middle of the section are two bridges that unexpectedly connect, mutually contradictory spaces with an exciting transition (see section below).

BACKSTAGE ENTRY

Center for performing arts Aim was to design a silent and intimate space for the artists to rehearse their act. The design process hence started with the desire for a space, illustrated in sketches. The plan works around two courtyards, each for the artist and the audience.

Layers Using three layers of three different (individually continuous) materials an object was created, to later fit into a scale to interact with people. Below is a 2 x 1 foot model made from acrylic sheet and sewing thread and to the left is a hand drawn isometric view illustrating the object in its context

Installation - Tree Topia (group work) Continuing the layers project further, this exercise was to develop a 1:1 size installation occupying any part of our college compound. Then, procuring of materials, preparation of modules in the workshop and installing them at place;

page 42

became the most exciting memory from academics. Treetopia means growing from an actual tree. Materials- Ply wood box fixed with wire on the fence and jute Thread; intended to be viewed from ether side.

High rise luxury apartment The brief described a design of an high rise apartment building on a site located at the western coast of south Mumbai. The proposed design offers two categories of apartment. Each apartment being split in two parts; the living area and the bedroom. This split section offered four apartments to open up in a single lobby. A feature typical to low rise community housing. This design is also taken further to prepare a set of working drawings in the next academic year.

Landscape design of a university campus The brief for the project constrained a specific square plan for every building, made out of stone masonry at the ground and glass facade above. We students had to work only in the areas outside the building. For me the planning developed around the lakes that were placed according to the surface hydrology of the hill

page 46

and the design further was heavily influenced by a recent family trip to the north east of India. For example the painting on the right illustrates the gradually rising path leading to the administration building.

Low density housing Studied in the earlier project; the design for this housing scheme is driven by the surface hydrology map of the hill . Located on a 5 acre plot at the edge of the hill and the river. The top left and right corner of the site are the concentration points of the surface water. Taking those points three streams

page 48

were carved, around which a master plan for a housing scheme is developed. Since this project was a first settlement in its area, the design is intended to created an inward looking master plan with a varying atmosphere of its public places.
