Good times for good cause at Hill Country Rally

ure - they pull together one of the largest and best collections of classic cars, motorcycles, hot rods and tractors in the state. Absolutely, they cook up some of the most mouth-watering tasty barbecue chicken, pork, brisket and beans on the planet. And who has come up with a better way to spend a summer day than pitching washers under giant oak trees, splashing in a clear-running creek and playing outdoor games with kids? Top that off with live music, dancing under the stars, eating delicious food, scouting bargains at an amazing silent auction, and camping with a great group of people - and you’d think they’re doing all this for the benefit of the happy campers, right? But be aware that behind all the fun and festivity of the Hill Country Rally for

Kids lies an ulterior motive! This expert band of organizers has totally dedicated itself to raising large sums of money to help kids-in-need in Hays County throughout the year. This year’s Rally, August 14-16, is a (very fun!) means to that end. And fun is what they deliver. Amidst the giant oaks and meandering creek at Camp Ben McCulloch in Driftwood (across from the Salt Lick), rally-goers can camp out and enjoy the Rally, start-to-finish. Or just come for the day. It all begins Friday evening, when the music starts up under the Tabernacle with the Jim Halfpenny Band and the barbecue trailers begin rolling in. Vendors set out their displays of handmade and unusual wares, and food carts fill the air with tempting smells. Later that evening, two-stepping gets underway with music by the Carport Casanovas.
