SCHOLARSHIP ESSAY TOPICS

HSC is pleased to offer several merit and needs based scholarships and bursaries annually.

HSC is proud of our scholarship recipients and the relationship with our donors. We report regularly to our donors and ask that our recipients collaborate in the effort. Students will receive dates for reporting needs, according to their scholarship, and the Advancement Office will work with you directly for any letters, images or updates. We look forward to building this relationship!

You will receive specific reporting dates based on your scholarship, and our Advancement Office will work closely with you to gather any letters, images, or updates. SCHOOL LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP

Complete a Leadership Student Profile Form at hsc.on.ca/studentprofile.

Complete ONE of the following in a maximum 500 word letter. For Newly Enrolled and Current HSC enrolled Students entering grade 9 in year 2025–2026

1. The Role of a School Leader in Shaping a Positive School Culture

Explore how effective school leaders influence the social and academic environment of the school and why a positive school culture is important for students' success.

2. The Importance of Student Voice in School Leadership

Discuss how involving students in leadership decisions can improve school policies and foster a sense of community and responsibility.

3. Leadership Skills for Students: How Can Sr. School Students Be Effective Leaders in School?

Examine the leadership qualities students can develop in the Sr. School and how these skills can be applied to make a positive impact within HSC.

4. The Challenges of School Leadership: Balancing Academic Excellence and Emotional Well-Being

Analyze the challenges school student leaders face in ensuring academic and co-curricular success while managing their well-being.

5. How Technology is Changing School Leadership and Student Engagement

Investigate how school leaders are adapting to the digital age, using technology to enhance communication, learning, and leadership practices to engage students more effectively.

MANBERT/SERNIUK FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP

» Grade in 2025–2026 – 5 to 8

» Number of Awards – One

» Value – $1,000 one-time

» Eligibility – This award recognizes and celebrates academic, athletic and leadership potential. Open to: newly enrolled 2025-2026 students only.

» Requirements – Scholarship Form Submission and maximum 500 word essay submission

» Important Dates –January 8, 2025: Registration opens, January 23, 2025: Registration closes and essay is due

GRADES5–8

ADADEMIC COMPETITION – MATH/ENGLISH EXAMS

» Grade in 2025–2026 – 7 or 9

» Number of Awards – Multiple

» Value – up to $5,000 one-time

» Eligibility – Strong academic standing entering Grades 7 and 9. Open to: re-enrolled and newly enrolled students.

» Requirements – Scholarship Form Submission and attend Virtual Scholarship Exams

» Important Dates –

January 8, 2025: Registration opens, January 23, 2025: Registration closes, February 8, 2025: (Test Seminar), February 22, 2025: (Competition Virtual Exam)

GRADES7OR9

BEAR FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP

» Grade in 2025–2026 – 9 to 11

» Number of Awards – One

» Value – $1,000 one-time

» Eligibility – Student must embody the College’s Mission, Vision and Ideals through outstanding academic, athletic and leadership potential and ability. Open to: newly enrolled 2025-2026 students only.

» Requirements – Scholarship Form Submission and maximum 500 word essay submission

» Important Dates –January 8, 2025: Registration opens, January 23, 2025: Registration closes and essay is due

GRADES9–11

ALUMNI ASSOCIATION LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP

» Grade in 2025–2026 – 9

» Number of Awards – Max of four

» Value – $5,000 one-time

» Eligibility – Excellence in academics and leadership. Open to: re-enrolled and newly enrolled students.

» Requirements – Scholarship Form Submission with completion of HSC Student Leadership Profile (hsc.on.ca/studentprofile) and maximum 500 word essay with topic provided by scholarship committee. Finalists will complete a virtual committee interview.

» Important Dates –

January 8, 2025: Registration opens, January 23, 2025: Registration closes, HSC Student Leadership Profile and essay due February 8, 2025: Finalists Virtual Interviews

GRADE9

ARTS SCHOLARSHIPS

» Grade in 2025–2026 – 5 to 11

» Number of Awards – Two (one for Middle and one for Senior students)

» Value – $5,000 one-time

» Eligibility – Excellence in the arts Music/ Drama/ Dance or Art. Strong academic standing. Open to: re-enrolled and newly enrolled students

» Requirements – Scholarship Form Submission. Submit digital audition/portfolio. Finalists will interview virtually.

» Important Dates –

January 8, 2025: Registration opens, January 23, 2025: Registration closes, submissions due, February 8, 2025: Finalists Virtual Interviews

GRADES5–11

QIN/YANG FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP

» Grade in 2025–2026 – 5 to 9

» Number of Awards – One

» Value – $1,000 one-time

» Eligibility – Supporting students from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds with an inclusive worldview and outstanding academic and leadership potential. Open to: newly enrolled students only.

» Requirements – Scholarship Form Submission. Maximum 500 word essay submission.

» Important Dates –

January 8, 2025: Registration opens, January 23, 2025: Registration closes and essay is due

GRADES5–9

SCHOLARSHIP SUBMISSIONS

Make sure all submissions:

» Are labelled with Student First and last name and name of scholarship

» All submissions should be a PDF, video links may be submitted for Arts Portfolio

» Google Docs are shared to the public and view only in the settings

» Are on time. No submissions will be accepted after 4:00 p.m on Thursday, January 23, 2025.
