Kindergarten @ The Forest

Kindergarten @ The Forest

Our Kindergarten @ The Forest learning environment is located on Roman Road in Bearsden. Children in Kindergarten enjoy spending a period of their week at the Kindergarten Forest, playing and learning in a natural environment.

Whilst being a fully outdoors setting, we have a dedicated, fully resourced indoor space available for play should the weather be more inclement and in colder Winter months.

Our staff are Forest Kindergarten trained, using Forest Kindergarten principles to support the exploration of the Early Level Curriculum using natural resources found in the woodland. We support child-centred learning through play in a real world context, giving them the freedom to explore the natural world around them and learn how to care for the environment.

The Forest Kindergarten approach originated in Scandinavia and involved children journeying on foot to a local woodland area to learn and play outdoors on a regular basis.

Forest Kindergarten began in Scotland around 2003 as a project initiative by the Forestry Commission.

* Our highly trained team of Early Years specialists consists of Teachers, Early Years Practitioners and Early Years Play Workers.

* We provide high quality Early Learning and Childcare from 7.45am until 6.00pm, with flexible sessions available for every family.

* Every child develops their own personal Learning Journal which captures valuable and treasured moments of play and learning during their time at Kindergarten.

* Our families have secure access to our online learning portal which is updated daily with children’s work, videos and pictures.

Applying and Funding

We provide high quality Early Learning and Childcare that meets the needs and demands of both children and families, offering flexible, affordable and accessible provision where possible.

The Kindergarten is in partnership with East Dunbartonshire Council who offer funded hours for families.

Kindergarten is open during school term time and operates each day from 7.45am until 6.00pm. We operate different sessions throughout the day, and work with families to accommodate their child’s requirements.

In 2019 Care Inspectorate graded our ‘Quality of Care and Support’ as Excellent while our ‘Quality of Management and Leadership’ was graded Very Good. The full report can be found on our school website.
