House Reports Airlie

Aystree

This year we have had one focus for our House: participation. In all of the events we’ve taken part in there has been a massive river of enthusiasm flowing through our massive turnouts.

After last year’s victory, we are more determined than ever to retain the House Shield!

In the future, we aim to take this further by improving our organisation in order to channel this energy and get top positions in the upcoming House Events. It’s through the fire within our ‘Airlie Dragons’ this year that we hope to win the House Shield and, by reflecting on how the year has gone so far, we will be well equipped when we next come face to face with the other Houses. This year in the House Choir Competition Airlie put in a strong effort and the support was clear as we achieved the highest turnout of any of the Houses. The song we performed was Take a Chance On Me by ABBA, and we sure did take a chance! Despite the result, the heart was certainly present at the Airlie performance and shows that we have the eager support of the Airliens ready to compete this year. As a House, we came up with the idea that the dragon was the ideal mascot because this represents the fire that each Airlie individual has inside them, something that is ignited in our House activities. Our notice board was created by Catriona and Rachel, and depicts a dragon breathing Airlie in fire. This year at the Swimming Gala Heats, it was great to see so many Airliens taking part. We had pupils of all ages and abilities swimming, and even a guest appearance from the ‘house dragon’! As you have seen, we have a strong ethos of bravery. We, as leaders of the House, feel delighted every time we see someone discovering their courage for the first time. The shy Form 1s giving a stunning choral performance, the people who never thought they could swim putting in the work at the swimming gala, and the team behind the noticeboard overcoming all sorts of creative challenges. Airlie stands for bravery and in the year to come we hope to see members of our House cherishing the moment of achieving something they thought was impossible! A promising start to the year has found us in the lead overall, coming third in the House Choir Competition after performing a rendition of Some Nights by Fun, which was a success, after all Lindores is hard to beat musically! Another success in the House Board competition was a recreation of Vincent Van Gogh’s Starry Night with an Aystree twist created by Rhea Wedderburn and Katie Bonnyman. The new Form 1s have settled into school life after their residential trip that consisted of a range of House Events that they managed to win, blowing the other Houses out of the water. This shows that Aystree possesses all of the Core Values across the Senior School, but we also have an extra two qualities: competitiveness and the ability to win. On the sports fields, the Form 1 girls gave a strong performance at House Hockey, showcasing what it means to be in Aystree. The Form 2 & 3 girls excelled at their recent House Hockey and after not dropping a single match, they secured the righteous victory. We hope that Aystree will give a strong performance at the forthcoming Swimming Gala Finals after the very promising heats. This year’s theme is ‘Aystree All Stars’, as we believe that all Aystrians possess different talents and therefore are all stars in their own ways. Our ‘all-rounder’ nature shows that we can all perform. We believe that we, the ‘All Stars’, will be able to lead Aystree to another successful year supported by the Aystree cheerleaders that will be making an appearance at upcoming House Events. This year we are hoping to see many of our ‘Aystree All Stars’ participate in House Events, giving their all to ensure the best chance of bringing the House Shield home for the second consecutive year!
